General Discussion / Re: 70 kit

Um, well if you like to wrench go for it.  Usually adding a bigger kit on will require extra maintenance, tinkering, and thus reliability goes a bit.  All up to you really.  Otherwise just save up for a bigger scoot.

General Discussion / Riding a light big-wheel scooter
« on: August 07, 2018, 01:28:54 AM »
Yeah I would’ve probably got one of these instead of the Like 150i.  (Provided it was the same engine, which I think it is).  Now that my first 500 miles is up and can go more on the throttle.  I kind of gave it the beans as they say (not all the way) from a stoplight, wasn’t paying attention to the speedo until I saw a cop a block or 2 ahead and holy crap, speedo said 50 mph, tapped the brakes and luckily for me the cop didn’t budge. Man this things got some power and it’s smooth.  Really love how this handles, even on these 12” (will wait til 1000 miles to hop on a little 55 mph road). But to have the option of the big wheeled people would’ve been great.  Oh and of course when I go to pick up oil for my first service from the dealer....they had a Liberty on the floor.  Said what happened to the next shipment being sold out?  Well someone backed out.....oh well wasn’t an S model (not that that’s a big deal). But very happy with the Like 150i. But I also saw they just started carrying Benelli, and they had one of their Cafereno 150’s, which is a big wheeled, liquid cooled scooter, though I think it’s carbureted, but only $2300 or something (supposedly designed and engineered in Italy, but built in China, but I like the liquid cooled part, and not a bad looking bike)

General Discussion / Re: Kendas vs City Grips in the wet w/ABS?
« on: August 05, 2018, 05:54:15 PM »
It could be that I'm not sensitive to subtle differences in handling, but my experience in losing traction in the rain is that it happens suddenly and dramatically. The point of the better tires is to push where that happens further down.

I guess I forgot to mention I don’t really ever ride in the rain and considering I have ABS as well now, I will wear these tires out Instead of replacing them right away.  I actually like these cst’s a lot more then the Kenda’s I had on my last scoot, although it’s kind of a hard comparison since this new scooter handles a lot better and different beast altogether.

I was supposed to do my 600mi Service this past week, but I got an email from the parts folks at my dealer. Turns out that my oil filter is still in Taiwan. Apparently, no one in the entire US has one of these in stock, and the bike is so new that there are none available anywhere else except at the "home office" so to speak.

So, I'll be waiting until my filter comes in.
Geese.  That sucks.  You’d think with a common maintenance part that is necessary they would’ve already had them here

I will say for a tire I never have heard of, the cst tires that come on the Like 150i have impressed me thus far. Just took it out in the rain to see what she can do and I never lost confidence.  Don’t get me wrong I won’t be replacing them with another set.  But I am in no hurry to throw the Michelin’s on right away.

LIKE 200i / First service done!
« on: August 03, 2018, 10:26:39 PM »
Mj

Alright so finally hit 500 miles and since I get off work early decide to do my first oil/gear oil change on the Like 150i today.  So now I can finally take it up to 3/4 throttle for next 500 miles. Almost took the full quart of oil.  Had to tighten my exhaust bolts, only thing that was loose.  Couple pics of the dash and my girlfriends Vespa and my Like.  Still loving this thing!  .  Now to wash the odd annoying stench of hypoid gear oil off my hand......

General Discussion / Like 150i?
« on: August 03, 2018, 08:10:28 PM »
That hasn't been my experience.  My first time riding a scooter was a rental Yamaha Riva 125 in Hawaii.  The Riva is even smaller and lighter than the Like 150 (209 Lbs and 49" wheelbase) and had tiny 10"  wheels.  I accidentally got on the highway with my wife on the back so I pinned the throttle and kept up with traffic at an indicated 65 MPH until the next exit.  No drama, it was perfectly stable.

My Super 8 is about the same size and weight as the Like and it's perfectly smooth and stable at top speed and I have done short blasts on the intestate with it.  If it had a few more HP and would go another 10 MPH I wouldn't hesitate to do that.

My Smax, which was a little bigger and heavier was perfectly happy running 70+ on the interstate.

Light weight and short wheelbase do not make a bike unstable.  My super 8 is much smaller and lighter than my Majesty but is more stable in windy conditions.

The owner of Cleveland Moto claimed he saw 71 MPH on a Like 150i on the interstate.  He claimed that GPS showed the Speedo to be dead on accurate.  That's the only report I have seen so far.  Someone on ADV claimed his speedo read a little high but since the scooter is new he hasn't run it up to top speed yet.

I am not buying a small scooter to ride on the interstate but it's nice to have the ability to do it once in a while for a short distance.

