Variator tool, multimeter, and a tricle charger if you don’t have one already.

Quite sad. I have asked at least three questions to this mechanic at the time he was still active because I thought answers  could easily help to clear some common issues on specific scooters. Without blaming him - he never bothered to answer my questions while he was still active.

I saw this happened on other forums as well. Mechanics join forums with a big “hoo-haa” but after a couple of tricky questions simply disappear. I could be wrong but I always get the impression they do not have answers for questions about all different models on the market - therefore they eventually disappear.
Maybe very obvious - I don’t think they ever get detailed training on all models, therefore it is obvious that they will not know everything.

General Discussion / Re: Riding Philosophy
« on: January 02, 2021, 06:56:18 AM »
Exactly, I may have went little overboard in acquisition but the realization that  I  may not have that many more years of riding left.

There's another old saying that's  a version of the George Bernard Shaw quote; We don't stop riding because we grow old, we grow old because we stop riding.

My feeling as well. I had to sell my perevious motorcycle due to a continious ciatic nerve problem and at the time I thought I would never be able to ride something with handlebars again.
Within less than two weeks after the motorcycle was gone my ciatic nerve problem disappeared and I found it difficult to face life without handlebars. So I decided to get hold of a small scooter just to see how things turn out. The idea was to get a bigger scooter later if the scooter did not cause ciatic nerve problems again.
My best decission ever. The little scooter never caused any problems and I am as happy as a small fish in a large ocean. The scooter keeps me young and puts a smile on my face every day of my life. I permanently look for an excuse to jump on the scooter for a ride to a shop or wherever.

I could be wrong but I started thinking a scooter might even be safer to ride in general, compared to a motorcycle. I think specially leg and foot injuries might be less severe in case of an accident on a scooter.
Whatever the case - by times I still think about getting a cruiser type of motorcycle for longer distances but the idea of a bigger chance of getting foot or leg injuries at this age scares me off a bit. These days I just feel so much safer with my legs right next to each other on a scooter.

Technical | How To / Re: is adding an aftermarket horn possible?
« on: December 30, 2020, 05:15:05 PM »
Just an explanation about something which might cause confusion:

Chrossbolt referred to terminals 30 and 87 on the 4 pin relay as the switch part of the relay - while I referred to terminals 30 and 87 as the “switch part” of the relay.

Chrossbolt is technical correct - terminals 30 and 87 on a “normally open” relay has a little plate which flicks over to make direct contact between the two terminals once the electric circuit gets completed between terminals 85 and 86.

The reason why I prefer to refer to terminals 85 and 86 as the “switch part”of the relay - the little plate between terminals 30 and 87 will never complete an electric circuit unless the circuit between terminals 85 and 86 gets completed in advance. Therefore terminals 85 and 86 actually need to become part of of the horn Button (some kind of a switch in this case)  to complete the “switch circuit” in order to generate a direct link between 30 and 87.

Long story but Crossbolt is technical correct - he referred to the little plate between 30 and 87 which flicks over like a switch when the circuit between 85 and 86 gets completed.
Right or wrong - I prefer to refer to refer to 85 and 86 as the “switch part” ( in brackets), because the link between 30 and 87 will never be completed unless a button or switch get pressed - and 85 and 86 in not part of that “switch circuit”. Fact is - that little plate between 30 and 87 becomes the direct link between the Battery and the Horn when the switch circuit (which includes 85 and 86) gets activated.

Hopefully this is not causing more confusion.

I assume the Relay is a 4 pin “Normally Open” relay.

You can use this diagram on any scooter, car, or whatever when you use a 4 Pin “Normally Open” relay:

1. Disconnect the wire which has positive (+) power at the old horn when you press the horn button, and connect that wire to 86 on the 4 pin Relay.

2. Connect 85 on the Relay to the scooter frame or (-) on the Battery.

(85 and 86 is the “switch part” on a  “Normally Open” 4 pin Relay).

