General Discussion / Re: Impulse buying while quarantined?
« on: May 20, 2020, 07:54:02 AM »
Actually just the opposite has happened here. I don't know if it's money from the stimulus checks to people who are still working or just pent-up angst from being at home. I've seen 3 low mileage Kymco scooters go for considerable more then their book value. All three were under a thousand miles and mint condition.

We have the same here. Bike prices are sky high - in fact, they're insane for some of the rubbish that's out there at the moment. Each time I see an advert that I think is reasonable, it's for a non-running bike. Madness.

In one thing I envy you TBR, when I was 16 and setting out on my riding life, there was nothing like this forum to sound out ideas. Just bike clubs, who looked down their noses at spotty oiks who knew nothing and only rode a “tiddler”.

Took me years to pal up with a knowledgeable guy (through work) who knows far more about bikes than I ever will.  These days, all that experience is freely available here on the forum! What a resource.

On the flipside, misinformation has also been given a new lease of life ;)

I've had to reign it in, it's hard impulse buying because there's so much out there at the moment!

I've never really thought about this - just looking at all your comments - I've just always kind of gone around corners with not a huge amount of thought.

I have had a couple of scooters that would ground out on corners - thinking back to my Baotian BT49, the first delivery donkey... the left centre stand lug would sometimes spark as it was basically used as a third rail :S

Can't remember how I got around that now.

Can't disagree with you Viper, there's far too much 2-wheel snobbery around.

Continuing the spirit full disclosure I should just say that, as a real Team Green fan and previous Kawasaki owner, I went out to buy a J300 last year.  The dealer then asked me why, given that they were selling the X-Town 300i (basically an updated J300 which is a re-badged DownTown 300) for roughly £1,100 less.  To quote our American cousins, I decided this was a no brainer, the XT300 is was then.

Great price, brilliant scooter.

I also like a bit of team green. I had a KLE500 for quite a few years and adored it. I like the GPZ500 as well. Both quite old hat now...

Mine don't really do anything much anymore. The C70 goes to the allotment and back which is about a 3 mile round trip. The Melody will do the same when it's all pieced back together, which isn't too far away now.

Plus, I would add that social media (one site in particular) has killed the forum format with it's "groups" concept. There's no concept of archiving there and information is transient, and so the same questions come around and around again and then get lost in the passage of time.

I prefer forums because they are much more searchable and better indexed for information, but there's no doubt they are a format in decline, in my mind.

Couple of pictures would be cool - if it's standard 139QMB-type lump it's not all that obvious

Those Lexmotos sell well over here don't they?  Follow a young lass on Twitter who bought a 125 one to pass her test and she loved it!

Pre-declared interest - I worked for Lexmoto for a few years and am a fervent advocate of Chinese scooters and bikes, whilst being realistic about their issues.

Consistently the 2nd biggest selling marque in the country, behind Honda.

They were hit and miss for a lot of years but have really sorted their act out now along with Sinnis, their only real competition.

If I were in the market for a new, cheap commuter I'd have real trouble justifying another Suzuki (or a Honda) £2200 base model (Address/Vision) over the £1300 Lexmoto Titan.

They've just started selling a 300 scooter as well.

If it's got a clutch, Castrol 10-40W semi synth

If it's a CVT, Shell 10-40W fully synth :)

In particular, the Shell fully synth was gorgeous in my scoot when I was couriering for a living and doing about 1000 miles a week. I don't miss that aspect of it...

Well, I'm finished buying and selling scooters (unless Honda brings back a nice 250>300 bigwheel scooter, and it would have to be RED!)

No Honda SH300 in your country? It's a not-uncommon beast here!

I rode a ker-nacked Lexmoto Gladiator for about 18 months before the top end went (it cost me £180, I wouldn't say it was a reflection the quality of the bike) and I sold it again for £40. That bike was great - kept me afloat in a financial hole when I couldn't afford anything else - and I remember that the lights were great.

Sadly not!

I've drained the carb on the C70 and am just waiting...

Car went flat a week or so ago.

In the UK that's what we refer to the Suzuki TL1000S as :)
