General Discussion / Re: How many miles on your Kymco scooter ?
« on: September 19, 2013, 12:34:49 AM »
2009 Xciting 250Ri..bought "new" in April 2012 with 3 miles on it.  I now have 2880 problem- free miles.  I often ride with my wife 2-up on it and have had no problems with this either.  The only issue of any note is that the small storage box in the front panel will no longer lock as the lock broke....but I never use it...it could maybe hold my wallet and not much more.

Your wife must not read this forum.....LOL

No she doesn't....but she does know that I occasionally make such comments....always as a joke.  My wife is the best partner a man could have and my best friend.

Congrats on your purchase AD.  Sounds like a sharp looking scooter and a good deal to boot.  Ride safely.

General Discussion / Re: Why so many '09 'new' scooters for sale?
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:03:13 AM »
I agree with AMAC.  I bought my "new" 2009 scooter in 2012 from a reputable dealer, who made sure the scoot was in perfect running order - even replaced some scratched tupperware (two small scratches) for free and I still paid $2k less than a 2012 model would have cost.  They had bought about 20 scooters from a dealership that had failed and were still making a good profit at the low price.  They were happy, and I was happy.  I have had no issues with the scooter after over 3000 miles so far.  I would do the same again.

General Discussion / Scooters in Mexico
« on: September 05, 2013, 01:08:30 PM »
Just got back from vacation in Mexico - along the Riviera Maya.  Beautiful place - wish I had a way to take my scooter.  Saw literally hundreds of scooters and small displacement motorcycles.  Many of the motorcycles were old classics.  I also saw a lot of old Symbas and Cubs.  However, all of the newer scooters appeared to be Chinese brands and this was especially true of the rentals.  Still it was interesting to see people on 50 cc scoots driving them from Cancun to Tulum along the highway - a distance of about 75 - 80 miles!

LOL...my wife actually is a great cook....my scooter, not so much.  And my wife is not really a complainer, but she was a little jealous when I first got my scooter.  Now that I bring her along, she likes the scooter too and was surprised by it's speed and comfort.

This week - rode her to work, washed her, took my wife for a ride on her, took pictures of her, and rode her to work again.  She didn't complain once - I wish my wife would learn that :).

Weird how that happens sometimes, Six.  A few years ago, a friend of mine was in an accident.  When examined at the hospital, they found an aneurism in his stomach that was about to burst.  It would have killed him in about 2-3 minutes and they would never found it except for the accident.  Not that getting cancer is good, but knowing about it and being able to treat it is better than dying from it.  Stay strong and best of luck.

Glad to have you back and scootin' big blue.  The grin on your face from riding will likely do your heart a lot of good as well.

Lance and TomosZnen and Linhai may also be worth consideration.

I would also consider CF Moto.  If you are looking for cheaper than  Kymco with some quality, you may also want to consider Hyosung - they are Korean.  None of these match Kymco or Sym quality - but they may be acceptable.  Just remember you get what you pay for and these will all lack something - build quality, reliability, safety, or dealer network.

General Discussion / Re: parking etiquette

One bike per parking spot, unless you are riding with someone or know them well and then it is kind to share the spot.   You never know how much space the other person actually needs to maneuver especially if they are a hog, err....I mean ride a harley :)
