Super 9 / GT300i (or similar) Travels
« on: November 06, 2016, 09:51:32 PM »
I have not done any traveling on my gt300i. In fact, I figured it would be my around town bike and my Triumph Explorer would continue to be my long distance traveler. But in the couple months I've owned the the 300i I have learned enough about its capabilities to figure out that if you wanted to take a trip this bike could do the job.

So, here's my question...How far have you gone on your 300i (or similar)? Pictures?

Super 9 / Re: Spare wire from battery
« on: November 06, 2016, 09:34:11 PM »
Hey Butch,

It is the battery tender connector. I have the exact same one on my gt300i and it works perfectly well for keeping the battery charged. I wonder if the "clicking" is from an almost dead battery. Maybe get yourself a good battery charger/tender (mine from Harley-Davidson works great) and hook that puppy up for a day or two to see if you get a green light on the tender.

That is a beautiful bike! I have always like the Bonnevilles styling.

I had never ridden a Bonneville (or any "standard" bike) until my Triumph dealer lent me a Bonneville to ride in this year's Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride. Kinda cool but not my favorite style of motorcycle from an ergo point of view. It really is a classic along the same lines as the Harley Road King Classic, but in a totally different category. Identifiable "classic styles" much like a Vespa.

Wow! So just with auto snows on the back and your "custom" studded bike tires on the front? On that snow covered road could you keep up with car/truck traffic?

If the wallet and wifey allow, everyone that owns a touring bike 1000cc's and larger should have a 300cc or less scooter. Never having owned one until I bought my gt300i, I didn't know what I was missing. Coffee shop runs just down the street are more enjoyable. Heading up to the hardware store/Home Depot just to look around is far more frequent as is the excuse just to get on it and go anywhere. Still love the big bike for longer distance scouting, but the scooter added another dimension.

Wow! That is a small bike for a big guy. But, hey, if you're having fun with it it's the perfect size.

First off the line is rarely your safest choice. But if there's a good lookin' gal nearby..... ;)

Back to the OP...Going to have to figure my own personal "Coffee Tour". I like the independent shops when I can find them, but can only think of a couple I would call semi-regular stops. Hmmmm, gonna have to pay more attention.

I ride year round in all temps UNLESS there is a chance of frozen precipitation on the roads. Down here in Ga. snow is always accompanied by  a nice under-layer of ice.

Especially where there are shadows on the road....the places where black ice lurks waiting for an unsuspecting PTW, car, or truck.

Yeah, snow and touring bikes/tires is way beyond my skill set. When I had my KLR650 I went out in the snow on a two track near me. A lot like light gravel on pavement; easy to lose it if not paying close attention. The tires are the thing.

Then again, as stated previously, the black ice is more of an issue (IMO) than just plain old snow. Snow/ice and PTWs are not made for a simple day ride. But if you set-up your bike right...

If the roads are clean, there is a small or zero chance of black ice, I can get up and down the driveway (sometimes after shoveling a two foot wide path), AND the weather is clear, there is a chance I would on the road. My wife took this picture of my BMW C650GT after a snow storm thinking I was heading out (I wasn't...on this particular day).

Chagrin Falls (wherever that is).

Ha...Ohio.

As far as where and on what, I have too many places I've flown over in the US that I never visited, so would stay stateside initially. Haven't toured with my gt300i so can't comment on long distance comfort for an old guy my size. Day dreaming about visiting small town USA via the back roads sure leads me toward my 300i, but if that didn't work I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the BMW C650GT. A super comfortable touring bike.

Probably vegan, 5' tall and 110 pounds. Probably needs an icon of personal empowerment.
