General Discussion / Re: Beyond ABS is MSC
« on: September 04, 2015, 07:50:19 PM »
I wouldn't be without the ABS on my x500 but at the same time I try to ride like it wasn't there. One of my parking lot exercises at the start of each season is to practice braking by first deliberately overbraking, riding the abs to a stop and marking where I ended up.  My subsequent runs I try and match or beat that stopping distance without the abs triggering.  (Feel it go even once on either lever and that run is disqualified)

Is surprisingly hard at first and surprisingly easy after a bit of practice :)

Posting this here to reach a wider audience than the model-specific forum.

Does anyone know of an available non-runner 09 or thereabouts Agility 50 in a reasonable radius from Minneapolis? The guy I sold mine to got SMIDSY'd and its looking like the insurance co will declare it a total loss. With a non-runner where the front end is in decent shape to work with, he could still have a scoot....

7k miles on my 2013, from mid-May to when the cold temps finally forced me to put her to bed for the winter. No issues or mechanical problems. Watching the road conditions deteriorate over the winter and seeing the route on my daily commute develop potholes faster than a teenager grows zits makes me think the early spring rides are going to be a little interesting

Agility 50 / Re: can a agility meet my needs
« on: December 12, 2013, 10:16:31 PM »
I commuted from one side of Minneapolis to the other every day on one of these for a few years. It handled the task just fine. It became a "guilty 50" fairly quickly, simply because of the need for a little more shove uphill on a couple of stretches of my route.

I have a decent set of heavily insulated motorcycle gloves that I use on both the scoot and deeper into the winter on the snowmobile. Add a set of thermal liners when needed and I've not suffered cold fingers yet. With the liners in they are just about at my limit for comfort and feedback operating the controls but not beyond it.

As one blogger John Mcternan has said this has nothing to global warming. It has everything to do with America embracing sin. <snip>

Thank you for the source material for the next time I need to base a sermon on Matthew 7:3-5

Tools to make a uniform cut and the polishing are two different worries :) Personally I'd mark both my intended line of cut and a second line a couple mm above it, Place tape over both lines (or place the tape first if the lines wont show through it) and then use a dremel or rotozip to cut on the top line - doesnt matter if I wander a little on that part. Then I'd take a sander and smooth it down to the first line, in the process erasing any gross irregularities from the cut. Then I go to my stock of wet&dry sandpaper and sand the edge wet at 200 grit until I cant see the marks of the coarser sander. Then 400, 800 and 1600, each to remove the marks of the last. Keep going with finer and finer grit until you give up and put some buffing compound on a wheel in that dremel and finish it off that way.

If I can put a mirror finish on steel that way, I can probably polish a cut edge of plexiglass smooth :)

I have a 2013 and my mpg is in the 40s too. In daily riding (obligatory disclaimer since we are heading into winter here in the upper midwest: "When temperatures permit") I'm normally putting about 10 miles of surface streets and 40 of highway at about 60mph every weekday. Theres usually a few minutes of sitting in stop&go traffic in there too since there's one nasty choke point I have to get through in the evening rush. That stop&go is the culprit here - this is one seriously thirsty scoot under those conditions and even those few minutes each day makes a difference to the average.

People s150 / Re: Dang it! Going backwards with electrical issues
« on: November 06, 2013, 04:23:20 PM »
Guessing you're dealing with multiple issues here. Get it running off your big battery, check voltage at stator and then test through the charging system until you reach the battery, find where the charging volts go away and you've found one problem. Get the battery tested. Once you know you're good to that point, you can start investigating the rest of the system - there's little point in poking around in the ignition if you don't know that it's getting good power in the first place. If I had to bet I'd put my money on a bad rectifier AND an issue somewhere been battery and coil.

Welcome to the dark side ;) just keep an eye on your motorcycling reflexes and don't instinctively grab a handful of "clutch" at the wrong time :)

Not accidentally engaging the throttle is why the MSF guys make such a big deal about not riding with a high wrist. Just lay your hand flat across the grip with your fingers relaxed and slightly curved around the lever. Look at your wrist position. If you never, EVER, lift your wrist above that position, you wont accidentally throttle up reaching for the lever. However, anytime your grip is in a position where your wrist rises above the handle to fully close the throttle, you probably WILL gas it if you have to reach for the lever in a hurry.

General Discussion / Re: What is your favorite BEER!?
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:30:24 PM »
My favorite beer is the one in my glass :) I'd have to pick a favorite for each style - except lagers and pilsners, those are my least favorite styles.

Stout: Beamish
Porter: Probably Sam Smiths Taddy Porter
Old: Brakspears.
Bitter: Wadworths 6X or Fullers ESB
Ale: Old Speckled Hen

Also, I brew my own :D

General Discussion / Re: Scooter not accelerating
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:20:40 PM »
2008 Kymco People 50.  Nice bike I barley ride it and it has less than 1000 miles.  Not sure what they did for the derestiction I will be calling them again tomorrow.  I called them yesterday and they said to just run it some more and it should work itself out...GREAT ADVICE.  Just a little pissed becuae I've put about $400 into it and just expect it to work.  Auto choke is that something that i can fiddle with to fix it.  I guess it runs lean while in idle and rich when i try and use the throttle...too much gas i guess

Dont guess. Adjust the idle speed and mixture, then get some clean new plugs, run some WOT chops and look at the plug. I'd agree with you that the main jet is probably off but it will bog on acceleration whether you need to increase or decrease the main jet.

Those little 50s really dont like to sit unused either. My old Agility 50 used to behave like this for the first few rides if it had been sitting in the garage for a week or so - sometimes so badly that it would die completely if I cracked on the the throttle too fast rather than rolling it on smoothly.
