General Discussion / Re: Why do the People S 200 have a kick start?
« on: March 29, 2010, 07:36:45 PM »
When I had my battery issues last summer, I kicked started it many times. It was very difficult to depress. I needed all of my 200+ pounds to do it.  Even with that I would nearly exhaust myself with the repetitions needed to get it started. The first time I needed to do it I was stranded at work. A passerby who said he was an experienced motorcycle rider helped me out and had a difficult time as well and commented on how difficult it was.

New battery and so far so good!  Starts immediately and all components including clock functioning.  Now just waiting for dryer weather to hit it everyday.  Will need to use it everyday for a few weeks to be confident.

Key issue still not completely resolved.  Continues to stick, hard to turn, gets stuck etc...  Purchased graphite "liquid".  Much of a difference between liquid and powder?

BTW - thanks for all the help.  Lots of info.

Finally was able to turn key with a little wd-40 and a lot of elbow grease.  Was afraid I was going to break key.  Still does not turn smoothly and key not gets stuck IN ignition, but it is "working".
Once key worked I purchased yuasa battery this weekend, not intentionally - just by what parts rep recommended($100!!).  Put it in and it started right up!  Last summer I was letting it run for an extra 15 min or so (short ride to work - 10 min) after each ride so it would have enough juice for the next start.
With this "quality" battery will I still need to do that or should a tender be used regardless?

wvlady63,
I purchased my 2007 people s 200 in April 2009 used with low miles.  Had the same problem after roughly 1 month with it.  (Former owner was friend and did purchase new battery before he sold it to me so battery wasn't the issue.)
What did the dealer "fix"?  -New battery?  New ignition switch?  Starter?  Starter relay?
I will be taking mine to dealer and would like find out similar circumstances before I go.

Also, have new problem!?  Key will not turn in ignition.  Can't open seat etc...

Anyone with any help?

Thanks.
