OK, ok... as per popular vote  I'll move on with the BV 8)
Have to act fast, before the 'Bikes for beef tariff' becomes reality and the Piaggio's double in price.

@de dee  I am not seeing that insane incentive. In Canada I am seeing $400 off which would make the total about $6000 and the NY dealerships only show a special financing rate. Stig is probably right, you must have stolen yours.

(Hey, that was my 100th post!)

You could also check by feeling out if the starter is cranking slower than usual, or if the old battery looks either swollen or 'shrunk'. Finally, a battery conductance tester should give you the truth.

Doesn't the like have a kick start? If yes, I'd wait until the old battery is dead.

Thanks for all the comments!

@PaulF The Sym HD200 has
a) A sometimes failing thermostat, which leads to cooling not kicking in, overheating engine, blown head gasket
b) Issues with leaking gas because of a not sealing gas cap. Seems because the plastic gas tank deforms.

@ole two wheels The DT300 is not my style. Also it's even longer than the People

@Tromper Come on - no way the HD is about as quick as the People. Maybe the intersection take-off (which the people wasn't that great at), but right after... nope.
The Burgman 400, just as the Downtown, is not my style. And it's huge - 6 inches longer, 120 pounds heavier than the People.

And as @Stig mentioned the price tag makes dizzy. The low seat height combined with the overall length does make it feel like a rolling couch. lol. Other than that it's probably a great machine.

@Redk I have no hopes of recovering it. Those where professionals. Two people on a scooter or motorcycle. Did their research before stealing. Took them about 20 seconds to unlock my scooter. Unfortunately, the camera footage does not reveal any useful details beyond that.

@AMAC1680 Was that a newer Blur with the overheating issue? I am not planning on longer highway rides, but need reliability going 70mph for about 15 miles

@CROSSBOLT oh no - did your insurance even give you a penny for a 'vandalized' scooter?

Generally. At the moment I have 20 mi on the hwy with about 5 slow miles, and some time in the city. Also I stay off the hwy after dark because of the increased percentage of blind and brain-dead drivers.
I have no issues riding a big bike, but pushing 400 pounds onto the sidewalk, over the lawn or up a ramp is kind of painful. Also it makes squeezing by standing cars almost impossible and stop and go traffic is harder to manage. Yes, maybe the large wheels contribute, but balancing a scooter is harder than a motorcycle anyway because the knees cannot be used to keep the thing straight.
Btw - whoever experienced the roads around Boston will wish for 30inch tires. Maybe more.
So yes, it's difficult. I am looking for agility & speed, urban warfare & highway comfort.
Many of you recommend the Piaggio BV, so maybe that's what I should go for. Still wondering though if the Blur 220 is a viable option as well.
sigh...

General Discussion / Scooter stolen. Good bye Kymco?

Hi folks,

I have been with this forum for quite a while now and must say that it is a great place for all Kymco owners and those who want to become one.
But my time here might be coming to an end/interruption. Reason: My People GT 300i got stolen two weeks ago downtown Boston.

Anger and financial loss aside, I am now in desperate need of a new ride. What to get next?
There are not a lot of options in the larger displacement category out there.

Another People 300? While fun when riding fast, it always felt chunky when going slow in traffic or pushing it on the lawn, sidewalk etc. Also, the jerky clutch issue was driving me nuts (didn't have time to take care of it).
Biggest thing though is that I feel that there is bad luck on this model now. I don't want the thieves to chuckle because there's a second chance for the same sweet ride.

A SYM HD 200? I rode it and it was great, but it has some issues that are far worse than a jerky clutch. And 170cc is a bit meh on the highway.

A Genuine Blur 220i? I never rode it, but it doesn't seem to have major flaws. At 220cc it should be lighter weight that the People, yet fast enough for a little highway ride @70. Any experience anyone?

Last but not least: Piaggio Beverly 350. Yes, it is even a few pounds more than the Kymco. But shorter. And faster. And it looks sooo good! And if I can believe the reviews it's a blast to ride.

What do you think?

