I have now mounted my Tomtom Rider using a mirror mounting kit as in the photos.

I also found it rather tricky to reach the spark plug - my ratchet extension was either too long or short so I had to run to the hardware store for a 10cm one.

I think it was a result of a design constraint or oversight - the top of the cylinder head is occupied by the intake valves and fuel injector so there is no room but on the side.

I still have the original roll of tools with mine and the spark plug spanner in there is the correct length to do the job, so Kymco got that bit right.

To get at the plug, I ended up with the bike jacked up and leaning to the right and me flat on my back on the ground on the left hand side.

Well at long last I managed to change the spark plug on my DT 300i. Who ever thought of putting the engine that way round so the plug is where it is needs their head examined. Anyway, now I know how it is done and it is possible I am sure it will be easier the next time, if ever.

Have you checked out RAM mounts? They have a bunch of different options

Velcro?

Have you tried Velcro really? Is it strong enough and stable enough that the satnav does not shake to much and become unreadable?

Has any one found a mounting for a satnav suitable for the DT300?

The bars do not have any nice round bits for attachment and I am sure a suction mount on the screen would not be safe.

Thanks for the guidance. Oxford Oximiser battery charger arriving tomorrow I hope, so will then tackle removing bucket and fitting leads to battery.

Arrived today, got the bucket out and found battery. All fitted and ready to go.

Incidentally, if I want to remove the underseat bucket do I need to take the seat off first, or will taking the 4 nuts
visible when you open the seat take the whole lot off in one go?

You are probably right Pipster, I should get at the battery and add pigtails, it will help me to find out where everything is too.

The questions that spring to mind are:

1 Is the 12volt outlet live without the ingnition on?
2 Do we have enough sun this side to keep the battery topped up in the winter?

Downtown 300 / Solar charging of battery

Hi,

Just got my DT300i and in view of the fact that the battery is way down and under the seat I was thinking of fitting a pigtail to the battery for a battery float/trickle charger. However since there is a 12volt outlet in the  cubby I was wondering whether a solar battery maintainer would work in there.

Something like this:

Anyone tried it or any thoughts please.

Downtown 300 / Re: Back to biking

At last got the Downtown a couple of days ago and have had a couple of rides out on it so far, including the 55 mile trip home on day one.

I am still getting used to an automatic after years of clutched bikes. What to do with your feet and left hand for brake and not changing gear but I am sure I will get better. Last auto I had was a 45cc Mobylette with centrifugal clutch back in the 1960s when I was still at school.

Anyway first impressions are "I like it". Runs easily, keeps up with traffic and on a nice sunny like the last two it is fun to be on.
