Xciting 500 / Re: Update 2007 X500

I also put some stuff in my tires called (Ride On). Much better than Slime. Seals better, never dry's out and balances the tires much better also. The ride is more smooth with the ride on, but if it helps with the MPG or not I do not know? I do know that they will run cooler, so I hope this helps with the tire life? It should also keep the tires from cupping! Sissy. P.S. Hoolander, I saw your pic's, my bike is the same color as yours.

Xciting 500 / Update 2007 X500
« on: May 07, 2010, 03:05:05 PM »
Just had 8,000 mile service on my 07 X500. Went with Ams oil synthetic and added Tuf Oil additive. Put on Shad SH45 box, and new Michilin gold standard touring tires, (much better ride than stock kenda's)! I average 55-57 miles per gallon at 65 miles per hour, (no joke, I am not kidding)! Bike is stock, original air filter, new NGK plug, oil and additive and thats it, nothing else has been done. I get this mileage solo or two up touring. I have no idea if the original owner changed carb jetting or not? But I could not be more happy. No Dr pullies, malossies, or after market exhaust for me. I ain't changing nothing! Tuf oil is in the Guennis (spelled wrong I know) book of word records as the most slippery substance known to man, it really works. I get 28-32 MPG at 60 MPH in my BIG Lincoln Contenental. Warning, Tuf oil can not be used where there is a wet clutch! Too slippery! Not for auto tran's in cars, or bikes that share engine oil with the tran's. X500 has dry clutch, so is ok. Also I put on 2009 seat, much better than high peaked 07 seat. I rode it 1,300 miles the first week I had it. I am absolutely in love with this scoot. Rode about 300 miles yesterday. Got home, took a shower, and went on a sales appointment and felt as if I had never been on the bike that day. Last bike beat me to death. Now planning long week ends and camping trips. ;D

Xciting 500 / 2007 xciting 500 update
« on: April 26, 2010, 05:16:00 PM »
:)Just had my 07 xciting 500 shipped in from south Ill to my home in Arizona, so I thouhgt I would let everyone know how it has worked out so far. It is the peach yellow color. Had 7,250 miles on it, and is in about as new condition as you can get. I road it about 200 miles over the week end, so here is what I think of it so far. I met the shipper at about 9PM, un loaded the bike and the battery was dead? Great. Jump started it, it fired right up, but when I tryed to give it gas to make it start to move it would just spit and die. The dealer I had bought it from said it had set all winter so I was not surprized, but it would have been nice if they had at least charged up the battery before it was picked up! I met the shipper in a home depot parking lot, so I was about 5-6 miles from home! Finally I started it and just let it idle for about 10 minutes. Then I pushed it a little, jumped on and road it around the parking lot for abour 10 minutes. It wanted to stall often, but I was able to keep it running. After the 10 minutes or so I stopped and low and behold it did not stall! So I took a chance and road it home, and had my wife drive me back to pick up the car. It took several minutes for it not to want to stall the next morning. Same thing the next morning also, but not as bad. Sunday morning it did not want to stall at all! So I guess the carb jet's cleaned themselves up by running it with new gas? I installed a new 2009/10 seat (much more comfortable) and away we go. It runs perfect, is quite, fast and I am getting about 50mpg. The ride is great, but I may get a Givi windshield for more protection? Yes the speedo is off by about 5-7 miles an hour, and I wish the MPH was in the large letters, not the small. And also the odometer should be in MPH not KPH? It is very comfortable, smooth, and handles freeway speeds as if it were nothing. It's like riding a gold wing as far as I am concerned. In short I love it, and you could not pry it out of my hands with a crow bar. The only problem I have found is that the oil light stays on? The oil dip stick says it is topped off full, so I guess it's just a stuck oil pressure sending unit. This seems to be a common problem according to the forum post. Sissy Mary.

Xciting 500 / Re: Tires, Jet, Laminar Lip.
« on: March 26, 2010, 06:15:08 PM »
Yes more air in the carb means more gas in the carb also, but with a carb it's real strange. I had a 1994 MZ 500 single (Rotax engine). The stock carb was a bing 33 millimeter CV unit. This I think is to small for a big single, but hey' it's a German bike ok? I replaced the very restictive paper filter with a K&N style unit, and left the side cover off as it pulled air in from the side (no worry about water getting in), and was located under the seat. The stock air inlet was very small (all do to noise restrictions I guess). I went up 2 jet sizes and gained about 5 mpg! I then put on a 40 mm Delorto carb and a less restrictive muffler. From stock carb & such to 40 mm carb, filter & muffler my freeway mileage went from low 30's to always over 50 mpg with OMG twice the power. I had a harley dresser years ago, put on a K&N filter, replaced stock 38 mm carb with SU Eliminator carb (about 44 mm), (same carb found on old jag sports cars), and went from mid to high 30's in MPG to over 50 MPG. Sometimes I even broke 60!!!! My theory is that, when the air velocity get's to a certian volume (meaning to much air for the small opening-hole to really handle), going through the carb's ventury / venturi. The gas starts to get sucked straight up from/through the float bowl into the ventury? I think to pass noise regulations manufactures have placed (under sized carbs) on their bikes? When the engine size is matched with the correct size carb & matching-free breathing filter & exhaust, the engine is allowed to run free, and therefore much better gas MPG and power? I will bet the carbed xciting 500's are under jetted if you will. I will bet that if I go up 1 or 2 jet sizes, put in at least a foam filter if not a K&N style, and a better breathing exhaust, that I can do better (in the MPG game) than the fuel injected units? But what do I know? After all im just a SISSY? :-*

Xciting 500 / Tires, Jet, Laminar Lip.
« on: March 24, 2010, 05:05:51 PM »
Just bought a 2007 xciting 500. What are the best or longest lasting touring tires out there for this scoot? What main jet size is best for touring and gas mileage. What is part number for a Laminar Lip? Also has anyone found out if K&N makes a filter for the 500? Thanks ahead of time. ;)

Xciting 500 / Bongoman info please
« on: July 19, 2009, 10:50:18 PM »
Bongman, I am 51 years old, and I think I have the same riding style/habits as you. I live in Arizona so you live in the heat also. I am thinking of buying a new 09 or 2010 xciting 500. Could you email me your phone # as I would like to pick your brain a little? If not I understand. If not I will post some questions on this site, but some insider info would be nice. I am trying to make up my mind if this is the bike for me or not? Khartung@juno.com  Anyone else who wants to tell about their x 500's, please feel free to do so on this site. I would really like to here more about your bike & what you think of it. Thanks ahead of time.

Xciting 500 / Gas mileage
« on: December 20, 2008, 11:42:18 PM »
I am very serious about purchasing a new xciting 500, but I have heard that the free way mileage is not very good. But know one ever says what they are getting? This concerns me due to the fact that the gas tank only holds 3.4 gallons. What do any of you get for mileage at around 75 mpg. And what rpm's are you at, at this speed? I am looking at the fuel injected 2009 model, but anyone who has a xciting 500 can feel free to answer fuel injected or carbed. Also some people say they can do over 100 mph, and some people say the bike tap's out at 85 mph? What gives? All I do is tour. So if the bike only get's 40 or so mpg, and or can only do 85 maxed out with nothing left to pass trucks and so at these speeds, then I need to look else where. I test road a new yamaha tmax, and oh my God this bike was fast, and before I knew it I was doing 90 mph with alot of throttle left. I am leaning toward the kymco, but if the bike is under powered, then I may need to look else where. Also, are the speedo's really off as far as some people say? Thank you in advance.
