Downtown 300 / Re: Shaking at idle
« on: March 24, 2019, 09:40:36 PM »
1500 rpm idle is a bit slow (1700 is normal) Try increasing idle speed a smidge to see if you have a resonance that goes away at a higher idle speed. On the center stand It's OK for the rear wheel to turn a bit at idle, as long as the bike doesn't want to move when you are on it and stopped at a light. You should be able to sit on it and not feel it trying to move when stopped, ie, not need the brake to keep it stopped.

Mine wants to move forward when stopped if I don't have my brake on. What do I need to check or replace to get it to not do that anymore? It has a pretty new belt, so maybe rollers? It is quite annoying and makes it pretty difficult to back up.

And any idea about the LED I asked for? ;)

Are you talking about the round ring of LED lights around the main lights? If so, I too would love to know how to replace one since one has been out for a while.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll pick up some new rollers and see how it goes.

I believe stock was 14g? Also you recommend just regular rollers as opposed to sliders?

Downtown 300 / Which sliders/rollers should I get?

When I first got my 2011 Kymco, I put in some sliders and they have worked great! Fast-forward a year or 2 I ended up needing to replace the variator. However, due to the years, they didn't make the 2011 variator I had anymore so had to get the newer version. However, with the newer version I have read that you don't need to use sliders anymore as it is more aggressive/steep than the original. I have noticed that with the same sliders, I get some weird issues when at top speed, like the CVT keeps going in and out. Not sure how to describe it.

My question is should I replace the sliders with rollers? Also, which would give me most top speed? I use to be more city and loved having the fast acceleration I have currently, but now live further out and need to have more reliability at top speed on the highway. Any suggestions or ideas is appreciated. Thank you!

Sounds like an issue I had a while back. Turned out my spark plug cable was coming loose and that’s all it was.

In km I am at about 58,000 km. What are signs of a regulator failure? Also, occasionally, but pretty rarely, my speedometer would not work as I am riding, showing just 0 mph sometimes but then working suddenly again. Is this the speedometer cable issue some of you mentioned?

From reading here sounds like I can get many more miles out of it if I keep taking care of it.

I’m curious. We are about to move and we have been debating whether to sell my downtown 300i 2011 and buy something else when we get where we are going or take it with us.

It currently has over 36,000 miles on it. I’ve done good maintenance etc but don’t know how much longer I should expect it to run? How many miles have you guys gotten out of your downtown 300i before it gave out on you?

I am thinking I might at least move up to 15g sliders. Right now I get about 5000rpm cruising at 20mph and that seems pretty high. I want to keep some of the acceleration but I want to also lower the RPMs as I do a lot of slower driving through neighborhoods, etc. Would the move to 15g accomplish this goal? Or would going to 16g be fine without losing the good acceleration I have? I am just not sure if always riding with high RPM's is the best thing to do for the engine.

Also, are there any recommendations of grease or anything for he sliders to help them be smoother? I checked my variation today to see how things looked and the sliders and variator already have some wear on them which concerns me since everything was brand new.

Downtown 300 / Re: Seat Stuck Locked
« on: March 13, 2017, 12:55:31 AM »
you will have to take the front off, so you can see the ignition switch, you will see the cable on the right hand side one screw holding it,  pull on that to release the seat

I can reach my hand under there and pull on the cable without taking off the front end. I mentioned that in my post. It use to work when I had it stuck before but now nothing I am trying is working.

When one of my seat catches was 'sticking', I found that it didn't need adjusting, it just needed some lubrication and it worked perfectly after that.

So if you can get a plastic straw and a can of WD40 and perhaps get it in the area of the sticking seat catch, a quick squirt might save you a bit of work.

I have tried that. I think there should be something else I can do or take apart so I can directly access another way to unlock it. I imagine I might have to do a lot of work to get it done but it is something I need done.

My seat is stuck in the locked position. Turning the key to unlock it I can only get the back left sight to unlatch but not the right. I use to be able to reach my hand under the front end and pull on the cable by the ignition while having the key turned and it would pop it open, but now that doesn't even work.

I feel like I will have to do some disassembly or something to get the seat open because it is a pain not being able to use that space anymore. What do I need to do to get the latch undone and adjusted so I don't have this issue anymore?

Thanks!

Downtown 300 / Re: Another Busted Belt after 4K miles
« on: March 10, 2017, 05:46:38 PM »
I have 30,600 miles on my downtown right now and just recently had to replace my variator as my old one was worn. Before replacing it I did go through a few belts in what seemed to be not many miles. Now it runs like new again and I love it.

So I took it on the highway today and didn't mind the RPM's at highway speed. About 7500rpm at 80mph indicated. Not sure if heavier weights would allow the rpms to be a little lower at that speed or not. I think previously it was a little over 7000 at about 75?mph when I first got the scooter.

So a while back when a belt broke I decided to order some new Dr. Pulley sliders since the old ones I had were getting worn and thought that might have been why I was having belt issues. I ordered the same size/weight that was already on the Scooter when I bought it as it seemed to work just fine.

Fast forward a bit, it turned out my whole variator was worn out so I had to order a new one. Unfortunately I have a 2011 Kymco and they don't make the LEA7 Variator anymore as the next year they had a new model of Variator LGE5? So thinking I was getting the same variator I get it in the mail and try to get everything together, however since the Variator was different my face ramp for the variator that was on the old version didn't fit. So a few more weeks go by and I get the new face ramp for the variator.

Finally get everything together and the scooter sounds better than ever and I was so excited to finally have my scooter running again. However, now it takes off like a bullet bike. WOT has the RPM's pushing 8000. With how high the RPM's around town are I have yet to see how it does highway speeds of 75mph +. I am sure it is because I am using the Sliders (14g I believe) that I ordered based off the old variator but now need to get a different weight with the new variator. Even with a passenger (I weight about 280 and a passenger at 160) it takes off super quick. I would like some ideas on what weight I should replace the sliders with. I like WOT to be 6500 or so, not pushing 8000. For the updated variator should I still use Sliders or are normal rollers going to work just fine? Thanks for any and all help.

So I ordered a new part, but apparently it can only come in the LGE5 and not LEA7. Would the LGE5 Variator work fine in my scooter?
