Mine came of the side stand at the gas station less than a month after getting it. With the scratch on the right rear panel from original shipping, I ended up replace all the red plastic except the hand rail and that little tail piece between the hand rails on the back... AND the left mirror and brake lever. Allstate paid for it except for the deductible. :-)

I screwed it back in, hand tight, then used both hands to adjust. I also noticed that I wasn't seeing behind me very well. So, I put it on the side stand and turned the wheel all the way to the left and adjusted the mirror (using the bottom adjustment) so that it almost touched the windshield, and then adjusted the mirror using both hands. I'm going to have to do the same with the left mirror. I have seen complaints that the mirrors don't give much of a view. I can see almost everything behind me now :-)

Are there pictures/docs on how to screw extenders into the stalks? I'm thinking that might be one way to change mirrors.

Xciting 500 / Oil Service Indicator Light
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:21:34 PM »
I noticed my oil service indicator light came on a couple days ago. The only reason I saw it was because it was before sunrise.

I'm only at 3850 miles. Might there be a problem, or is it just giving me advance warning of the 4000 mile checkup?

Thanks.

It isn’t just the nut on the bottom that has gotten loose. The upper part of the mirror has gotten loose, too. I had to spin the mirror itself, and then try to position the stalk without loosening either the nut or the mirror.

I wonder if there are any third party mirrors for the X500?

Why would I need to tighten the mirrors more frequently if I use a cover (which I  do)?

I tightened the nut under the rubber boot. All seemed fine. Then, when I was riding to work this morning, my mirror loosened up. I was able to twirl it around an then position it. Anyone have any idea why mirror and assembly seems to be coming apart, and what I can do about it?

Thanks. I found the nut under rubber "boot".  I was able to tighten it a little by hand. Hopefully that will keep it tight until I get home tonight, and hopefully I'll have the correct wrench size. ... and thanks for the size info.

How do you tighten a mirror?

My right mirror came loose and I don't see a way to tighten it.

Are we sure all the stores have closed? ... even the ones in Florida?

But I don't see a rational reason for a higher displacement motorcycle. Scooters of the 250-500cc (single-with pillion) class are already nice touring machines.

For some of us ... "bigger"... people (I'm 270 lbs), riding 2 up can be a problem on even the bigger (500-650cc) scoots, which can be done with 1000+ motorcycles.

I just filled up today.. got 42 mpg ... argh. I think my tires may need some from, at least I hope that's all it is.

Most of my riding is in town... stretches of 25 - 45 mph with few 55 mph+, except on the weekends. I have not had the scoot up to 85 mph.
