People GT 300i / Re: Better understanding oil
« on: July 23, 2014, 12:16:15 PM »
thank you for your answer! if changing oil every 1000 miles, how often do you change the oil filter? how does the oil coming out look like after 1000 miles? should be pretty clean I guess...

bit back on mixing oils subject. maybe i'm pushing it but is it wrong to mix 10w40 with 5w30 for example? I don't intend to do that but would like to learn more about this.
also why some people say it's better to use diesel engine oils in our scooters? what's the point?

I've read somewhere online that it is possible to reach the plug somehow without ripping too many things apart, but I lost the link and I can't find it now...

the question may be stupid but here it comes:
is it a bad idea to mix various oils? for example: I've got almost a liter of 10w40 semi synthetic left from previous oil change. am I safe mixing this with other brand 10w40 if I can't buy more of the same? or should I use only same manufacturer brand type?

I recently discovered LEA7 written on the exhaust muffler under the plastic cover.

I agree with you zombie. Loads of info here!
I was looking for the exhaust gasket and found something, although their part nr. does not align with what I have in the DT300i parts manual. (attached p.87-88)
So before I buy something wrong, I ask here is this the one I'm looking for? (for the DT300i)
says: Gasket Size: O.D 41.5 X ID 35 X Depth 4mm

It was yesterday but still, I took the muffler off and repainted it with high temp paint.
I also discovered where you can find out what type of variator you have without taking too many things apart. LEA7 is written/embossed on the exhaust/muffler under the plastic cover.

Dear zombie, your idea is very good and I wish you can arrange a discount for the forum members. However I'm not ready to spend so much at present. I only need a gasket and maybe at a later time an air filter as well. But if I can help in any other way for this plan of yours to happen please let me know!

I took off the muffler yesterday. Cleaned it up. Removed rust by using wire brush, rust remover gel, and sandpaper 320grit before painting. it took me about 3.5-4 hours of work from start to finish and had cost me about US$17.
Once I have the gasket I'll remove and paint the pipe as well.

Thank you zombie. Good point. And if I break the one I have on the bike currently, I won't be able to ride it for days/weeks at worst. I will not take off the pipe then. Not for now at least. but I will paint the muffler at least, since I borrowed all the tools necessary for the operation.
Any thoughts where to buy gaskets from?

Thank you for your reply Zombie!
So you say I should not worry about the rear shocks too much?

on the other rust issues:
I'm ready to paint the muffler and exhaust pipe, but have 2 questions:
1. where do I disconnect the o2 sensor?
2. is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to replace the exhaust gasket? Have no replacement gasket at hand...

You're just too considerate. Have I asked if you have a single sister? Or maybe you can spot some random gal that looks like she could like zombies, a house full of killer dogs, and a few braver than William Wallace kittens? Tough challenge eh!

Quick story... My new GF told me her aunts husband (in law uncle) has always had a thing for her. He pays alot of bills, helps around the house ect...
She doesn't want him to know she is dating me for fear of a Jealousy/end of gravy train kind of thing.

Yep! My thoughts exactly.

Would she fit the bill? (look at the name!) ;)

Thanks for the video Adept! Very useful.
It took me 2 days to read through this thread. Just couldn't do it in one run.
Loads of info. But I still don't know what kind of variator I've got nor how to find it out without taking the bike apart. It's a 2011 DT300i but I dont't know which month it was made. Is there a place I can find this info? On the bike perhaps?

where did you place the fuse on your scoot, I placed mine about 1 " from the plug in, a dash mount fuse,it sticks out 3/4 "  so it is not in the way,.that is so I can change the fuse for what ever I want to plug in,.

It is easier to take a photo then to try explaining where I've placed mine. :) I'll take a photo and upload it here later today so you can see.
EDIT: I forgot to take a photo, but I realised one of the previous ones partly shows where the fuse holder is.
Here's a "close up" version of that photo. I circled the cap of the fuse holder...

Had to change the 12V outlet fuse, was blown since I bought the bike. Pretty stupid one has to take off the whole front mask of the bike to reach to it. So in order to save myself another unnecessary labour, I added a through hole fuse holder that I can reach through the left side pocket if the fuse gets blown again. I had to drill the plastic to mount the new fuse holder, and dispose of the original in-line fuse holder. But the end result is very nice and practical. I installed a 1A fuse as a beginning which seems sufficient for my phone.
I also got a 1m long flat micro USB cable and I can now power my phone (use it as a GPS) with the lid closed. The flat cable can come out at the bottom of the pocket on the right side of the hinge with almost no pressure on neither the cable nor the lid.

EDIT: Added some photos:
