I agree completely.  There are enough things to watch on the road without having some jackhole riding your bumper.  I especially loved the day when I let a woman in a minivan pass me rather than ride my bumper.  I pulled up next to her at the next light and before I even got a word out, she yelled, "You bikers all think you own the road."  Mind you, I was riding a scooter.  I just started laughing....how do you argue with that?

No, MassScoot, I am not a woman, I just have a twisted sense of humor.  Unless you are a woman, and then yeah, I am up for stealing a feel...just don't tell my wife.:)

Martyf250,
I am in RI also....no issues from using the 10% ethanol...my mechanic also indicated it should not be an issue.  Where in RI are you, if you don't mind?

Guys,
You are going about this the wrong way - instead of making yours seats softer, you need to make your butts harder.  Take it from me, I grew up riding horses, and after hours in the saddle,  a few hours on a kymco seat brings back fond memories.  By the way, MassScoot, if your ass feels great, do the rest of us get to feel it...I'm always up for feeling a great ass.  Sorry guys....I tried to resist....I really did :).

I thought I would post this in the "General" forum. I received my seat cushion for my Kymco GT300i on Friday. As most of you know, Kymco has never really made a soft seat (IMHO) I have an older AirVent (no longer in business) seat cushion that was decent, but not great either. I went with a large @ 14"x11" Fits my scoot fairly well. It looks very well made. The outside is made of neoprene & has memory foam & 3/4" of gel. With my frame @ 225lbs. (keep the fat jokes coming!), it works like a CHAMP! Before the football games yesterday, I took a appx. 75 mile trip & I must admit my ass felt great after I put my GT300i on it's center stand @ homebase. They are not cheap. I paid $89.95, plus $12.95 for shipping. For the $100.00+ investment, it's worth it! Just thought I would pass this along.

Been reading your comments about service with interest.  I have a 2009 XC250RI.  The manual states oil changes every 1200 miles and valve check and adjustment every 2400 miles.  The valve adjustment requires that several body panels be removed.  By the way, it is essentially the same engine as in the P250S, except for being fuel injected.
When I bought my XC, I also tested a P250S.  The P250S was $600 dollars cheaper ($3400 vs $4000), but I bought the XC, because I had trouble finding enough room for my feet on the floorboard.  The riding position for me was much more comfortable on the XC, with the ability to vary foot position - something you should consider since you have been riding Silverwings and Burgs.  My feet are a size 10 for reference.  Of course the XC is 40lbs (if I remember correctly) heavier.
Good luck convincing your wife about a second scooter...I am fighting the same battle.

Welcome to the forum.  I ride my XC250 to work everyday it isn't snowing or raining, and sometimes even if it is raining.  I sometimes wish I had a longer commute - mine is only about 5 miles.  The XC is a comfortable ride for my commute and makes the trip slightly faster than my truck
Sorry to hear about your battery issues.  My guess is that it drained while sitting at the dealers.  I would suggest that you have someone look it over before you do much riding.  Change the oil ASAP and have someone check the transmission oil and brake fluid as well.  They are probably fine, but if they have been sitting, it might make sense to replace them now, rather than wait for the 200 mile first service.  One of the best things about the XC is the fuel injection.  Wait until your scoot is broken in..they purr like kittens then.  I am just now getting to that point with about 1400 miles on mine.  Good luck and enjoy.

It was a close decision about motorcycle vs. scooter.  I wanted something that would get at least 50 mpg.  Also I wanted some protection from the road as I would be commuting to work.  I was planning to drive mostly in the city, so no clutch was a big factor.  I also wanted something with storage to bring shoes and paperwork into my office.  I also wanted something that I could ride on the highway, if necessary.  I wanted something relatively comfortable, due to back problems.  I am not into loud exhausts.  Finally, I wanted something different.  After doing research, a scooter seemed to fit the bill better than a motorcycle.  I still plan to get a motorcycle for fun, but my scooter will stay my daily commuter, and it's a lot of fun as well.

I have a XC250 and most people around here are used to seeing the retro-styled scooters or the little chinese scooters.  Every once in a while you will see a Silverwing or Majesty, but the touring style scooters are still few and far between.  The questions I get asked the most - How much was it?, How fast does it go?, and Why didn't you buy a motorcycle instead?  People also ask about the gas mileage a lot

When I told my wife about the classic car show, she just laughed....nice support :)

General Discussion / Scooter in a classic car show

So I was riding through the local city park when I saw a lot of classic cars.  While looking for a spot to park, this guy waved me into a narrow lane with a lot of motorcycles parked in it.  I parked and took off my helmet.  The guy handed me a raffle ticket.  I asked what the ticket was for and he told me I get it for entering my ride.  I said there was a mistake and I would move my scooter.  The guy asked me to leave the scooter because it was "different" and people might have questions. I figured what the hell?  I walked around checking out the motorcycles and classic cars.  I went back to my scooter and 6 people were around.  They asked several questions and then about flipped out when I popped the seat and pulled out my helmet.  That started even more questions.  I didn't win anything, but it was kind of funny to see people checking out my scoot.

Congrats Big O.  Hope you enjoy the big XC as much as you did the little one.

My XC250 just hit a 1000 miles - bought new this April.  Only issue I've had is the locked compartment under the handlebars.  The lock retainer broke in half.  The rest of the scoot has performed without issue.

I have a Xc250Ri and have had no issues with the efi.  In fact, I love it in the cooler weather.  I only have a 1000 miles on it, but have never had a problem with idling or acceleration.  Having had bikes with carbs in the past, I would never go back after experiencing the efi.

Well This post was quite helpful for the old farts that ride the pretend motorcycles here. Cheap buggers ;) can't afford a real bike...

Hey! I resemble that remark!

I agree with Zombie on your first question....like riding around with a bomb on your scoot...I wouldn't do it.  As for your second question, you will find that opinions will be divided.  Some people like the taller windscreens to reduce buffeting, and to keep warmer if riding in the cold.  Others (myself included) like the shorter windscreens.  This way, on hot days, I still get the wind and on the few times, I have been caught in the rain, it helps to clear my helmet.  I also still have the option to tuck in, to avoid the wind at high speeds or on cold days.  Finally, the taller windscreens are just one more thing that could (not necessarily would) hamper my vision and or distort it.  Just my opinion, keep in mind - I'm sure others will disagree.
