Thanks Mr Paul and eamartin! I will get some Seafoam.

I have no idea if my GV250 has an accessible fuel valve -- any advice on that? So I'm inclined to just go on a mile or so cold ride to let it mix through. Sound adequate?

In other words, what's the maximum number of weeks or months that one can leave a scooter unused? What are the long-term risks to (a) battery and (b) scooter generally for leaving it unused for, say, 1 month?

FYI, I've been using the Cen-Tech 61911 'deluxe' battery maintainer / float charger, $20 at Harbor Freight:

Is there a kick start mechanism anywhere on this fine (but not reliably holding charge/starting, in my case) scooter?

Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks, Wolf. Will check 'em out.

Seems to be have charged now. I think (hope) it's just that my trickle charger is getting more fussy about how it's connected.

Thanks Wolf. I wish I could figure out that site though! Can't seem to complete a search, and selecting Grand Dink 250 in the 'all webshop' sidebar area doesn't seem to lead anywhere. Any advice on how to find mirrors for my GV 250?

On another, minor note, now my bike's not holding charge nor even making an attempt to start. Oy. I need to look at the battery...

Just to provide a not very satisfactory end to this story:

I stripped the housing off the severed wires, about 1/2'' or so, which was a challenge for the small ends down inside the mirror body. (Used utility knife for that since my electrician pliers wouldn't fit down there.)

I then hammered the broken and bent out circular piece back in so it was flush with the 'framing'. This involved shaving off some of the framing to make it fit back in (with utility knife). No plastic bonder seems to be needed 'cause it's so tight.

Then I butt-jointed the wires back together and did my best to crimp them with pliers -- again quite difficult for the small wire ends down inside the housing.

Alas, it doesn't work! The left mirror still functions but the right one's destined to be in permanently open position. Oh well. I saved $150 parts+labor in just reattaching it. Guess I'll make an ebay alert for a functioning one and someday get it back to its James Bondian coolness level.

Whew -- the bike finally got fully charged and starts. So it appears it's just a matter of mirror repair now.

Surprised NAPA didn't have Q-bond; maybe I'll have to step into WalMart.

Thanks to all for your insight and suggestions!

The part that broke (aside from the 2 wires) is plastic so the Q-bond sounds like the best bet.

It's not even trickle-charging though, so ... what does that mean? It's not down to the severed mirror wires, is it? Like to complete a circuit or something? (Obviously I'm pretty ignorant in these matters.) I wouldn't expect that to be the case. Maybe I'll try taping them back together and see if that does anything for charging/starting.

(And Scooterwolf, good idea; I'll check battery connection now. Not clear on sparkplug location but can check my manual.)

Such a bummer, the bike was just out of the shop a few weeks ago and running perfectly... : (

Took a little spill on wet leaves just leaving my street and that was all it took for a broken right mirror. The pictures tell the story. (Scroll sideways to see all 3.)

Anyone with experience repairing this on their own? Would love to know how to save some bucks.

On another, more disconcerting note, the scooter's not starting now…

Thanks all! I will get it plugged in to my trickle charger / battery maintainer!

Ride safe.

I usually ride it at least a few miles at a time; is that a short run?
But I'm more concerned with not using it all for a period of time, which i have been recently due to (non motorcycle) injury.

Thanks.

Hey all. Is there a rule of thumb for how many weeks of non-use before you keep a GV on trickle charge?

It was on the center stand. Yeah, I was surprised it just started streaming out once the bolt was loosened. OK, guess I better take your advice: drain and reinject. Messy stuff; I think I'd rather pay people for this kind of thing.  : )

Thanks!
