Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Re: Kymco CBS vs ABS
« on: July 23, 2020, 09:13:12 AM »
I wonder how much it raises the price on a inexpensive scooter?  Definitely better from the safety stand point.

I was working in the scooter industry when Euro 4 came in. It was between 25% and 30% depending on manufacturer. It was the same time fuel injection became a necessity, so it's impossible to uncouple from that cost.

I found it reassuring at the time that all FI was provided by Bosch and Denso - the Chinese/Taiwanese have shown no interest in developing their own systems.

I can't remember what the situation was with ABS, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't another bought-in good quality system.

ABS all the way. I found CBS quite hard to get on with!

My hatred for anything made by Avon burns deep.

When I was couriering I swore by Anlas Wintergrip 2s, but whether they make them in your size, and whether their performance (I liked them, but it was a smaller bike and I was much less experienced at the time) is as good for a larger bike... but certainly worth a peek.

I did use Heidenau K66s for a year as well but I seem to remember them wearing very quickly (not a problem in itself) and the ride deteriorating significantly when they had worn.

Changing tyres. I've been having something of a refresh of rubber on my three steeds over the last few weeks; one on original rubber from 1981, one set that's cracked and a pair on my C70. I have a horrible feeling the front tyre on the C70 was original - despite the bike being on and off the road quite a bit over the last 38 years. Anyway, brand new rubber for all!

The original Dragster was something of a beast in it's 180cc 2T guise.

I think Italijet have gone bust at least twice since then...

I've seen the 250 Magna imported here but I'm not sure where it came from!

This would have been before Honda were in bed with Wuyang, which came in the early 10s

The original belt in my Like 200 was replaced at 19,000 miles. I fitted an aftermarket replacement and that went PING 800 miles later. I put the original belt back in and it was still going strong when I sold it  :-X

I do agree that it's a matter of when rather than if. I think I will just about see the end of petrol in my lifetime and the general adoption of electric vehicles but it'll probably be quite a close thing!

Entirely different to the Scarabeo I was thinking of!

Sounds electrical to me - probably just a loose terminal block somewhere.

I'd take it right back to the dealership - they shouldn't have let it out like that

My first and only was the Like200 I had for about a year.

I sold my Address 110 (in hinesight, a mistake) when I moved up Norf, but missed riding so picked up a Like200 because it was cheap. I kept it for about 12 months and toured Ireland and Scotland on it before my back started to play up and so I had a riding break for a while after that.

Late 90's early 00's? I've seen loads of them in Italy but they don't appear to have been a big seller elsewhere.

What do you want to know? I think a technically-minded friend had one so I can ask him

I know the feeling. Spent hours trying to get my Honda Melody running last week, cleaning the carb and cursing the vacuum fuel tap.

When, in reality, there was no fuel in the tank and the spark plug cap wasn't on properly.

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I don't mind night so much, but I really don't like dusk.

For sure - nobody blinded by the sun, everyone's a bit safer :)

Ah, but is it on the road yet?
 ;)

It's MOTed but the front tyre is rubbing, going to replace it on Payday!
