That is great to hear! £18 does not sound too bad, what'that, about $30US? Universal means china?

18 euros is about 20 us
Yes, Chinese (probably)

Bad stator or failed regulator-rectifier.

It was the rectifier. Changed it for a € 18,- universal one and all works fine; the battery doesn't discharge anymore.

The battery of my X (2006) is discharging in less than 2 days. I changed the battery a couple of times.

What could this problem be other than a bad battery?

I don't see the point in having a race variator if you plan to alter it that much.
Maybe you're better off with DrPulley sliders? I have some 2822's here who have barely been used. PM me if you 're interested.

Sissy, I made a calculation mistake. It's about About 140 miles on one tank (12,5 liters).

The Malossi and JCosta both use the same trick and that is that they are at the engines optimal torque. On average that is 1000 rpm above standard setup.
I do not have the impression that the engines suffer but more rpm is obviously more wear.
The Tmax sounds much more nervous though. I may change it to a Malossi in the future.

I have a Malossi Multivar 2000 on my Xciting (carb, 2006) for the last 25.000 miles (about 5 years I think). I changed the belt once just to be sure. It works flawlessly so far.
I think it's a huge improvement to the original setup. I handles 100 m/ph with ease and takes of like a rocket.
About 80 miles on one tank (12,5 liters)

The Malossi is much cheaper than the JCosta. I know this bescause I have a JCosta on my Tmax. The JCosta pins wear out very fast also. The Malossi rollers are still original in my Xciting.

My experience is different. Check this recent thread out: http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=21154.msg160026#msg160026

The reason it's a lot of work to change the base gasket is because you have to strip the scoot down for the most part, and most parts attached to the engine block. As the cylinderhead can't be removed the way it is, you have to take the rear suspension off and rock the scoot sideways (hanging like a windsurfer) to get the necessary space to take out  all the long bolts. After removing the complete cylinder all flat parts have to cleaned so that the new gaskets will fit correctly. Reinstalling the cylinderhead needs to be done very precisely: chain distrubution timing and various bolt tension. After 40.000 kmand 10 years there are parts that needed replacing and of course some broken bolts (by rust).
I have never done this before so that's also a reason it's time consuming.
