I have a feeling we have another bike group in common. Are you on Bimblers?

OK, I'm worrying too much then. I know there should be some vibration, but in the past I've nudged the idle down (on carb scooters) and the clutch engagement has much improved. If there's no more adjustment, I'll just chalk it down to a quirk!

Bits and bobs today! Fitting a couple of switches, one of which will isolate the the heated grips, and the other will isolate the DRLs from the side lights, whoopee!

These are the switches used;

Used a 20mm drill bit, on the left side of the upper legshield to insert.

Here's a quick walkthrough of putting the switches in;

! No longer available

And then we turned to the DRLs at the front of the bike. That will follow a bit later...

Worked out how to embed Youtube vids!

Hi Big Blue,

Certainly worth a look.

Stig,

Thanks - I thought that might be the case. It has symptoms I'd usually associate with the tickover being too high - vibration when rear brake is pulled in at idle, which usually means that the tickover is too high and the clutch is engaging a touch. If it's not tickover related, perhaps I need to have a look at the clutch end of things instead!

Appreciate the replies.

Hah, I remember being berated for my copy of a Honda when I was a bit younger - the difference being that my "copy" had an electric start, DC lighting, heated grips and all those goodies that make winter commutes tolerable.

I try to take each bike on it's merits. I doubt we'll get the Like 150i in the UK. 150s aren't sold by anywhere it seems :(

It's quite interesting, as in the UK, anything by Piaggio is quite overpriced but we're able to get it tariff-free (for now) from the domestic Italian market, so it's not too bad if you're creative about it. The same is true of Peugeot.

Log on to EU eBay though, and you can get all you desire... if you can speak Italian  :-X

Morning! (For me, anyway)

I  just wanted to pick your collective brains. The idle is still a little too high on my Like, but the throttle stop screw is as far back as possible and has no more adjustment.

Is there somewhere else on the FI that allows me to adjust idle?

Thanks for your help!

Looks like a decent morning for a ride though, and I'm always struck by how immaculate your scooter is!

27/04/2018 - I've started archiving the project on an external page, to help me keep it better organised; chronological updates will of course still be provided here! http://deliverscoot.com/kymcolike200i

Hi!

I've needed somewhere to write a minor project thread, and this seems to be the most appropriate forum; please move the topic if I've got that wrong!

Last time I did an overhaul on a scooter, I didn't provide enough information, take enough pictures or record enough videos, and that's something I'm very keen to rectify this time around.

My Like 200i is back from the MOT (UK safety check) shop, with a reasonable bill of health. However, I'm off on a 2500 mile tour in June and want the bike sorted and ready to go. Unlike my previous ride, as this one didn't cost much, I'm not too worried about drilling holes in it and the like. So, with that in mind, here's the to-do list;

Mechanical/Frame/Suspension

  • Valve adjustment, inspect tappets and valves for undue wear
  • Check clutch condition (currently a bit "snaggy") and re-set idle which is currently too high
  • Replace rollers with the slider pieces type (generic) and new variator bushes (do you call them sliders?) from Dr. Pulley
  • Change gear oil
  • Centrestand and mounts - remove, clean, paint, grease, reassemble
  • Front wheel - remove, replace front bearings, regrease and reassemble
  • Speedo drive - remove, clean, grease, check cable condition In progress - all a bit rusty inside so stripped out and awaiting new grease and reassembly
  • Remove forks to check and grease head bearings if required (I hate head bearings)
  • Forks - check and clean seals, change oil, install gaitors if possible
  • Exhaust mount (axle) bracket - remove, clean, replace bearing, paint, reassemble Deemed unnecessary for now - may remove anyway to see if shock can be greased
  • Exhaust - remove, de-rust, remove and copper grease LAMBDA sensor threads, paint with VHT paint, reinstall In progress - LAMBDA sensor came free (hooray) but require other steps to be completed before I can reassemble, as the exhaust has been patched up with repair putty, sanded and repainted.
  • Rear shocks - remove, clean, grease (they squeak like nothing else!)

Electrical/Accessories

  • Install mini fuse box under front panel and aux loom so everying can be easily removed and returned to standard.
  • Horn - swap for two-tone ones that sound like a van so I can scare anybody I desire to
  • Install USB charger into glove box
  • Install direct-to-battery marine 12v socket near battery tray so I can trickle charge from the 12v socket from my shed's solar panel when it's parked up. Need a much bigger drill bit!
  • Install 12v marine power socket outside of glove box, higher up.
  • Install modified hand guards with integrated LED indicators to supplement standard turn signals In progress - handguards are being modified but need to be fitted and wired in.
  • Install elderly heated grips pinched from my old bike, installing the controller in the glove box to help it live longer
  • Add LED tail/turn lamp to underside of luggage rack in addition to standard tail/stop lamp In progress - need to make up a bracket and install cable gland above rear light for it to be permanently connected in
  • Install additional DRL side lights on the front, switched seperately from standard lights In progress - foam pads have been located to front panel but I can't work out how to get the big panel off - sunny day job for wiring everything up.
  • Make a bracket for a front flood and spot lights, install it without making everything look terrible

Pictures of the bike in it's current state (which isn't bad by any means) to follow, with additional pictures added for each task completed as I go along, with write ups.

People s200 / Re: Tires
« on: April 12, 2018, 12:14:59 PM »
From somebody who has put a few miles on Avon Vyper Strykes, there's a lot of better tyres out there for the money and they'd be right at the bottom of my list to fit.

Keeping in mind I don't know if any of these are available in your size;

~ I've used Michelin Street Pilots a lot and have been happy with the performance
~ Any tyres I've had from Metzeler have been perfectly acceptable
~ When I was a courier I was using Heidenau K66s for winter work (all-weather, but very fast wearing) and Michelin Street Pilots for summer work.
~ Early on in my bike riding life I used Duros a lot - hard wearing and nice chunky tread (HF903?) for scooters. I can't really remember much about them, but I'm going to go back to them fairly soon I think to try again.
~ Anything by IRC - wouldn't touch again with a barge pole
~ Anything by Maxxis? See Michelin Street Pilot, I liked these a lot too
~ Conti-go (Twists?) seemed nice and sticky but I didn't have them very long, which I regret now.

Anyway, hope this is of use to somebody and not just a rant... I've tried to keep it scooter-specific.

In the UK we also have Lexmoto, who are, in some months, the biggest motorcycle seller in the entire country.

They are mostly rebranded Senke, Wangye and Znen models, but it very much reinforces your point that it's more to do the with the dealer distribution and support.

LIKE 200i / Re: Dr Pulley Update
« on: April 12, 2018, 11:58:34 AM »
be careful on the variator you use.. I had install dr. pulley sliders into Malossi variator and it didn't work well for a long time.. In the beginning, everything was good but after 2000km sliders inside the variator turned and it stuck.. we opened the CVT, checked everything, installed it back properly and it happened again again.. Then i read somewhere that malossi variator and dr. pulley rollers can't work together.. I don't know but I just ordered one set for my kymco 100cc and will use stock variator

anyway, for those who feel any issue in transmission, just take a look on rollers first ;)

might be, or not, I dont know, I have only one experience with it, and it is with Bet&Win 250 engine ;)

Looking forward for other experiences :)

Thanks for the tip. I was planning to stick with the standard variator but replace the inner hardware; rollers and bushes.

The rollers I have at the moment seem to be working fine; I remember when riding 50cc 4-stoke Chinese scooters the amazing difference the right setup can make, however!

I'll report back when I've received them to fit :)
