People GT 300i / Re: Variator spacer (washer) removal

I did some research on this. You guys are right. Removing that washer would actually reduce the speed.
The washer that is commonly removed from small scooters is a different one, like the one below.

agilebda: Different sliders would not help, because the once the ramp plate reaches the washer, it can't continue moving towards the crank shaft. Different roller shape can only change the acceleration profile, but has no effect on the pully ratio, therefore no effect on the top speed either.

CROSSBOLT: It is a GT 200i. The washer removal is commonly done on smaller scooter engines, to gain more speed. If you look at the variator cross section below, the spacer/washer sits next to the ramp plate (the crank shaft bearing and seal are on the other side) and by removing it, the ramp plate can move further out towards the crank shaft and the rollers can fly further out, therefor the V-belt can move further out on the pulley (because the two pulley halves are closer to each other).

People GT 300i / Variator spacer (washer) removal

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried to remove the spacer (washer) from behind the variator to allow it to push the belt further out and achieve higher higher speeds?

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. I'm assuming you are referring to the tilt switch. Will check it out...

People GT 300i / Cold engine stalls when going uphill
« on: October 11, 2021, 09:54:56 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have a GT 200i with 30k kms in it. I use it almost every day and recently has started stalling out as I go uphill on a ramp coming out of an underground garage. I cant even restart it while I'm on the slope. I have to roll back and it takes ~30 secs of cranking to get it going again. What could this be? How is it possible that a slope can even affect the engine? It has an injector. It's not like a carburetor engine where the level of the gas in the carb changes along with the level of the whole motorcycle...

Air filter, spark plug, oil and drive belt were recently replaced.

Any help is appreciated.

I have the same pin in my cam shaft as this one on this photo that I've found online, when I searched for "Kymco 14100 cam shaft":

On the above photo I think the pin is there because this cam supports variable valve timing.
I don’t think these engines (People GT) have VVT, so the pin remains mystery.

8
It is strange. Why would they put a pin like that there... Maybe that is how it picks up the position of the valves. The pin vibrates at a certain frequency and the sensor picks it up. It is one of the earliest models (2011) and it is the smaller engine (200i).

9
I decided to do it, so here are my findings:

All four valve clearance gaps were spot on (0.1 mm).
I've also found out the source of ticking. First, here is the video with the sound of the engine:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/152xdTKOGUl3UOOHNcah8rVpZMZ1Vdybg/view?usp=sharing

What I've found out is that there is a pin embedded into the intake valve cam. It is a small pin that I can move horizontally with a small screwdriver. At a certain position of the cam the cam follower of the intake lifter will sink into the groove of that embedded pin and as a result the cam follower will make that sound as the spring forces it to nest in that groove.
This is the pin embedded in the cam:

Here is the video showing when it makes the sound (twice - beginning/end of video):

Anyone else experiencing this?

Hard starting, loss of performance,  and valve noise are signs of valves needing attention.
Some scoots never get valves checked (Honda Forza 300, Burgman 400, etc.), but maybe smaller scooter engines are not so durable?
Perhaps be preparing for a valve check in the not so distant future....gathering tools and instructions, or finding a good mechanic?
Doesn't seem critical just now though, but many of us wouldn't let it go much beyond the schedule suggested by Kymco.
How's that for waffling?
Stig
This is sorta like asking if you really need a yearly dentist visit.
Time and money are gold. If others find them to be OK at this mileage, I wouldn't bother even checking it. At the end of the day all these are coming off of the same production line so valve condition should be similar if service schedule is followed.

11
Highly unlikely but still very likely. Have you serviced on a regular? Is there excessive white smoke or lack of power?
Backfiring? If non of the above I wouldn't worry too much.

I've followed the service schedule. No white smoke and no lack of power. I can hear some vibration that sounds similar to ticking, but more when it is warm and not really when it is cold. It should be the other way around if it is from the valve. I think something got loose and vibrates. I'm loosing a lot of bolts due to vibration. I'm wondering whether it is mine only or all these scooters run rough...

Hi Everyone,

My People GT 200i has reached 10.000 km (6.5k miles). I should check the valve clearance according to the service manual.
Has anyone had them out of spec at 6.5k miles?

I thought I won't bother checking it if others found them to be within spec....

Thanks.

People GT 300i / Re: 2012 GT 200i clutch disengaging too late

Hi all,

The more I ride this bike the more I think that probably you guys are right. I'm used to riding a 50cc minarelli. There was almost no engine brake with that. This one is just too much. I've checked again the speedometer to see at what speed it pulls back and it seems to pull back around 10-15 kmph according to the speedometer. However it feels much lower speed than that as the speedometer reading is very delayed. I'm sure the bike is rolling less than 5 kmph at that point as I almost loose my balance when it happens.
I think I just have to get used to this.
I know the cvt system as I have worked on a couple of them, but they were all 50cc ones.
I've pulled off the plastic cover and the cast housing of the cvt drive. The outer side of the driven pulley moves nicely back and forth against the spring, so it is not the grease that sometimes get contaminated or dries out for sure. In order to know more, I need to pull both pulleys so I've ordered a universal flywheel tool.
Regardless, I now really believe that all I feel is the fact that this engine is much larger than the ones I'm used to and that's all...

People GT 300i / 2012 GT 200i clutch disengaging too late
« on: May 04, 2017, 04:18:02 AM »
Hi guys,

I've just purchased a GT 200i with 2k miles on it. I've noticed that I have a pretty strong engine brake when I release the throttle all the way until the bike comes to a complete stop. The engine will not stall however (the clutch seems to disengage around ~2 mph speed, which is odd. I can't maintain low speeds without making the bike jump back and forth (accelerate-engine brake-accelerate-engine brake). Basically there is no free rolling.
Is this normal with these bikes or I should be looking for faulty parts at the clutch (I suspect s broken clutch spring)or drive pulleys?