Ah yes, here's my stolen People 300i. If someone comes across a suspicious listing, I'd appreciate a note:
2014 Kymco People GT 300i
Color: Black
Odometer: 3,300 +
Stolen: August 8, 2017 Leather District Boston
VIN: RFBBFM299EB160550
It looked almost new, but there where some Velcro stickers above the headlight area to protect the body from windshield damage (windshield was off). Maybe they leave markings when taken off. On the rear fender under the number plate there where also four round Velcro stickers.

The one cool thing I am getting out of this theft is that I have seen the Odo of my "grandpa" 2008 Agility 125 passing the 30,000 mark...

So I picked up a 2014 People 300i this weekend. Registered it today and went on 1st ride. Wohooo! Had no idea there was something like acceleration beyond 45mph  ;D

Sorry mrmike, I was too impatient. But I am sure you'll easily find a buyer this spring. As far as the price goes. I'd roughly stick to what KBB suggests. http://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/kymco/people-gt-300i/2012/?pricetype=retail. $2,875 at the moment. Maybe you can bump it up a little with the windshield, top box and GPS. Helmets are most likely not adding any value.

Yes, maybe a bit goofy. But still better than the trouble with finding parking (and paying for it).
My eyeball might have been frozen a few times  ;D but that wasn't as bad as once when I got into sub zero temps. Finger frostbite was in my fingers for a few weeks after. Ugly memory, have to think of a nice hot summer day right now...

The maual says 'turn the cam chain tensioner screw clockwise to tighten it'
Sounds weird, I know.
The image shows what it looks like from the top: An upper ring with grooves and a seal around it and a regular screw beneath it.
Well, I will try my luck again one of these days.

Wow, Syracuse is next to the Finger Lakes. Quite a ride from Boston, but I could make it a 1/2 wine tasting weekend.
As for timing, spring might be a little late. I am riding my scooter any day above ~10 degrees and when there's no ice or snow on the road. I would really like to have a more comfortable ride for this winter already.
Guess I will throw my scooter on the market this week and see how it goes. I can post here when I have updates.

Actually everything is leaking. Memory, wallet, ... even time it seems.
With the scooter I also had the problem that my front valve was bad. Two times this summer my front tire was half flat in the evening.
The ride to the gas station was very interesting. Did you ever ride a scooter with half flat tire? It's ridiculous. Almost uncontrollable. Equivalent to drinking a bottle of Vodka I imagine. Pretty scary actually.

Just a remark: A tire is loosing air because something is not 100% tight.
Osmosis is the process of a lower concentrated liquid floating through a semi permeable membrane to a higher concentrated liquid.
Just sayin' ;)

As for the air loss I have never found a reliable pattern. Sometimes the pressure would keep up for months, other times it goes down within a few days. That mostly seems to happen though when the temperature changes. I am now checking regularly every 2-3 weeks and after every big temp change, and when the bike stood in the sun for a while. Also 'squeezing' the wheel with the foot ahead of any ride gives me an idea if it's time again for a check.

Cheers,
E.

Ok, so I did get that cover screw off but now I am wondering what to do next.
The manual says that I should tighten the tensioner screw, but there's this outer ring with grooves and a screw beneath.
Does anyone know which one I need to turn? See attached photos from manual and scooter.

Thanks,
E.

Hi,

My scoot (2009 Agility 125)  is having low compression and the issue points to the valves.
The scooter still runs fine, but is missing the 'oomph' that it used to have.
Unfortunately it seems impossible to just buy valve stems and seals, so I want to try my luck with doing some valve grinding.

Aside from welcoming general input I am having the issue that I cannot seem to remove that screw on the cam chain tensioner. It is now resting, soaked in pb blast, but in case that doesn't help - do I even need to touch that thing in order to remove the camshaft etc?

For the valve grinding I was planning to do something like this guy here: but without gluing anything to the valves.

Thanks,
E.

Thanks for the tip, souzamoto, that worked!
Just too bad that I still cannot find the parts anywhere  :'(
