Downtown 300 / battery size problem
« on: May 10, 2021, 06:41:14 PM »
Twice now I have ordered a replacement battery for my 2016 Kymco Downtown 300i scooter and got the wrong size - physically too big .
Both times the battery was listed by the seller, Battery Clerk, as the appropriate size battery.
Where can I find and order the correct size?

So far I am still nursing the original battery along with lots of trickle charging, but that is not going to last much longer.

Isn't my 2016 Downtown 300i the same as the Kawasaki J300?

It works well.

So far I am stuck on step 1.
Have been unable to "Pop loose the top handlebar cover."
Guess I hope that moparkid is right and the holes were drilled less than perfectly.
Thanks.

Karl,
Yes, I would appreciate getting the sequence for removing the cover to take a look at the connection.
Could not find how to get there in the manual I have.
It would not be a good thing to lose the connection of the handlebars while in motion.
Had that experience with a bicycle once with a bad outcome.

Thanks for the heads up, Karl.
I will check it out.
The plastic bar cover is not distorted.
I did take a virtually "standing still" fall to the left early on when under 600 miles.
The braked front wheel slid on some mud while I was turning around very slowly.
It landed on the left handlebar.
If there is no spline, it is possible that my spill bent that left bar enough to produce what I now see.
Maybe I should just try to bend it back into alignment?
Or just live with it.

Downtown 300 / handlebars misaligned on my Downtown

A small issue missed when it was new but noticed recently is that the handlebars of my scooter are off center.
The left side is noticeably farther back than the right.
Now that see it, it has become bothersome.
Suspect that when the scooter was assembled the bars were put on the spline one notch off.
How hard is it to change the handlebar position?

After taking off most of the front cowling I came back to this discussion as my progress was very slow.
Key to the next step was Crossbolt telling me the cable was not electrical as I had assumed.
It didn't matter that the battery was dead.
Fussing more with the key my neighbor and I managed to pop the seat open.
Went from there to taking off the seat etc. and charging the battery.
All working well now except the odometer changed from miles to kilometers and the clock is messed up.
Assuming I can eventually correct those problems.
It was not hard to reassemble the front cowling.

Downtown 300 / unwanted odometer change
« on: March 28, 2019, 04:45:25 AM »
After removing my Downtown 300i battery to charge it, my odometer changed from miles to kilometers.
Have not found any way in the manual to change back to miles.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the responses.
It sounds like something I should be able to handle -- with help.  My neighbor who also has a Kymco (500cc) is much more adept mechanically than I am.  When I showed him your responses he volunteered to help me tackle the problem since your descriptions made it seem feasible.
Very helpful comments!
Thanks!
Don

Will give you a report after we tackle it.

Troubled by not getting under seat access on my 2016 Downtown 300i scooter.  Have some important stuff in there and can't get to it.  It has been difficult to release from day one.  The dealership mechanic had the seat off during servicing and after my complaint showed me that the electrically activated cable was working when the key was turned both left and right.  He could not see anything wrong. Now back home weeks later, twisting the key; pushing it down and pushing; all directions.  No action; no clicking sound; and no release.  A shame to take it back to the dealer just for that, but ....
