General Discussion / Re: Companies bought by Piaggio a slow death?

None of the companies they've bought have been all that financially stable. Gilera, Guzzi and the like weren't doing all that well, I don't think.

General Discussion / Re: New mowers ' never change oil, just top up?!

Having read all your experiences, I'm feeling inspired enough to try and change my oil again. I've got some leftover synthetic here from a past scooter so I'll chuck that in if I can get it nice and clean.

I rode some electric scooters at Intermot (German scooter trade show) back in 2015ish and remember thinking they were the future. It was awesome. Gliding along nearly silently with instant torque. It doesn't suit the riding I do, but they can't be that many years off managing a 60 mile ride!

My mower has a gorgeous Briggs & Stratton motor in it. That was a kerb find; sharpened the blades, installed an air filter, fitted a new pull cord, carb rebuild and it's been chugging away happily for a few years now.

The sump plug was seized solid though so I've only ever changed the oil by turning it upside down...

I'd have to say that the Agility 125 has to be in there with a shot - hundreds of thousands sold worldwide and built like a tank.

The ethanol in fuel isn't really a problem unless you're one of those people who leaves a car/bike standing for months on end, then it can go a bit iffy in the tank.

General Discussion / First Geared Bike in Years
« on: June 08, 2021, 11:54:32 AM »
Bought myself a Honda CB250 Nighthawk - some assembly required, a half-finished restoration project but with all the hard work already done.

Haven't ridden a geared bike in 5 or 6 years and I'm really looking forward to it.

My partner needs our car for her work, so I've got a motivating factor to actually get on with assembling it :)

If it's just one side panel you should be able to get away with it. Hopefully the bike runs and rides well when it turns up :)

I'd wait for it to arrive, then make an assessment in the flesh. It sounds like it should be sortable, though.

Even I had the Kendas swapped out, and I'm famously a cheapskate!

I live very close to Neil and have been shocking at arranging a ride out.

Though, in my defense, my C90 had a very short interlude between being MOTed and then catching fire last summer.

That is a cracking dealership. Been in there a few times and they're so helpful.

General Discussion / Re: UK Touring
« on: March 01, 2021, 09:46:01 AM »
It's a cool rally but the stages are quite generic - I've done quite a lot of that on a different trip in 2017 and 2018 - first attempt on a a Suzuki Address 110, second attempt on a Kymco Like 200i.

The UK has some fantastic riding; the difficulty is always trying to find a quiet route into South Wales and circumventing London on the way back down if you're moving clockwise around the UK.

I grew up in Cornwall so know those stages extremely well.

I'm not sure if you get them over in the states but the Honda SH150 modes are gorgeously proportioned and very well put together. We don't get any 150 stuff in this country :(
