Downtown 300 / Re: New Kymco 350 improvements
« on: March 22, 2025, 01:27:56 PM »
The 2nd gen Downtown 350 has a remapped ECU, traction control and a better smart dash with Noodoe.

I can't comment on the quality of the suspension or seat etc, it does look the same.

Downtown 300 / Re: Weird transmission oil colour

There might be a breather hose from the transmission to the air box, make sure it's not leaking which could let water in.

« on: November 27, 2024, 11:34:16 AM »
I had the same issue as well years ago, the 19mm nut holding the drive pulley came off and the loose drive pulley grinded the splines on the crankshaft. Fortunately the bike lasted until 80,000km or so, then I got the 2nd gen Downtown which I still ride today.

Note: put threadlock on the drive pulley nut and torque to spec. No issues since.

Downtown 300 / Re: Downtown GT 2024 air filter box intake design problem
« on: November 09, 2024, 11:22:19 PM »
This is definitely an oversight by Kymco. They have been putting the air intake at the front for years, why did they change it.

I've also noticed there isn't a fender or mud guard that covers the top of the actual rear wheel, which should sit very close to the tyre surface. See the photo attached for the 2nd gen Kymco Dowtown 350i, which has this design to stop water being splashed forward and a hidden air intake on the top left of the air box cover to prevent water ingestion.

I think this will be an ongoing problem unless you are willing to modify the airbox (cover only) yourself. Maybe block off the rear vents, drill some extra drain holes and cut an intake in the front. This may affect warranty but simply replace the cover with an original one when required.

General Discussion / Re: Tyres for DTX360
« on: November 09, 2024, 11:08:34 PM »
Glad to hear good things about the Michelin City Grip 2 tires. I only have about 2000 miles on the stock Kendras on my People S 150, but want the best rain tires I can get. I get real nervous riding in the rain, and I understand the City Grip 2 is the go-to tire for wet weather.

Pirelli Diablos or Pirelli Diablo Rossos. The best tyres I've had for rain for 10 years, I just ride very similar to dry weather.

Tested like this? Screenshot from the service manual. If it's truly faulty the bike won't run.

Might be easier just to replace the whole ignition coil.

Definitely too much, even for the time before inflation.

Looks like they changed the design from the more common sliders on the ramp plate to pins which would slide inside the cylindrical metal holes (and bushings) on the variator.

Also your photo shows a roller with a very worn flat spot, more than enough reason to replace the rollers soon. They can get stuck and cause all kinds of issues.

Technical | How To / Re: Does voltage matter on glass fuses?
« on: June 18, 2024, 02:06:20 AM »
The voltage is simply the maximum rating for the fuse. 32V is fine and you will still find 250V fuses in automotive applications such as DC-DC chargers and inverters etc.

It's ok to go a bit higher with current (amp) ratings. Fuses never blow at the exact amps they are rated for, it just varies the time to blow.

Technical | How To / Re: ABS light
« on: June 18, 2024, 02:01:41 AM »
This is normal and indicates that the ABS is working.

If the light stays on when riding then there is a fault, most commonly the wheel speed sensor and rarely the ABS module.

Technical | How To / Re: DTX360 (320cc) Oil Change
« on: June 06, 2024, 01:32:06 PM »
This is the correct procedure and the photos are helpful.

The engine is identical to the Downtown 350i but the 350i specifies 1.3L oil capacity. Unknown why Kymco made the change but the engine is not too fussy as long as you do regular oil changes and check levels regularly as I believe dilution with fuel is still an issue.

The oil drain bolt is 17mm and oil filter cap is 24mm for reference.

I get my new genuine parts from https://www.bike-parts-kymco.uk/kymco-motorcycle. The deliver from the Netherlands which is 2-3 weeks.

You might also have luck locally on eBay or Gumtree or Facebook marketplace, there could be a wrecking Downtown somewhere, just ask the sellers. I've been lucky a few times for used parts and it saved me hundreds.

Have you tried a ceramic coating, like Turtlewax? I did this to my car and the water just beads right off.

Dean

1st is making sure the plastic visor is extremely clean, water will bead off even without any coatings because of the cleanliness. Tiny microscopic scratches from dirt or sunlight breakdown will hold water, so get a new visor if necessary.

2nd is to use a ceramic coat to repel water as suggested above. Ceramic will last longer than wax alone and you can apply many layers to increase the water-repelling effect.

Products such as Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic etc work well.

Downtown 300 / Re: DT 300 Battery warning light, bad rectifier?
« on: December 25, 2023, 03:00:23 PM »
Hola amigos!

Just wanted to post an update on my issue. Good news; it seems to be resolved!, I have been using the generic 20 amp rectifier and battery is charging without issues, so that's good!

Bad news; new problem appeared and I'm not sure what it is. When I was putting everything back together I plugged my underseat led light and it didn't worked, the cables were really hot and I unplugged it, I think the light was shorted.

Just after that, the met-in red light from the dashboard stopped working and the check engine light.. is not on, it's more like slightly illuminated.. it gets a bit more stronger when accelerating, it doesn't turn on completely, it is just a very dim yellow light only noticeable during nighttime, but I think something is not working ok there.. also I noticed that my blinkers seem to varies their speed with the engine idle, they get faster when I accelerate.

I think I might have introduced some kind of electrical problem, but hey, the battery is charging perfectly!!

Thanks for your help guys!!

I think the underseat light is shorted, maybe a pinched wire during installation.

Hard to say but the first step is to measure the voltage output of the regulator. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the battery at idle and acceleration, should not be more than 14.5V.

Voltages too high or low can cause weird issues.

30 psi sounds about right. 40 is too high. What brand are the tyres, this has a huge effect on what pressures to run and handling.
