General Discussion / Re: So who's riding this winter?
« on: November 17, 2010, 04:41:59 AM »
It doesn't get all that cold here, down in the 20's a couple of times last winter, which I rode through. It's the rain that I don't like...
I got caught in the stuff that just went up the east coast this afternoon. It was just enough to soak my pants. As luck would have it, my rain gear was on the dining room table.

Do you have dealer/installers in the States, particularly North Florida?
... and what's the price?

My mileage records at Fuelly:

I watched the gas gauge closely for a few months. It looks like the half mark is more like just under 1/3 (full).

It looks like I put in 2.7-ish gallons if the reserve light comes on and I fill up fairly quickly. I guess I have around 20 miles to go once the reserve light comes on.

modify a Vespa one...................

I don't have the skills :-)

I suppose I could pay someone to do it.

I just sent an email to OVC, which apparently has a sidecar for the X500. I requested pricing info, info on shipping to the US, and info on US dealers, if any. And, apparently, the cozy sidecar is adaptable. So, maybe I'll get some good news.

Does anyone know where I might get a side car for the X500?

A side car would solve a lot of problems for me... a place to put Christmas presents, a place for Rudy (my 10 y/o mini dachshund)... stuff like that?

... that reminds me, I have to put some pictures up of Rudy, I only put his "baby" picture up.

Any info appreciated.

...yup..warmed well!!..

..and there's a certain...

..state of mind, you must get in..to ride in 20 degree weather...

It was in the 20s for a few days here (North Florida coast) last year. My snowsuit came in... after the worst of it. Sweat pants and shirt over my clothes, my medium jacket that covers the neck and a rain suit over that. 3/4 helmet with full face shield. Gloves. 25 minute ride. I was toasty.

I did some riding in the teens many (many) years ago.

I'll probably ride through it this year, too... as long as it isn't wet and cold.

$3200 is a good deal for that scoot...
.. I wonder how he managed to get 60+ mpg?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think the stock handle may no be quite as high a quality as the replacement. And... I live about 3 minutes from the beach by car. There are times when you can see the salt build up on glass.

Xciting 500 / Sun Damage & rust
« on: August 02, 2010, 11:28:04 AM »
MY Red X500 has to live outside, and I am very lax about putting the cover on (and the fact that moisture gets underneath and makes the scoot almost as wet as if the cover wasn't there).

Anyway... the black plastic is already fading somewhat. Does anyone have any suggestions for maintaining the plastic, and possibly restoring the deep black color? Armor All? Something else?

Also, the stock right hand brake lever tension control (the little circular piece with the numbers) is rusting, well, the numbers are. The left one, which was replaced after I dropped the scoot, isn't. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the rust and stop it from re-occurring?

Any and all help appreciated.

You put a Tulsa windshield on a scoot?

What is a Tulsa?

It sounds like the regular  "stock" clear windscreen is the best compromise for me. It cuts a lot of wind, but doesn't seem add much, if any, drag.

Shouldn't there be less drag with the smooth, tapered windshield as opposed to the air hitting the rider?

Thanks. I took a look, but I still need to find a few more.
