Xciting 500 / Re: Xciting 500i homeless, taken care

That is some incredible top end with the mods you made. My stock 500Ri top speed is 90mph (145kph) I am in need of a regulator/rectifier because I was am getting 18vdc+ at the battery, which was blowing headlight bulbs, after melting the headlight plactic lense. Did you get an OEM replacement, or did you find a suitable replacement? If so, where did you get it? Thanks,

Xciting 500 / Regulator/Rectifier diagnosis and best replacement
« on: February 20, 2024, 11:38:32 PM »
Hi all,

I had posted on this before about my 500Ri (09) blowing headlight bulbs and melting headlight plastic. I finally pulled the regulator/rectifier out. Under high throttle I was getting over 18vdc at battery. I'm fairly certain it's the regulator but would like to test it to be sure. My search on the matter always seem to find folks having too low a voltage, not too high. My regulator is the 5 wire, one plug is 3 yellow wires, and one is 1 red and 1 green wire. Is there a way to OHM it out to test. I don't have the diode test on my volt/ohm meter. I would also like to know if there is a better replacement model available other than a Kymco replacement. I did read this post from 6 years ago, but was hoping for some updated info. (https://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=25726.msg183317#msg183317)  Thanks for reading.

Xciting 500 / Blowing Headlight Bulbs / Voltage too high
« on: October 14, 2023, 08:29:06 PM »
I have a 2009 Xciting 500Ri. It runs great and always has but a few months ago it started burning out my headlight bulbs. The low beams blow out quickly. The high beams don't burn out but it is very brite and has melted my headlight lense. I will have to replace that when I correct the voltage issue. With it running, it's putting out 18vdc when it's running. I'm afraid it's going to fry instrument cluster or other electronics. I'm thinking it's a bad Voltage Regulater. Looking for ideas on what else it could be and how to diagnose a bad regulater or stator. Thanks in advance for your help.

The problem you're experiencing is the same problem I had. I bought mine with the instrument cluster with exact same symptoms as you're having. I took mine out and took it apart and did all the troubleshooting. Ended up replacing with a new one. This was about a year and a half ago. You will need to find one somewhere. I'm thinking that the previous owner before me probably tried to jump start the scooter while reversing the cables. Just speculating. The part number you will need is 37200-LFH1-E00, (pic attached) They're hard to find now, but keep searching, you'll find one. Good luck with it.

I picked up an 09 X500 last April for a song. I use RAM Mounts to mount my phone,GPS. They make a mount that attaches to the mirror stem. Works great. Tried to post a pick but it won't let me. File size issue.

General Discussion / Re: Mechanics and Service Techs
« on: July 22, 2018, 11:40:28 PM »
Good read! I do believe that there is great opportunity for scooter mechanics or someone wanting to open a Scooter shop. I've ridden motorcycles my whole life and as we all know, parts/service is readily available regardless of what brand you ride. I've recently joined the scooter craze and again, as we all know, parts and service, especially for Kymco can a pain in the a$$ to find. In the few months that I've owned my 50 and my 500cc scoots, I'm seeing more and more scooters on the road. I baught both of mine not running and with a little TLC and a good spitshine, running and looking like new. I've been tossing around the idea of opening a shop myself because I enjoy working on them for one, and I really believe that we are on the tip of the iceberg for scooters being as popular here as they are in China and other parts of the world.

Xciting 500 / Synthetic Oil for Xciting 500
« on: July 22, 2018, 09:46:42 PM »
I purchased my 2009 Xciting 500 this past April with fresh oil. Not sure what oil is in it now but would like to go to a full senthetic. Any of you folks using full senthetic and if so, what brand, weight, type etc.... Any noticeable performance change, engine sounds? I apologize for another oil thread but searched and didn't find any specific to the X500.

Well done and very thought provoking. I'd never really thought about it that much but there have been certain close calls that I "conveniently" choose not to tell loved ones. The simple fact is that regardless of what our passions are, (and alot of mine involve two wheels) we don't like to hear anyone poo poo or talk negative about our passions because we take it personally. BTW, enjoyed the familiar riding scenery NJ and Philly area. I live in GA. but my company is based in Moorestown and Mt Laurel area so I've been on those roads before but only in a cage.

Xciting 500 / Re: xciting 500 instrument cluster problems

Problem solved! I bit the bullet and bought a new cluster. Btw, the old one looks cool hanging on my workbench peg board. I'll post some pics after I study the schematics and run some Vdc to the backlight connector. Lemons to lemonade!  ;)

That is crazy but thanks for posting. That will remind me to not skip over the least obviuos things when the gremlins attack. I just had to replace the instrument cluster on my 09 X500. After doing that the speedo would only work intermittently. Seems good now after cleaning and adjusting pickup sensor. These Kymcos seemed to be plagued with electricle issues.

I've removed the cluster and there's one 24 pin connection. I looked for cold solder joints and even resoldered ones that looked questionable but no change when i hooked it back up.

Xciting 500 / xciting 500 instrument cluster problems
« on: April 25, 2018, 02:42:20 AM »
I recently aquired a 2009 xciting 500ri. It runs great but the guage cluster doesn't work. The back lighting, trip odo, clock, turn, hi beam indicator all work but none of the guages, tach, speedo, fuel, temp do not. The battery light and cell phone light stay on. Any ideas? I'm pretty certain it's going to be the cluster itself but I'd like to know it's not a problem in the wiring leading up to the guages before I have to spring for a new one, if I can even find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
