Tortoise: thank you for your reply & sorry it took so long for me to get back here, it was a crazy winter & I wound up figuring out the problem & forgot all about posting this, my bad... Anywhoo, I did what you said with the exhaust & nothing changed... I decided to go through the carb once again & this time it dawned on me that I never checked the float height in the carb... Turns out, it was out of adjustment & wasn't allowing enough fuel through the carb... Once I adjusted it, she fired right up with the snap of a finger & purred like a kitten again... Thank you again for your reply & help... In case anyone else is reading this & doesn't already know, here's a very quick & easy way to adjust your carb float height that I learned eons ago from an old school mechanic... This should NOT substitute measuring the float height, but will definitely get you pretty close to the ballpark of dead on... Take the bowl of obviously... Attach a piece of house (any kind will do) to the fuel inlet on the carb & hold the carb upright (with the float facing down) & try to keep the carb as level as possible... Make minute adjustments by bending the float needle tang (bending it up will cause the flow to stop with float hanging downwards = less fuel in the carb & vice versa = more fuel in the carb) The tang you are bending is very delicate, so be careful & only make very minute adjustments... Blow through the tube on the fuel inlet while slowly moving the float up so you can see where the air flow is cutting off at, that way you'll know which way to bend the tang... Make your 1st very miniscule adjustment, then blow through the tube while moving the float up to see where the air flow stops this time... Keep repeating that process until the air flow stops when the float is level with the bottom of the carb body... Voila, you are done... This adjustment fixed my problem completely & the bike started the instant the starter was engaged...
