People GT 300i / Top Box
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:15:22 PM »
People 300 is looking better and better.  I worry about storage though.  Why does Kymco have to have a proprietary top box?   It's good.  But maybe not great.   I resent not to have the option when I purchase one to just upgrade to a Shad or Givi topbox.   Given that the bike is spectalular,  I may just have to live with it.  but I"m not mechanically prone as Dave Harrington.  Don't own a drill press.  Jesus why doesn't Kymco read consumer posts and reviews and improve its products?

I can fit into any and am wondering if one is better in your mind and why?  Let me know.   All are full faced.   My understanding is that the Shoei and Arai are Japanese, the HJC is Korean and that for HJC this model (RPS-10) is considered an upgrade relative to the rest of their lineup.  Any advice appreciated.

Thank you one and all.   Your experience and generous input makes this an easier decision.   Even if the US GTi does have a proprietary plate that is different than the Europeon one,  I can work it.   David Harrington did it.  So it is doable.  Plus, I just love Kymco.  lol  Maybe that's enough of a reason!    Long life and safe riding to all.   Please be well and God's speed every night taking you all home in safety!   my best to you and your loved ones.

Thanks Scoot.  Appreciate the advise about the saddlebags.  I'd probably only use them if I need them anyway.  My main concern right now is making sure that I can upgrade the topbox.   I spoke with Dave Harrington of justgottascoot on the plate one poster mentioned.   And we still aren't sure if that plate will work on the rear rack of the US sold People 300 GTi.    Dave talked to Shad, and they weren't sure.   Sounds like it will on the Europeon version.   No matter, I will remove the rear rack the same way Dave did and take it to a shop since I don't own a drill press.

Thanks.   Are side bags a good option for extending storage capability or are they too easy to cut and steal? are hard side cases even available for a People 300 GTIi?    Thanks.  I like Kymco.  Always have.  Now, that the windshield and top case options are solved, makes it an easier decision.   Longer warranty, better part availability, less expensive.   Less cost of ownership.   I will still visit Scoot Richmond or Vespa of Baltimore to look at a BV 350.  But I like ergs of the 300 GTi.   One minor advantage to Kymco, the speedometer is in miles per hour where the BV 350, I think has it on the inner ring only, outer ring being kph.   Of course, that's relative to what I'm used to.

Wiz,

Thanks.   It says People 125, but I'm assuming it will work for the 300 too?

Paul

edit:   the chassis specs on the 125 and 300 are identical according to Kymco.com

Cortez,

Thanks!  I actually meant the BV 350 but put 300.   Wasn't thinking.   So, you'd rate the Kymco higher overall in terms of comfort and roominess.    I went to Richmond south of me and sat on one and liked it very much.

The gas tank is smaller than the 350 and it has less storage space.   But the warranty is a year longer and it comes with a top box.  Also, I have heard some complain that Piaggio's part supply isn't as good as Kymco.   Don't know what that is based on.  I see from Dave harrington on Justgottascoot.com that there is a windshield now that doesn't require me to remove the front turn signals.   But if I want to upgrade the top box to a Shad or Givi, I will need to retrofit the rear rack.   Nothing is ever perfect.   Just trying to get it as close as I can.  Thanks.

Right now, I'm in between these two bikes.  I've sat on the Kymco and the ergonomics work.   Haven't ridden it.  The Piaggio is available and I will check the urgs soon.

pricing is close.   The Piaggio has the bigger gas tank, larger storage room but heavier weight and a shorter warranty.   Kymco has been slow out of the box providing options for upgrading the small top box.   Mileage looks similar.

Right now, I'm leaning toward Kymco just based on the fact that I know the ergonomics are good for me, a longer warranty, the winshield problem is solved.   But I at least need to see the BV350 first before finalizing.   What do you think?

I think this says it all

I don't know what the point is.  But the video is silly.   Once a door is opened, the odds have changed.  You don't go back to the original door.  Your odds are 1/2.  It doesn't make a difference.

I've already decided my next scooter will not be a Kymco.

On July 11, I will explain why.
.

hmmm.  ok.  Ordinarily I would ask why the suspense, just tell us now.  But I assume you have your reasons.  Best.   I am still in the air between the People 300 GTIi and a Suzuki Burgman 400.   There are clear tradeoffs here.  If SYM was still viable, I like the Citycom too.  But given their history and limited dealer network, I don't think I care to chance it.

btw, I know this isn't the right forum to say hello.  But hello anyway.   Been a lurker.   Just got my M class endorsement in April and will be buying my first scooter in July/August.   Trying to decide between Kymco (People 300 GTi) vs. Burgman 400.    Lots of tradeoffs.   Right now leaning towards Kymco.   Some of the posts on the People 250 S have me a little concerned.   Specifically, the quality control on Axy's thread concerns me.   That said, QA is always an issue no matter what you buy.  Pre 2008 Burgmans had their's as well.   Best!

Our first delivery of 2012 People GT 300i are slated for Mid-July.  These will be shipped to the dealers who have pre-ordered.

US models will have the speedometer that shows Miles Per Hour.

Subject: Kymco People GT 300i - Availability & Kmph only Speedometer

Hello.    I wanted to know when the People GT 300i will available for order?    Also, the picture of the People 300 speedometer appears to be kph only without even an inner mph inlay.   Why?   Is the speedometer pic nonrepresentative of what the US will be getting?   Let me know.   Thanks.
