All my offs have been single person offs.

My personal favourite was crashing my C90 (passport 90) into a flower bed in front of B&Q

General Discussion / Re: NSR: what are you listening to?
« on: January 26, 2023, 01:30:34 PM »
I listen to the British invasion, Spencer Davis, Troggs, Yardbirds, Hollies, Tremelos, etc. mostly, not so much Beatles & Stones

and the American group, Rhinoceros, and Neil Young

but I would never pass up an opportunity to see Blue Man Group

I really enjoyed that album having never heard of the band before, thankyou for the post

Unusual for me to disagree with Neil but the speed of the filtering is the issue here - if he's been doing an appropriate speed he would have easily stopped. I've been in that situation in Derby a number of times.

I hate to back up a driver but there's absolutely no way that car could have been them coming.

I had a '89 Jetta when i was 17 for a few months - 1.3 normally aspirated with 4 speed transition. It was probably still the coolest car I've ever owned.

Thanks for that JJJoseph.  It's my intention to await delivery of the belt, rollers & sliders I've ordered before popping the cover off and getting stuck in.  Delivery promised for the window 14-26 January!  Clearly it's a long way for the postie to walk from Italy to the UK...

Here's hoping the customs man/lady isn't going to come knocking for you...

While riding along in the dark and the rain yesterday morning on my 2012 Kymco LIKE200iLX I got to thinking - "wonder what electrical thing is going to be the first thing to quit and strand me out here some dark morning?"

Much more than a spark-plug, cap, wire or coil would be too much for a roadside fix - but wonder what I could replace every 10 years to forestall a roadside breakdown.
I'm figuring that it would likely be electrical in nature - the CVT is cared for too religiously to be a concern. I don't wait to see how long a $45 belt will last - I just replace 'em per the schedule....probably while they still have thousands of miles of life remaining on them. I don't care. "Off" they come!

Your thoughts?

Stig

My Like200i used to blow the auxillary fuse every so often, so I'd hedge my bets on electrical.

I also had a pitiful year of about 2500 miles, mostly between July and the end of the year.

Will ride more in 2023 as I continue to refuse to buy another car after Mrs. Viper learned to drive.

I used to use a shop that charged lower rates for scooters, albeit not much. I'm not sure why. The engines are simpler usually, but the bodywork is more troubling in a shop situation.

Our minimum wage is about $14, but the cost of living is more I think - swings and roundabouts!

Ride safe.

Nice reminder Stig.  In my defence, I did ride home from a late night meeting last night and the dash showed the ambient temperature as -4C on its way to -8C later!  It's been some years since I did that and now I recall why.  The cold getting through my layers wasn't the issue, the possiblity of chucking my scoot up the road on black ice was!  Rode like a vicar all the way home.

Reversing the scoot back into my garage revealed another issue.  Rear brake dragging.  Maybe ice, maybe the road salt has got to the caliper?  Too cold in my garage to investigate.  It can wait 'til next week when we're supposed to be enjoying more temperate (if wet) weather.

You're brave; I've laid mine up under the cover whilst waiting for this cold snap to pass. We have a few days now before it turns cold again on Friday!

I know I'm very late to the party here but I also have a long commute, albeit only 1 or 2 days a week nowadays - 50 miles each way.

You do get used to it. Only in the last few months have I had something with more than 20 horsepower to do the route with; you just get used to the slow trundle towards where you need to be.

Now, we; as I expect do most; have certain pressure on cost of living which means I couldn't afford to drive this commute if I wanted to, despite my partner owning a reasonably economic car. So doing the trip on a small capacity, efficient bike is now a necessity.

Stay wrapped up warm. Fit a pair of heated grips - there's low-draw ones especially for scooters out there. You get used to it, and after a while you even start to like it.

Having worked out what 12$ is in £, I can see this is going to make a real difference to your quality of life, and wish you all the best for it!

Fresh snow isn't too bad to ride in, I've done that a fair few times. Nothing eats snow like my Cub 70 (Passport 70) does; it really shines in the snow.

The light bars are brilliant - £10 or so off eBay and boom, the whole road is bathed. Makes for much more comfortable rural riding!

Sounds like you’re two wheel mobile again Viper? Cue for a ride in the Spring? So, Suzuki? Is it going to Trent Vale for treatment?

I'd love a ride in the spring. I'm sorry I haven't been in touch this year - I've thought about it a few times but have been struggling with work quite a bit.

The CB250 retired with what I suspected to be crank bearing problems perhaps 6 weeks ago - it's over in Crewe now, apparently - but I've bought a 6 year old Suzuki Inazuma 250 that's been ruthlessly flogged to Nottingham and back ever since.

Indeed, good old Powerslide down in Trent Vale - it's looking a bit sorry for itself in there, actually. Hope they can keep it going when the Suzuki range is looking so bizarre and sparse in the UK at the moment.

6 recalls?!
We had Suzuki cars sold her for a short time - but I think you are talking about a motorcycle - yes?
Don't know that I've ever heard of more than 2 on a bike or scooter.
Maybe the Brits are more particular than us Gringos?

Stig

Bike, yes. It does seem a lot - I had another Suzuki from new about 7 years ago and that had quite a few as well.

I think they're really stringent on them over here. None of it is what I'd call serious - one is a "design fault with the brake light switch".

To be fair, that is a particularly delicious looking piece of beef.

I'm near vegetarian nowadays - still have the occasional bit of chicken and fish - but the creeping prices of meat are particularly harsh.

It's only 10 years ago I was riding a £100 moped around to work and back.
