Agility 50 / Re: ok just want to know.
« on: June 21, 2011, 11:10:02 PM »
I guess it's not so James Bond 'cause it looks simple to do :-)  Personally, I don't understand all that's done.
My friend have a certain level of knowledge. he is electric engineer.
He stripped oem cdi and by-passed some contacts inside with a small, programable, 12 v current restrictor.
Than connected restrictor to front brake contact.Of course, I needed to remove front mask with head light and front handlebar cover. Every front brake click cheme(current shock scheme) is pre-set in restrictor, and every scheme activates one of four possible current/rpm restrictions.

Than, cdi and restrictor are wraped up togeter with duct tape, and I managed to pack it up where cdi should be.
Doesn't look neat but it works :-)

Sorry for off topic but I felt I should share this with you guys!

But, concerning police radar and technical control speed rollers, I found and tested sucessful solution :-)

A friend of mine programed and made me adjustable cdi of oem kymco unit that costed me 30 eur.
Tested it and it works :-)

Now I have 4 options/levels of rpm's
5000 rpm max,6500, 8500 and no rev limiter
So, whatever modifications you do(comletely de-restricted, big bore, racing variator, upgraded carb),
cdi could be adjusted not to make scooter go faster than 45-50 km/h
And it's operated by front brake lever clicking scheme !

Wow man. It seems so complicated there.
I got my A drivers licence very easy compared to NL standards and I'm in non EU country.
It took 20 days in total from signing in for A in driving school to category written in drivers licence.
My goverment in serbia even considering driving 125 cc up to 11 kw with B licence.

In France and Italy I drove 125 scooters without problem on B + 2 years of experience/owning the licence.

Than I guess 70 cc kit and other mods. are good choice in the netherlands.

But, in my country, if police catch me going 50+ on radar, they take off my plates and I need to go to a judge :-(
Although, in some cases it could be tolerated if I'm wearing homologated helmet and have all papers and reg. sticker in order.
And law is changed so I don't need to use bicycle lanes and I can drive passenger on the back.

More power will always make your engine wear faster of course, but the kind of traffic in the area where I live and work means that driving a 50cc 4T is no option for me (it is in fact dangerous over here, I've tried it), and the pathetic drivers license laws in the Netherlands (compared to the rest of Europe) would mean that I have to get a full motorcycle license for even a small 125cc scooter, even while I have a drivers license for cars since 1994 (and driving experience with mopeds and scoots since 1986)...

I could buy at least two Agilitys for the price of a motorcycle license, and the thought of being treated like a 17 year old again taking tests and exams makes my stomach turn, so I don't mind giving up a little reliabilty !!

Well, I got my full 'A' licence a month ago :-)   Options were A1,A2 and A(21+ )
No big deal and cost me about 200 eur + 20 eur new plastic drivers licence form in police. Two pages of written test, and practical exam on the road with motorcycle more than 50 cc and with at least 3 gears. And I had 'L' plate for a week on my Downtown 125(self lerning).
It was worth it and feels good. Few days ago I drove my friends yamaha fz 600  :-). By the way, I'm still keeping my agility 50.

Don't know why it's so expensive in NL, but I advise you to get yourself an A licence.

Agility 50 / Re: Tomos ST vs Agility 50 vs others
« on: June 10, 2011, 08:24:09 PM »
In my oppinion, agility is more practical because of storage under the seat
and gives you more comfort during everyday use.
Also, there is a usable rear seat and gives you better image.

Don't get me wrong
I like tomos machines and have both agility 50 and a tomos 14M model from 1982
50 cc, 7 hp, 5 speed and hitting 65 mph   ;D
awesome machine, but ST is different kind of machine

Anyway, my vote goes to agility

Agility 50 / Re: how often do you change your engine and gear oils?
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:41:34 AM »
I change my engine oil at 500-600 km in summer period
using 15 W-50 grade mineral oil.
4 liters can cost me 15 $, so it's 3-4 $ per one change.

Gear oil change at every 1500 km with sae 90 grade mineral.
1 liter bottle cost 8 $, about 1$ per change.

Generaly speaking, it's 10 $/ 1500 km.
often oil changes proved to be good choice in my experience.

At 16 000 km, with this service schedule, scooter still going strong and without problems.

