No, not yet.  I don't know what an air intake is or where to find it.  The shop manual refers to an intake manifold.  Is this it?

Hmm so after your comments seemed reasonable, I looked up wheel weights and I think those were supposed to be there.  Somehow I missed them even though I've cleaned the tires 10+ times.  Perhaps my mind is growing foggy in its old age?  Now I'll have to retrieve them from the trash or order new ones.  Stupid hurts!

So my scooter got vandalized, in quite a strange way.  Some time in the past week, somebody stuck two weights on the inside of my wheels.  One of them said 10 grams and the other said 30 grams, and they were little weights that had adhesive on one side.  When I saw the first one, I thought maybe I ran over it on the highway or something; when I saw the other one, I knew someone had played a joke on me, or something.  Strange, yeah?  I clean the bike every couple weeks, never seen those on there before, and no one's worked on the bike in months.  Hehe

So apparently the problem is not completely solved.  I think turning up the idle screw kinda masked it, but didn't solve the underlying problem, because today it felt like it almost stalled as I was pulling down the block from my house.  Any ideas?  Should I clean the carb????

Well obviously I know what it refers to, since I used it correctly in a sentence.  Let me rephrase the question: what is the linguistic derivation of "met-in"?  Any idears?

So I turned the idle screw about 180 degrees.  It's running like a charm.  I didn't predict how easy it would be since I've never worked on a carburetor before.  Also, I hadn't yet noticed the easy access panel, and was thinking I would need to take out the whole "met-in" (what does that mean?) bucket.  I guess they make our carbs easily accessible, since we're always working on them huh?

Thanks for the help people, I hope this is the last we've heard of this problem...

Thanks for the quick responses guys.
I just replaced the air filter a few weeks ago.  I'll start by adjusting the idle screw, since I think that's within my meager capabilities, and let you know how it goes.

So my P S 250 has about 5,000 miles on it, and I've just run into my first problem.  I've noticed for a while that when the bike is warming up, it seems like it has been revving a little low.  Two weeks ago, it actually stalled while it was warming up, after running for about 8 seconds.  In the past week, the problem has gotten worse, and it now sounds like it's going to stall for about a minute when you start it after it's been cold, unless you give it a little gas.  Two nights ago, the bike was cold and I had just pulled away down the block and came to a stop sign; when I stopped at the stop sign I actually stalled.

So, I think it's idling too low and I was planning on adjusting the idle screw on the carburetor a little bit.  This is the first time I've worked on my bike besides basic maintenance, so I wanted to see what you guys thought first.

I don't know if this is related to my first problem, but there's one other strange thing I've always noticed with my bike.  When I ride it for a while, and I stop to go into the store or have a meal or something, and it cools down a bit, and then I go back out and start it up again, the rear wheel sometimes spins when it's still on the center stand and I haven't given it any gas.  Sometimes, it gets going quite fast, and I have to put on the rear brake before I take it off the center stand.  If I let it sit on the center stand long enough, and the let the choke go down, it stops.  I never worried about this too much before.  Should I?  Anyone else experience this?  Thanks!!!

People s200 / Re: Anyone have an aftermarket windscreen

I ordered the $60 one from Columbia for my People S 250.
http://www.kymcoaccessories.com/swind.htm

It is made by Puig and it's called a Puig Street Screen.  The service from Columbia was great, but the screen was disappointing.  Installation took me about 2.5 hours (though a mechanically adept person could probably do it in an hour).  It uses the original mounting equipment, but you have to cut off some tabs and sand down parts of the new windscreen, since it's primarily designed for the smaller People scooters.

I found that the windscreen actually increased noise, because it focused the wind right at about ear level, whereas the stock screen let it dissipate around chest level.  With the new one, if I slumped over or rode with poor posture, I did get reduced wind noise, but that leads to lower back soreness.  I'm 5'11" and I think if I were 4 inches shorter then the Puig windscreen would be good.  Another problem is the screen rattles around slightly and makes a squeking noise, which is hardly noticeable at first but gets really annoying after a while.  I decided to switch back to the stock one.  I can't really return it since I've already sanded it down, so I'm stuck with a $60 hunk of plastic.  If anyone wants it, I'd be glad to give it away, just pay for postage.

The manual says to change the fuel filter screen at 7,000 km, but it doesn't give any information about what the fuel filter screen is or how to change it.  Does anyone know where I can find the part (in USA)?  How do you change it??

Also, is it really necessary to change the air cleaner every 4,000 km?

Thanks!

People 250 / Re: How to disassemble front Tupperware on P250S
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:33:54 AM »
I replaced some of the tupperware along the side after an accident.  It was fairly easy--the main securing mechanism was several plastic bits, kinda like snaps.  They were fairly easy to remove.  But I first had to remove 2 screws.  I don't know if the front is similar.

BTW, I believe the coolant is filled by taking off that screw-on panel next to your right ankle.

I distinguish highway riding from street riding.  On the highway you don't hear anything anyways, and there's a relatively small number of variables to pay attention to.  To keep my mind active during long stretches on the highway, I enjoy listening to music.  Also, the right type of headphones can help block out ambient wind noise.  If I'm on the highway and not listening to music, then I use earplugs.
Street riding requires more attention (there's more variables to track), is entertaining enough on its own, and you actually can hear things going on around you, so I don't listen to music.  I waver on whether or not to use plugs on surface roads.

People 250 / Maintenance questions
« on: April 25, 2010, 10:09:38 PM »
Hello,
I've got a People S 250 and I'm beginning to do my own maintenance.  I've got two questions:

1. Is there an oil filter on the S 250 that needs to be changed?  I know about the oil filter screen, which needs cleaning, but most bikes seem to also have an oil filter you have to change regularly, and I can't find any information about an oil filter in my manual.

2. The console is blinking "Service".  I believe it's tied to the speedometer, and activates at regular intervals to indicate regular maintenance.  How do I reset it to stop it from blinking "Service"?

Thanks!!!

Sorry man, it was a liquidation sale and the dealer no longer exists.  That's why the price was so low.
