Super 8 150 / Long term storage question
« on: September 06, 2016, 08:01:50 PM »
Hello Other Super 8 owners,

I am new to the scooter world and to this forum (see into post here http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=23431.0 )

So I was reading through the manual and it talks about things to do for long term storage. Drain gas, change oil, pull out battery, etc. Do people really do this? Is this something that needs to be done?

I have not had to do this with my cars. For example, I own a corvette which also goes into hibernation during the winter/rainy months for maybe about 3 months or so. Other than hook it up to a battery tender, I have never had to anything else. I have already hard wired a battery tender to the scooter and can quickly plug/unplug as needed.

For those people that go for a long period of time without riding the scooter:

-   Did you do the rest of the steps onlined in the manual?
-   If not, did your scooter run into any issues because you didn’t?

Thanks in advance…

With a 150 do you need a license in CA, or just a permit?

Apparently anything over 50cc you need a motorcycle license here. You can get away with a permit but it is only good for 1 year.

Hello Kymco Forum,

My name is Jason from California. I just picked up a used 2015 Kymco Super8 150 with 1200 miles. I am actually new to the scooter world. My wife and I were vacationing in Denver, CO and we rented scooters (Kymco People 50) to check out the sites. It was so much fun that when we got back home I told her I wanted one. We were ready to buy new (a couple of Buddy 125's) but held off a bit to try to find something used. Found many cheap one out there (the ones from China) and some super expensive ones (Vespa) so I did a ton of research to make sure we picked up quality scooters.

The first one I bought was a used 2013 Lance Havana Classic 125cc with 1300 miles. Rode that for about 2 weeks while I searched for another one. Was not having too much luck and once again I was ready to pull the trigger on a new Buddy 125. I was actually heading to the Buddy dealer today when I decided to give another dealer a call who just happened to have a used Kymco.  Stopped by and BAM. Practically new 2015 Kymco Super8 150 with 1200 miles with windshield and SHAD top case. My wife says it is not as "cute" as the Buddy or Lance with it sharp lines but I like it. It was also serendipitous that the color scheme of the scooter matched my 10 year old helmet.

After all was said and done, the cost of the 2 used scooters was just about the same as the cost of 1 new Buddy 125. Pretty happy with our purchase and I hope to learn more on this forum.