Hmmm.  71 mph he says....guess I will have to find out in 500 more miles.  Gonna have to verify speedo accuracy tonight.  My experience has been different, any scooter with 10 inchers that I have ridden has been pretty sketchy at 50+ mph (Lance Havana 125 ,12” front 10” rear, and a Buddy 125). But anything I’ve ridden with 12” (Vespa Sprint and now my 150i) has been pretty stable.   Granted the Lance and Buddy were topped out at that speed while the Vespa had some throttle room and assuming the same for my 150i.  But still can’t accelerate out of trouble so it’s no dice

Have seen videos of people taking their LIKE200i onto the highway - full throttle at @63mph.
These lightweight, small wheeled, short wheelbase scooters are at the outer limits of their stability at 65mph.
I do hope salesmen are not promoting these second generation LIKE's as being "highway capable", as some did when selling the LIKE200i's to new riders.
To ride at 60+ one needs more weight and more wheelbase - regardless of what can ne squeezed from the engine's top speed.
Stig

Usually only takes one their first time out on the free way riding a small displacement scooter.  That first bump you hit at 60 mph, then the scramble to get off on the next exit....

The service intervals for this are similar to that of my 2009 Super 8 150.  Changing the oil every 1200 miles is no big deal since it's so easy to do with no oil filter to change.  If the valves are as easy to do as the Super 8 it's only about a one hour job and they rarely need adjusting.  I went to 5k Miles then 7.5K miles between checks on mine with no issues.  Over 31K on my Super 8.  I considering the Like 150i to replace it.  I really like it in white.

Anyone checked the top speed of theirs yet?  How about MPG's?
Still breaking mine in (at 450 miles). It’s quick though and I have only been half throttle, but have only got it up to 40 mph, but really do feel like i should be able to get this thing up to 65 mph.  It’s got some balls.  And of course can’t really comment on mpg’s yet.  Love this four valve engine. I have it in White.  I really wanted the grey at first, but they only had a white and a blue one in stock and am
Now glad I went with the white.  Haven’t seen a grey in person yet, but looking at picks now, think the white looks better.  Blue looks good too.  Struggled for a minute trying to pick at the dealer but figured go with the brighter color for safety.

So picked up the Like 150i a couple weeks ago. I have not put as many miles on it as I would have liked, it has been raining here just about everyday, since I picked it up.

I got the metallic Blue. I think it looks great! I'm 5'7" and It fits me well. It's seat is a little higher than my old Chinese scoot. I am still able to put both feet down without a problem. The seat is also way more comfortable. There is an audible blinker alarm. Its not too loud ,but you can hear it  up to about 40 mph, which it can prevent you from looking like an idiot with your turn signal on driving down the road. I have ridden a Kymco Agility 50 and the turn signal alarm was loud and annoying.

The head light is bright. There are a couple of roads near my house without street lights, that when I used to drive them on my old scoot, I would have to turn my high beams on and I still couldn't see well. Not a problem the the Like, just using the running lights.  With the brights I saw everything.

Its under seat storage is pretty large. Larger than my old scoot. It does NOT fit my full face medium helmet, but I am able to keep some tools, rain gear, grocery bags with room to spare. The glove box has a USB port. The glove box shape is awkward. I can fit my cell phone in it, but its kind of like playing Tetris to get it to clpse. It does not come with a rear rack for a top case, just a grab bar. I looked everywhere to purchase one. I ended up having to use Amazon.fr.(French Amazon.)  I found one (Part #gv-sr6109- same as in the US) for a good price (about $80), but its getting held up in customs. I am hoping to have it soon.

As for the ride. It accelerates well. I'm still breaking it in, but it can get up to 50 mph without even realizing it. I haven't pushed it too hard, but I got it up to 65 mph once or twice for short distances. It still had some throttle left. It does idle pretty hard when stopped at a light and there is also a little bit of a rattle coming from directly under the seat , but I am assuming that it just needs to be broken in. I will investigate the rattle soon. Brakes work great, even in the rain. Tires feel secure on wet winding roads.

The speedometer is analog, but everything else is digital. It has 6 bar fuel gauge. It has your normal "Trip 1", "Trip 2", but it also has "Oil Trip", "Belt Trip" and of course the regular odometer. It has a clock, a temp gauge (outside temp, not engine temp.) and also a battery volt meter.

Overall I love it. I'm looking forward to when I can open her up, after she is all broken in.

I tried to attach some photos, but its not working.

I noticed that rattle under my seat too.  At first it wasn’t there but now it is.  Haven’t found it yet.  About to do the first oil change (I am at 450 miles) so hopefully I can figure it out then.  Mine idles really well at a stop.  But I do notice a back fire on deceleration coming to a stop.  So update:  did my first service, and investigated under the seat...got excited when I realized the exhaust bolts were loose (all I could find) made the overall rattles a little quiter but under seat vibrations still there

I also have the Like 150i and love it.  Highly recommend.  The underseat storage is so big, I won’t have a need for a top case personally.

Did you accidentally hit the kill switch?  I know it sounds stupid but I have done it and will again

No it’s legitimate even says so on Kymcos site.  Though not sure if it’s actually $200 or if that’s just what they are allowed to charge.  But, have had to cough it up everytime.

LIKE 200i / Rear shock adjustment wrench
« on: August 02, 2018, 12:28:17 AM »

Well since Kymco is a little cheap and doesn’t include a shock adjustment spanner/wrench.
I decided to swipe one of these from work (we make them for Harley). And sweet it works!

Do you know how they jumped it?  If they jumped it with a running car/truck might of cause something in wiring harness or maybe ecu to fry.
