Downtown 300 / Re: Dt 300i Front Brake Pads
« on: March 30, 2017, 12:04:10 PM »
Well Stig, I can see I need the right tool to get in there!  Nothing have have will work. So yeah it can easily be done with the right tool.

My LIKE200i  on lline manual freq says to remove more stuff than is absolutely necessary. I found enough room behind muffler to screw out caliper holding bolts, leaving exhaust in place. Could not remove bolts from holes....but things were un screwed so i could lift out caliper to play with the pads.
Slip caliper back onto disc after pushing back pads for clearance....bolt it back up!
Maybe you have room enough to do same?
Stig

Was just looking at the manual online and they say I need to remove the muffler and fender?? :P

It's not a big job, remove the caliper. Makes the entire process way easier.

Downtown 300 / Back Brake Changing?
« on: March 30, 2017, 08:17:27 AM »
Hey :)

I want to change my back brake myself and wondered if someone had a nice video tutorial on how to do this on the Downtown.  I am a visual learner and this would be super helpful.

Thanks,

OK thanks so I think I may need new back pads than.  Getting pretty close.  You think I can handle changing the pad myself.  Is it a really big job to do this? :) Shouldn't be to bad hey.
Our DT uses sliding calipers.  Meaning only one side of the caliper houses the piston.

So one side will generally wear faster than the other.

You need to monitor the pad such as the faster wearing side is the pad wear indicator. Replace both pads at the same time.

I was wondering about my back brake pad.  One side I can see there is still alot even after 10,000 km's but one side I can't see well or it appears pretty thin.  Is it just that one one side you can't see it well enough to compare it to the other side?  Front I can see both sides well and have lots still.

Wonderful!

Thanks everyone who replied to my question. The problem is now solved. Someone helped me to whack on the cap with rubber hammer as I was twisting the key. By doing this for about a minute, I was suddenly able to turn the key fully and then it poped out.

Downtown 300 / Clean up :)

I am always impressed with how well the bike keeps pretty clean around the motor regardless of the very dirty conditions we have in Canada here.

Well I must be blind than cause I see no where Kneeslider said that I did not have to remove the front to get to the bottom. :) Any way all OK I am pleased to know now I don't have to!  Maybe next winter project. Thanks a bunch :)

you do not have to remove front (around head lights) to get the bottom pieces off. As kneeslider said
really no need to take that apart, just to clean unless you just have time to kill and want to see what's in there. I took mine off because I was fabricating highway foot pegs, as the operators area is a bit small on the DT. I had ti find some steel under there to attach HW bar set up

Well if it is not a big job to take it off I am willing to do it.  Not sure but it looks like my book is telling me I have to take of the whole dang front of it to get to that bottom piece???

To be honest, I wouldn't even bother with it. I'd just spray water in there to rinse it and call it a day.

and my scooter is already on 47000kms, daily rider thru the tropical heat and monsoon seasons.
