Stator was the problem.
All fixed now. The bike has worked great for the last several thousand miles (now at 47 km,    going strong.)  Replacing the stator is big job - almost have to dismantle the entire bike.

Yes, the bike has an auto by-starter.  Will now replace it.
Valves were adjusted last 5 yrs ago (25k miles ago).
Again, the bike starts fine, runs about 6 miles (15 minutes) and  then dies at a stop sign - when idling. It will not re-start immediately.  After sitting for 5 minutes bike starts right up.  This sequence has happened 8 times in a row!
thanks a million Crossbolt, Jeeves & Scooterlar.

Thanks for reply.  The bike has worked near flawlessly for several yrs. here in Colo. (e.g., a tune-up was done locally) so that isn't different.
Just frustrating that the problem stops the bike, but then after a few minutes of sitting the bike restarts w/ no problem.
(see my "Trouble Free People 250" comments made last yr.

Wonderful 2007 People 250 stalls when hot.  Especially in 90+ degree temperature.  Dashboard gauge says not overheating.  I ride it for about 10 minutes and then it dies, like I've run out of gas.  After sitting for a few minutes it restarts. I replaced spark plug, coil, air filter.  Tried premium gas, riding w/ gas cap open. Most likely to stall when idling. Earlier in bike's life (now 40k km) it would only stall like this only a couple times/yr.  Now stalls on very ride. I live in hi-altitude Colorado.

I'm the owner of that  2007 People 250. It now has 40,600 km.  I don't know about rollers; haven't touched them.  The transmission (gear) oil has been replaced twice (altho it might not have needed it); to do so, use a fat hypodermic syringe, e.g., from a pet store.  The bike has been garaged & not driven in the rain or snow.  The scooter literally has had just one, full tune up in 10 years!
