Hi guys, I need a recommendation for a quality all weather cover to go over my GT300i and keep it dry and clean. I've tried several covers including Oxgord, Budge (the one Walmart carries for $45),etc. The Oxgord shredded in 8 months. The others were merely water-repellent and not waterproof. I'm in Tampa Bay, so rainy season is beginning soon and my shredded Oxgord covered in duct tape is simply not going to cut it. I'm looking for a cover that's effectively waterproof and going to last a couple of years. Also needs grommets for tie-down. Breathable pouches nice too. Heat resistant panels nice too. Thanks for recommendations.

As to the handlebar cover... the 'tool' that I found to be helpful to ease the clips open on my LIKE200I was a round pizza cutter. Lift panel with cutter and squeeze other panel and separate. Thin cake knife also works.....spreads out the prying force to prevent panel from chipping.

I had the need to replace my GT300's headlight bulb. The pizza cutter was miraculous and works like a charm to separate the mated plastic panels, in this case rear/front handle bar covers. Get the heavy duty Faberware jumbo-pizza cutter and not the flimsy Walmart brand cutter. Careful with the tabs though. I broke one off on the bottom the rear handle bar cover. No biggie. Still have the screws to keep it in place.

It is not unusual to lose that much pressure over a month or even less. I could be wrong but it sounds like you are running pressures higher than recommended.  The higher pressure will "squeeze" air out more rapidly until it gets a little closer to the atmospheric  pressure. I try to check mine once a week and it seems I usually put a couple of pounds in. In my experience new tires seem to leak the most.

Thanks MP. You are right about the tire pressure being too high. I checked the service manual on cyclepedia, and for solo riding it should be 25.4 psi for both front and rear tires. For two riders the spec is 29 front 32 rear. Thanks for the heads up.

I've got a GT300i with Pirellis front and rear. Does anyone know the typical tire deflation rate through osmosis when the tire does not have a hole or defect? I ride my bike several times per week at a minimum. I check the tire pressure monthly or more often and have noticed that it drops several PSI. I air both front and rear to 34 PSI. Thanks guys.

Here's the video I made. The coolant change was very successful.

Is there a bleeder valve/screw?

Yes, there's a bleeder screw. Can that step in the process, the opening of the bleeder screw, be omitted? Have to take the seat off for that.

Send me your email and I will get you detailed instructions.

People GT 300i / Re: How much gas do I have left when ....
« on: July 01, 2016, 05:18:44 PM »
With the 300, the bar that goes across the center prevents me from putting in the nozzle and waiting for it to click off. I have to go real slow with the fuel nozzle and check and check and check and check to make sure it's close to, but not over, that dreaded bar.

I still have the bar in the gas tank, but what I've found is that I can push the gas pump nozzle to the right of the bar and at an angle and keep an eye on the fuel level on the left side of the bar. I watch the tank fill until the gas touches the bottom of the bar. It's not so bad once you get used to the routine.

I inspected my coolant levels today. Nothing in the reserve reservoir. No coolant visible when removing the radiator cap. Could there be a leak? Or did the Kymco dealership simply overlook the coolant in their inspection they did a few months ago? Anyway...I'd like to replace the coolant and then monitor the levels for leaks.

Has anyone on the forum replaced their GT300i coolant? What is the capacity of the system? How much coolant do you need when replacing? Tips on flushing the system? Tips on bleeding air from the system? The service manual seems to provide a fairly detailed description, but I want to make sure I don't miss anything. I'd like to get it right the first time.

I read on the forum that Pro Honda HP coolant is a good choice. There's a Honda bike dealer up the road selling it for $31.80/gal.

Thanks guys.

I did a couple of videos on mounting a Garmin on my GT300i.

People GT 300i / Cleaning the exterior of the engine

What's the best way to clean oil deposits, grit and dirt that has built up on the exterior of the engine? When I took the seat bucket off my 2012 GT300i, I could see oily grit built up in places. Do I use low-pressure spray at a car wash? Brake cleaner/degreaser in a spray can? What's the best way to do this without damaging any systems? Thanks.

Thanks crossbolt and tortoise! I like to shoot videos to help out other who have questions.

Actually, after some more testing, turns out the start problem is in the left brake light switch. I was finally able to track it down by testing the brake light illumination on EVERY attempted start. I had a feeling it wasn't the starter relay, so I kept testing. Now the dealer has THAT part on order.

But still having problems with getting the plastics off. I went to take the rear handlebar cover/instrument cluster off, got all the fasteners off + mirrors off, then was stumped when it came to disconnecting the tabs that mate the front/rear handlebar covers. I poked with screwdrivers, etc, tried prying, twisting, etc but no go.

Will those tools you mentioned be of assistance?

Thanks, guys, for responding.

I've got a starter issue on my People GT300i. Unfortunately it's intermittent happening about 10% of attempted starts, so hard to isolate and pinpoint the issue. The Kymco dealer recommended a new starter relay, so rather than being stranded somewhere and calling AAA for a tow, I'm going to buy the $40 new part. I want to install it myself to save $30 and because I like working on the bike.

Having done extensive work on a Chinese bike, I thought I'd be up to the job. But the Kymco service manuals suck. I have both the printed one from Cyclepedia and a PDF from kymcousa.com. They're about the same. Lacking, vague and sometimes useless.

The starter relay is located on the right side of the bike just below the front of the seat. To access it I have to remove the body panels. I got these items off: trunk, rear carrier rack, seat bucket, seat and rear access panel above the brake light assembly. The videos are posted on youtube: , etc.

Then when I got to the body panels, I got stuck. I couldn't get the rear splash guard off, and that's where I stopped filming.

Is there anyone who has done this and who can walk me through step-by-step on how to remove the body panels so I can access the starter relay? Thanks in advance for your help. I searched this forum and also youtube for answers, but found nothing specific to the GT300i.
