General Discussion / Re: Would I Be Mad...

It's here. I managed to get a fair whack off the price in the end.

Not all of it is good, but a fair whack of it is.

Keeping in mind what's been said here about the parts being the same between the two bikes, I'll be checking them before I store them away.

Some of the plastics are OK, some not so good!

On the whole, though, I think it was a good move.

It's hidden out of sight behind the shed and she's pretty much forgotten about it already.

It has better rear shocks than mine, so I'll be nabbing those, and the wheels and the forks will be coming off. The seat seems a lot more plush as well, bizarrely.

If I can get it started up and running in the frame, and I can't see why it wouldn't, I know the engine and carb are good, and that's more squids in the bank :)

The front panel is a bit of a mess where it's been hotwired.

I'll take some pictures at the weekend and put them in the project thread!

Just been for a ride with the Maxxis on the front for the first time. The difference between the new tyre and the original Kenda is incredible. It leans into corners well, feels far more planted and there's far less vibration from the front end. I am very impressed!

"I don't think you're getting any power into the headlight/sidelight switch. I'd try to find the plug for that switch, which is most likely behind your front panel, and pop it apart for a clean. The best case scenario is that it just needs a scrub!"

So, for starters just pull the bulb, turn on the switch and see if you have power to the socket???

That's no what I meant. If we know the bulb is OK - which it is, because you're getting the flasher to work - I think the problem *could* be where your right hand switch gear (if you're sat on the bike) plugs into the main wiring loom. This is probably under the front panel, and often is a little 9x9 pin white block thing!

I can take a photo of my demonstrator if it helps, but it's not a Dink!

They don't have the SH300 in the US? It's a big model here!

It's not unusual if it's AC lighting - though I agree it's far from ideal.

How's the battery? Old or new? Start strongly?

That's pretty weird. You know it's not a bulb holder issue or a bad earth as all those connections share the bulb holder and earth.

The only thought I'm having is that it sounds most likely to be a switch problem. I've had a quick look at a Grand Dink on Youtube - is the high/low switch on the left, and the headlight/sidelight switch on the right?

I don't think you're getting any power into the headlight/sidelight switch. I'd try to find the plug for that switch, which is most likely behind your front panel, and pop it apart for a clean. The best case scenario is that it just needs a scrub!

or...  if topping up is a bad idea,  what about removing the damper rod bolt from the bottom, drain oil and fill up from top with fresh oil? I do have an impact wrench on loan,  so that might get the nut back on,  if it spins with hand tools? Or is this another lazy get-around,  that won't work?

I'd be tempted to go for an oil change in the way you say there; drain the oil from the bottom, replace from the top, I can't see why that'd be an issue :)

Morning!

A good, cheap, non-destructive place to start is with the roller weights. Install a set of the Dr. Pulley sliders (or something similar) that's mentioned so many times on this forum, and see if that gets you the difference you're looking for. I think you'd be surprised.

I'd be loath to mess around with the bike too much. It's much harder to get right with fuel injected bikes.

It will be an overpriced toy for those who will bring it out for the occasional weekend in the summer

I'm going to add this to the conversation. I have ride my scooter (Agility 50) at 45 Km/H downhill on some occasions. I will tell you that is not safe at all. The scooter is stable at that speed but you can tell that if it goes faster you won't feel safe the same way that you will with a bigger bike. That top speed is enough for that type of scooter.
This scooter was made for city life, to enjoy going around safely and at a medium speed.

It should feel stable though, especially as they made that bike with a 125cc motor for years as well.

How are your tyre pressures? They can make a huge difference :)

Hi!

So, just to clarify, if  you flash the pass light that works, but if the headlights are on at the headlight switch it doesn't work? Either high nor low beam?
