LIKE 200i / Like 200i: Check oil before each ride 😧
« on: August 28, 2018, 11:26:09 PM »
My Like 200i owner's manual states to check the oil before each ride.  Is this really necessary?  Or does the engine burn oil to the extent that this is necessary?  I realize that it only takes a minute or two but I don't do this for any of my other bikes . . . .
Not really.  I do once a week and haven’t had to add a drop to mine (I have the new Like 150i). But my last scooter (Lance Havana 125) I had to top off quite often.  I say minimum once a week to start and get a gauge for how your bike is.  Haven’t heard of 200i’s needing oil.  On the flip side before I met my girlfriend, her old buddy like 125, she had owned it 3 years without so much as an oil change, she didn’t even know it took oil.  Still ran like a champ though.

LIKE 200i / Re: Break-in period for almost new scooter ???
« on: August 27, 2018, 02:18:17 PM »
The used 2016 Like 200i that I just bought only has 70 miles, so it would still be within its "break-in" period -- if it were a regular motorcycle.  I've looked thru the owner's manual but can't find any mention of it.  Do I just ride it like it has 10K miles?  Being a CVT, there is no way to keep the RPM down.

I'm assuming that there really is no "break-in" procedure, other than to get the oil(s) changed before 300 km (or miles?)

Break in is usually vary rpms as much as you can stop and go no more then half throttle for first 500 miles, change fluids then.  Then next 500 miles no more then 3/4 throttle.

I don't intend to take it on the interstate but I'm hoping it can haul me around on the back roads at 40-50 MPH -- that will be sufficient for me.   :)
Nice.  Should handle that like a breeze.

New member here,  I'm an old retired guy.  I've had many, many motorcycles -- I have 8 motorcycles right now.  Just agreed to purchase a very low mileage 2016 Like 200i, which I will pick up tomorrow.  This will be my first scooter.
Congrats!  Great scooter

Like,  "Taiwan. Yeah, my uncle was in Vietnam."

No, that's Thailand --- different place entirely.

read that someplace. ...

You know.  That’s very true.

Climbed off... (actually you 'step out of') my LIKE200i this morning at my coffee village and the town refuse men were working the cans on the street.
One fellow pointed at the LIKE and said,  "Nice scooter. Vespa ?"
I said , "No, Asian."
He asked, "Good value?"
Which I thought was a really good question!

And now, a German lady just looked it over, and gave me the Dickens for the Italian flag emblems on a scooter "which is clearly not Italian."
She also informed me that "German scooters are better", while her friend observed, "still, it's cute!"

So, as Meat Loaf  said -- "Two out of three ain't bad!"

Stig

I get asked a lot if my Like 150i is Italian and I can’t believe the dumbfounded look when I tell them it’s Taiwanese.  Not like surprised like wow that’s Taiwanese, more like what the hell is Taiwan?  So my new answer is no, it’s French Canadian.  Seems a lot easier

General Discussion / Crazy prices at dealer here in MN
« on: August 25, 2018, 03:22:40 PM »
No, no....all dealers add fees.
Some dealers sell at MSRP -  AND add the fees - like mine!-- some discount sticker and move a lot of them. I think these guys move a lot of bikes by lowering the tag price from MSRP....and maybe even move more late in the riding season. My Piaggio was nearly $1,000 more OTD....as expected.
Some "wave" certain fees - making you think they are great guys. Others mark down their sticker price - and leave the fees where they are.

As klaviator said - these are good prices - even with the normally added fees.
Nothing strange going on here. No conspiracy.

Stig
Yes this dealer heavily discounts.  Have known a couple people that have gotten very good deals here. They are in a distant suburb of Minneapolis and am sure they have trouble moving scooters because of that, but am sure they sell plenty of atv/utv

General Discussion / Like 150i vs Liberty vs Smax vs Hooligan
« on: August 24, 2018, 06:33:37 PM »
Thanks.  The Like is at the top of my list but I I like to look at all the options.  How does it do in curves?  Many scooter have limited cornering clearance.  That is one of the biggest issues I have with my Super 8.  I took it to Deals Gap and was grinding stuff too easily.
So far so good. Each time I take it out I gain more confidence in leaning it.  I have scraped once but it was some construction work on a driveway to a  coffee shop.  Definitely still more scooter then sport bike though, but I love how this thing handles.   Tires aren’t bad for CST (maxxis). But will replace with Michelin’s when they wear.
But do suspect the fuel tank being down there does take up some clearance

Some other thoughts.  This scooter will mostly be used to ride around town.  Any of these scooter will do that just fine.  I also will occasionally take this scooter to the mountains where I love twisty roads and tend to ride more like a sportbike rider than a scooter rider.  The Smax will handle this just fine but I'm not sure about the  others.

I will also go touring on this scooter.  I know some don't care about top speed but I do since it makes a difference on where I can comfortably ride it.  The Smax will go 70+.  The Hooligan just over 60.  I'm not sure yet about the Liberty and Like 150i.  The owner of Cleveland Moto claimed up to 71MPH for this scooter but I haven't seen any other reports.  I'm not sure about the Liberty either but I think maybe somewhere between 60 and 65 MPH.
Another guy on adv forum reported 70 mph as well

I can’t recommend the Like 150i enough.  Love it.  Plenty of power (rivals the Yamaha, really surprised me, just purrs at 50 mph, waiting to 1000 miles to do a top speed run, but 2 different people report hitting 70 mph, not that it’s a great freeway bike or anything) great fit (was really worried about this it first but am 6’ tall and find it very comfortable), underseat storage is amazingly huge, LED lights are so bright, the abs brakes are amazing, thing handles so well and of course can’t beat the price. I too was considering the Liberty 150 and was a very close call for me, but went with the new Like.

Was before I got my Kymco.  But middle of January in Minneapolis.  Usually get out at least once a month in winter.  Should be a lot less temperamental with fuel injection now

General Discussion / Re: Riding a light big-wheel scooter
« on: August 16, 2018, 09:16:54 PM »
After riding my big wheel Medley I don't think I could go back to a Like again as the ride difference is amazing.  Must admit though the Vespas that I have ridden may be small wheeled but are very good on the roads but I suppose for how much more they cost this is to be expected.
I really recommend if you get the chance to take the new Like out for a test spin.  If you asked me a month ago what scooter I was planning to buy I would’ve said Piaggio Liberty or Vespa sprint.  Wasn’t even gonna look at anything else.  But then just for the heck of it I took the Like 150i out and was blown away by how planted it feels.

The Benelli Cafereno 150
Also on the website says it’s chain drive?  Not sure if it’s a typo....

Well stopped at the dealer again and these are fuel injected.  So I took a closer look and the build quality looks really great.  Curious to find out the reliability of this “new” Benelli now.  I may have considered this scoot had they had it in stock when I got my 150i.  I like the big wheels, fuel injection, and the water cooling.  They also had the new Benelli motorcycles and they looked quite nice as well
