Technical | How To / Re: People 50 - Carb Reassembly Screwup?
« on: October 26, 2017, 05:27:42 AM »
I'm having similar issues.  I've just acquired a People 50 (in a box of parts), and in find it bogs down badly, especially on hills.  It gets worse as I get closer to full throttle.  It looks like the little device/valve that contains the fuel filter also acts as a fuel "cut-off" valve of somekind (Kymco calls it a "FUEL AUTO COCK ASSY".  As I approach full throttle, there is no vacuum in the line and fuel shuts down.  ??  Not sure what is happening here.  I've begun trying to "de-restrict" the scooter to get some additional power, but it seems to be another wild goose chase. :)

I did modify the drive boss in the CVT to allow it to reach higher speeds, but that hasn't helped the power issue.

I'm curious to see what you learn. :)

So, I just bypassed that valve (Kymco calls it an Auto Fuel Cock Assembly) and my scooter goes faster and maintains speed at full throttle!  WTF!?  How is the scooter supposed to maintain speed with this device in place?  I assume this device is to shut the fuel off while not driving, in the event the scooter is knocked over or something, correct?

People 50 / Full throttle - LESS power
« on: October 25, 2017, 05:17:08 PM »
Hey all -

For some reason, when I take off from a complete stop, at full throttle, the scooter takes off fast!  While still at full throttle, and reaching about 20 MPH, it completely bogs down and struggles to keep going.  If I let off the throttle a little bit, it picks back up again.  ??  It still doesn't go that fast (I'm trying to learn how to derestrict it), but the fill throttle powerlessness is interesting to me.

A mechanic friend of mine said that the little valve, housing the fuel filter, appears to be acting on a vacuum line from the manifold.  At wide open throttle, when there is no vacuum in the manifold anymore, it would cause the fuel flow to slow into the carburetor.  Is this some kind of fuel flow safety switch/fuel restriction?

Thanks!

I have the same problem on my 2 stroke.  It barely goes 25 MPH.  When I'm at full throttle, it bogs down badly.  Uphill is worse!  I haven't changed the belt, but I find that interesting!  Hope we can find some answers. :)

People 50 / De-Restricting my 2009 People 50 - Exhaust Question
« on: October 21, 2017, 01:16:09 AM »
Hey all -

I read a couple threads about doing this, and it was suggested that the exhaust pipe on a 2002 People 50 would be less restrictive.  Is it correct it may not have a catalytic converter in it?  I found another scooter I can buy for parts, and it's a 2003.  I wonder if that would also work to put on my 2009 for a less restrictive exhaust.  Anyone know if the 2003 exhaust pipe is less restrictive than the 2009?

Thanks!

People 50 / Re: Need Parts - where can I get them fast?!

Thanks! I didn't realize that some of these parts could be somewhat interchangeable with motorcycle parts. :)  I found one at the local motorcycle dealership. :)

Thanks again!

Excellent thread!!!

I'm just starting the process to get my 2009 People 50 going a little faster.  :)
I remove the drive boss yesterday and had a friend help me machine it down.  We didn't remove the entire shoulder, since I wasn't sure if the belt would ride too high inside the belt case, when the drive face (with the teeth) and the movable drive face come together all the way.  Is it safe to allow the full length of the drive boss to be machined?  I noticed that I could not exceed 40 MPH downhill yesterday. :)

Also, did I read correctly, the early model exhaust systems are less restrictive?  I found a 2003 People 50 I'm picking up for parts, that still has the exhaust on it.  Will that work well in place of an aftermarket exhaust to free the flow up a bit?

If I have the 2003 exhaust system, do I upgrade the main jet size a little bit to get more power?  If so, how do I properly size that?

Also, I noticed that my scooter really suffers in performance at WOT.  There is a little vacuum switch of some kind (with the fuel filter), that cuts of fuel flow to the carburetor at WOT (no manifold pressure).  Is there a safe way to disable this, without removing the safety feature to cut off fuel in the event the scooter tips over, etc.?

Lastly, did you guys determine the CDI does NOT restrict the engine, electronically?  I should have a CDI on the 2003 scooter I could use also.

Thanks for any help!!  This scooter rocks!

People 50 / Need Parts - where can I get them fast?!
« on: September 13, 2017, 04:54:56 PM »
Hi all -

I'm new to the community.  Just picked up my first 2009 People 50.  I'm rebuilding it from a nice box pf parts. :)  I had to order some parts from a dealer, and it took 2.5 weeks to get them!  :)

I am in need of a cap for the end of the coil wire, or a new coil wire.  Anyone know if I can buy any good aftermarket parts locally in any stores?

I have the same problem on my 2009 People 50.  Last night, I determined the problem is in the cap at the end of the coil wire (not the rubber).  The plastic end that is bent about 75 degrees.  I had a spare one laying around and it was "bad" also.  I removed the cap (I didn't realize you could unscrew it from the wire with some muscle) and stuck a small metal piece into the wire itself, and put the metal near a bolt on the scooter and tried to start it - SPARK!

This is my first scooter (I'm rebuilding it from dead and came with a spare box of parts) and I can't believe how tough it is to get parts.  You have to wait to dealers to order from Kymco and then pay for their shipping and your shipping (unless the dealer is local).  Even so, the dealers have to wait for a $200 minimum order from Kymco to order them.  WTF?! :)
