I read a few stories in magazines of people carrying smallish plastic gasoline containers with them on runs. That would almost certainly cut down stops at gas stations. I do wonder how their butts feel :-)

I've had an Xciting 500 for 11 days. I really like it. Nice power to weight ratio. Looks very cool.  I haven't had it up very fast.. maybe I can get it to 60 mph this weekend.

I am moving up from a Scarabeo 250.

I have a call in to the dealer's "big store" about an hour away. Hopefully they can just use the code to order replacement keys.

I just lost one of my keys for my Xciting 500.  I have a metal tag that has D769 stamped on it. Is that the key code?

I stopped by the local key/alarm store and they only had the short Kymco blanks. Mine is about twice as long as they one they have. There a large length of the key blade that is uncut. Anyone know where I might be able to order these? My local dealer (the one a mile or so from me) said I should be able to get a blank from the key store.

Any info/help appreciated.

Look at my scooter's pics... is it normal to have orange faring change to silver down at the junction of the lower part like it does or should all the plastic be one color?  I just now noticed this.

Mine goes red to black. I really have to take some pics and figure out how to post them.

I put in. 2.575 gallons. The reserve light had just come on. I REALLY hope it wasn't completely full when I got it, becasue if it was, I'm only getting 35mpg at best. I know this is break-in mileage, but I think that's a little low.

I have no problems with back sputttering, I insert the nozzle deep into the fuel cap and wait for automatic shut off. Then pulling out a little and fill the last amount (volume like a cup) slowly.

What do you mean "insert the nozzle deep". My fuel cap tube has a plastic thing which doesn't allow the nozzle to go into filler tube to the blowback guard like it does on cars. Do you push hard and compress the spring on the nozzle?

Thanks for all the info.

It looks like my 90 miles isn't too bad, considering the reserve light (which the manual says I have) hasn't come on yet and th scoot hasn't broken in yet.

I am disappointed in the gas blow back reports. I have major problems with that on my Scarabeo 250. Anyone have any hints on how to limit it?

My new Kymco's gas guage is reading nearly empty. It's just above the white line on the red zone. I only have 90 miles on the scoot. The gauge read full when I got it. I don't remember the original mileage, it was still reading KMs for a couple days. So...

Might my mileage really be that bad on a good running scoot?

Is the gas gauge on the 500's flaky?

When filling the gas, can I just put the pump handle into the tank opening and squeeze, like a car? Or do I have to watch out for blow back?

Any help/info appreciated.

Xciting 500 / Re: Side Stand safety switch
« on: February 15, 2010, 11:25:15 PM »
As long as oil level is ok, I cannot think of a problem.  I've ridden all kind of bikes for years and never heard of an issue with them running while on the side stand.  My son's sport bike does not even have a center stand, nor does the VTX I used to have.  The xciting does not lean very far on the side stand anyway.  That engine should run in most any position as long as the carb works and it can pick up oil in the sump.

I have seen in this thread, and other places, that the back wheel will turn until the scoot warms up. I assume there is something warming in the clutch. So, if that back wheel can't turn during the warm up, it won't hurt th clutch or other stuff?

.. and yes, I'm probably paranoid, but it is a nice Red and Black scoot that fits me rather well, and I don't want to blow it up :-)

Does anyone know if there is possibility of harming anything by warming the scoot on the side stand, other than the risk of unscheduled take off? Wouldn't be the same thing as warming it while you sit on the bike?

I didn't know those had a safety switch on the center stand!  I don't have your model, so I can't speak from experience, but I'm sure you can just ground the switch to bypass it.  If you have a voltmeter it should be relatively easy to figure out.

The safety switch on the 500 is on the side stand. If you have it down, the scoot won't start. The starter turns the motor, but all you'd get is a dead battery eventually. If you are idling and put the side stand down, the engine is killed.

I am developing a bad knee. It won't be too long before putting a bigger scoot on the center stand is going to be a pain for me (pun intended). It would be nice to be able to warm the bike up while on the side stand.

I'll have to ask the dealer about the shudder and possibly replacing the rollers.

As I get ready to go to work, it is 34 degrees F.....
... at least it isn't raining :-)

Edit: Made it to work OK. Worst part was when I had to put my legs down. The cold kind of crept through. I put over-sized  sweats over my pants, wore my regular cool weather jacket, and a rain suit over everything. I'm going to have to look into other gloves. The ones I have are big, bulky and hard to manipulate, but they did keep my hands warm.

Hopefully it will be warmer at lunch :-)

Edit: I didn't leave for lunch, but did go out to dinner after work. 45 degrees. Not bad. I really like how the headlight is aligned, and the lights in the dash are great

So, Ive ridden on wet roads, in the cold, and at night. I'm feeling a little better about that 2 hour ride to Ocala for the Scooter Encounter rally.

Thanks for the paint tips. I guess I'll go do some pricing at the shop the dealer recommended.

As for the clutch... I'm less than one day into a 2 year warranty. I don't think they would look kindly on me mucking around with the clutch right now.

I learned a new lesson today... when it seems like the scoot is just TWO DAMN HEAVY to back up... make sure the parking break is off :-)