3.  30 on the Relay gets linked directly to the battery - with a Fuse in between.
(You can use a fuse slightly higher than 5 Amps for the new horn).

4. 87 on the Relay needs to be linked directly to the Positive (+) terminal on the new horn.
(The horn should also have a Negative (-) connection, which can be earthed on the scooter Frame, or the Negative (-) on the Battery.

If you wire the horn up this way the new horn will work when you press the existing horn Button, and the horn will get Positive (+) power feed directly from the Battery - without overloading the existing scooter Fuses or scooter Wires. The horn Button will not be overloaded either - because the new horn will pull Power directly from the Battery.

By doing the wiring this way the old horn will get bypassed though. If you want to use the old horn at the same time as well you can actually install a 5 pin relay - but I think the horn Button, an existing fuse and even some existing wiring might not last.

I never installed an alarm system on a scooter or motorcycle. What normally activates these alarms ?

Who's Ellen Musk?

Stig

An ex-South African who did well for himself.

Our government - probably the most corrupt government in the world now expects Elon Musk to share his wealth with South Africa. Unfortunately for them I think Musk is way too wise for them. He knows very well it’s way better to pay taxes and use his knowledge in the US - these local idiots would misuse and steal everything.

If I remember correctly I’ve seen a “how to test a CDI” video on YouTube but I never tried to do a similar test. I always carry a brand new CDI in stock just in case the CDI on my scooter packs up. The CDI’s are not that expensive and I believe all Agility owners should actually have an extra CDI in stock.

Considering the symptoms described at this thread I do not know whether the CDI test I’ve seen on YouTube will give a clear indication that any given CDI will be faulty or not. In this case the owner did get spark with the old CDI - but the engine still did not start..
Therefore I think Agility owners should rather forget about trying a CDI test - rather keep an extra CDI in stock at all times. It can easily make life a lot easier by using it as a “plug in an play” component.

Sorry to read that Scooterfan, but hope it all turns out well for you & yours.

Thanks, I spoke to my son about an hour ago and my daughter in law is perfectly well. She still have no taste or smell but she is up and running without further complications. Apparently she should be back at work on Wednesday.
The children an my son still have no symptoms, so we are very thankful.

Is there a test for the CDI and reg/rect that would show them faulty?

Good to see you got the scooter going.

Like I mentioned elsewhere - I am not sure but I think there is a possibility that a faulty Voltage Regular can cause CDI problems if the voltage output is too high. So maybe you must just use a Multimeter at the battery to see what voltage reading you get when the engine is running.

Card issued to my wife this morning after receiving 1st dose of vaccine.

2nd shot in 3 weeks.

Good luck !
My daughter in law in the US is a nurse in Altoona, near Des Moines IA. They get compulsory Covid tests twice a week at work and earlier during the week she has been tested positive twice. She had no symptoms and did not know that she has Covid - but since the tests she has lost her smell and taste only. We are worried about the grandchildren and my son but so far they do not have any symtoms. Since my daughter in laws’s tests my son decided to go for a test as well - but his test result was negative.
My son and daughter in law bought plane tickets to visit us less than two weeks ago. They were suppose to arrive on 8 January but since the positive Covid test the flight will have to be re-scheduled for a later date.
In the meanwhile we are just hoping and praying that everything will turn out well. This Covid thing is getting closer as what we were hoping for.

Air cooled engines warms up quite fast after a cold start so maybe the scooter just needs to warm up a little at idling speed before take off ?
How long does the motor needs to warm up before the problem disappear ?

P.S.  At another thread you also mentioned that the engine revved up quite high at 1/4 throttle so if that still happens I think this might be part of your problem.

Yes.
You probably don't get snowed in down there..... but if you did you might find a read-up on this stuff to be of interest.😊
Stig

Thanks, there is a possibility that I will move to an area which do get snow - therefore my question.
I already found some reading about this product elsewhere, so thanks for mentioning the product at this forum.
