General Discussion / Re: Dealer problems

I don't mean to sound cold but we are only hearing one side of the story...

...too many people use social media to blast a business when they don't get their way.

Yes - this is very much the case. When I was working for a large UK bike importer, we were quite hard on people that went public on social media. I'm not saying this is/should be every importer's policy, but as soon as they went public we stopped helping them entirely - the reputational damage was already done. It wasn't a hard-and-fast rule but that was mostly how it worked.

I have owned one 1000cc bike and by my own admission was nowhere near safe.

It took only about 2 months for me to realise this and sell it, which broke my heart (I'd always wanted one) but was necessary in terms of self-preservation.

I think I've only rode 125s and 50s since. I'd like to blame it on the fact that I was 25 years old, but I don't think I'd be any different now if I suddenly had 130 horsepower again...

1988 blue and white Honda CBR1000F, if you're asking. It was gorgeous.

I've been toying with getting something with more CCs for a while, but as I'm only going into the office once a week now (as soon as I'm allowed at all), I don't think I can justify a new vehicle for a weekly trip.

Rider for sure. Only started driving for my partner, really, and if it weren't for her I'd just keep a bike.

The only way to artificially increase more displacement is turbocharger or supercharger which is not practical on a scooter. You can implement several performance enhancements but does nothing to increase engine  displacement.

I've never seen one but in around 2003 we had the Peugeot Jet Force Compressor (125) in the UK that was supercharged, which is insane :D

Have you still got it Stig? If so that's a good long life for a top box!

Viper, what's an allotment?
Stig

Sorry, I didn't spot that. It's a weirdly British thing - as Neil has outlined - where you can rent a little cheap strip of land to grow veggies.

It's surprising how many veggies you can get on a bike!

Would quite like an old Yamaha Majesty 400. Not even a lot of money, really...

Had my worst accidents on small bikes at low speed, and each time been grateful of my boots. The one where I shattered the chin of my helmet on the road was also good fun.

That’s something which is sooo different here dependent on whether you’re in the north or the south!  We northerners being very open and welcoming (read nosey); quite different to those surly southerners!

Southerners are the worst.

Shame you don't get the Vision 110 in the US. 16 or 17 inch wheels and absolutely ubiquitous here.

Got a ‘14 plate Chinese 125 going if you’re interested? It’s a runner with new rubber...

I'll drop you a PM :) I'm always interested to some degree... :D

**edit**

Just realised the irony of this in an inpulse-buying thread...

I don't think we ever had the Lambretta-badged stuff here until fairly recently, and I don't think we get the same scooters that you do with the Lambretta badge slapped on them.

For a little while we had Norton scooters as well on the same premise.

AJS-badged stuff has been fairly successful in the UK.

Lots of old marques floating around :)

Lots of secondhand bicycles on the market in six month's time :)

OK, perhaps that was a bit cynical. I've noticed more bikes out and about, which is great.

I'm not sure how many people make the jump from bicycles to scooters, but we can always hope!

I regret that I've been unable to find the photo of my old Lexmoto Gladiator with 7 bags of compost on it. It handled like a boulder...