Agility 50 / Re: speedo stuck at 0mph
« on: May 31, 2011, 12:03:55 AM »
I had simmilar problem, except mine was stuck at 20 km/h
My dealer solved the problem by re-routing cable around steering column(moved it a little bit right when looked in front view)
'cause it was tight and pressing needle against tacho.
You need to remove complete front mask with head light to do this job

If this doesn't solve your problem, other cause might be
broken cable or dead speedometer

1. Put your scooter on central stand and on a flat ground.

2. Remove black plastic dipstick (close to exhaust).

3. Undo a screw at the bottom of the engine 17 mm (beneath plastic dipstick). Be carefull, oil is going to drain !!!

4. Remove this screw but be carefull because there is a spring inside. Remove this spring also.

5. Remove oil filter screen (a small oval shaped metal net). Clean this screen with compressed air or with gasoline and let it dry.

6. Undo a golden coloured screw at the other side of the engine 17 mm (variator side). Some more oil is going to drain !!!

7. Screw back golden screw to its place.

8. Put oil screen filter and spring back to nut and screw back to its position (under the black dipstick at the bottom of the engine).

9. Pour fresh oil into a hole where black plastic dipstic is (exhaust side). Do not put more than 0.5l at once and put some more while checking dipstick. Do not exceed max mark !!!

10. Put back black dipstick and start the engine for 10 min. Check oil level again after that. Be sure you put back everything as it was before !!!

Good luck and write back what you did  :)

To change engine oil look in chapter 4 in service manual, and for transmission in chapter 10.
Everything is described with pictures.

As I understood, you said you put engine oil into transmission, or?
What roller weights you installed and is there any improvement in speed?

For engine, use 15w-40 or 10w-40 (if you can't find 15w) grade oil.
If you use mineral, change it at max 1000km (in summer at max 500-600 km)
and semi-synthetic at 2000 km.

For transmission use SAE 90 grade oil.

My problem with starter was that when I turn on ignition and press brake lever, starter refused to work.
Everything was ok since I pressed brake to actually start the engine.
Solved problem with WD 40. I guess you have other issue as you said.

And whirling, maybe it's whining sound??, I don't know.
A little bit of whining from the rear wheel is normal. It's being produced by transmission gears.
All GY6 have this sound.
Or it could be rear wheel bearings, but you don't have that much kms on your scooter.

I have no experience with this one.
I think is't the best to buy a set of main jet's and try wich one goes the best with the K&N.
It's important not to run on lean mixture because of famous hole in the piston.

162
Are you running 86 jet with stock air filter?

well, you're right.
I have gone a little bit off topic here!
Sorry for that  :)

Maybe it sounded like I'm trying to discourage others to do modifications
but after all I respect the fact that somebody could make a stock 50cc agility going 45+ mph.
I was quite surprised when I did cdi cut and mainly thanks to people here on this forum.

I also had problem that car drivers want to overtake me in 30 mph zone no matter how fast I'm going.
It has something to do with the fact that I'm seen as a 'lower class' traffic participiant when on two wheels.

So, I'll put an order on a new Downtown 125i soon :) but keep agility as it's a great scoot.
I live in suburban area with hills and curvy roads and combine use of these two scooters is good idea.

Cheers  :)

You know, when you do full de-restriction and variator mods you have better speed, but you want some more power and install
free flow air filter and bigger jet. Than you want better spark and buy iridium plug and racing high performance coil.
Than it comes to big bore and performance cylinder head with aftermarket exhaust(both quality brand parts could be very expensive)
and.........

And it's illegal !!!
Could not be driven as mopeds (50cc and 50 km/h max in my country) and needs to be registered as motorcycles and
driven with motorcycle 'A' licence.

my agility 50 has 5500 kms and I replaced rollers today and there was no more strange rattle sound
during acceleration, so it's a time to replace it on your's too. I put 6.5 grams

I did it myself (30 minutes job) and I'm weekend mechanic.

Here's service manual to download:

http://rapidshare.com/#!download|252l34|364918903|bmanual.com_Kymco_Agility_50.rar|17984

And you asked what can you do to make agility faster, so I guess you have fully de-restricted scoot(jet, boss drive, cdi).
Expected max speed is about 60 - 65 km/h (at least on mine). cdi is programmed for max 9000 rpm (7500 rpm restricted)
and whatever you do on your carb, exhaust, big bore, etc, will give you more power but no more speed.
For better speed place to look is your variator system(roller weights, drive/driven pulleys, clutch springs, belt and
gear ratio(most efficient in my oppinion).
But thats money pit man. I payed mine 850 eur new and I could easy spend 200-400 eur(almost half the value of the sooter) on quality variator mod. parts for 10-15 km/ speed increase.

You do the math is it worth to invest in such modifications.
I think it's better to buy 125 cc scooter (100+ km/h) with bigger chassis and invest in motorcycle drivers licence.

Don't get me wrong but that's my oppinion and my 65 km/h agility is just fine for me.
