General Discussion / Re: Storing bike in house?
« on: December 09, 2021, 03:01:18 AM »
 ::) ::) ::)
Some of you don't take you scooter in the house?
I'm calling the SSPCS!!!!!

True story (yeah, sad I have to clarify it)...I sold my 2000 Anniversary blue GL1500 to a guy that lives about 40 miles from me. He was frantic after we made the deal, afraid I would sell it to someone else while waiting for his money transfer (required 3 days). My reassurances matter not. 1 week after he picked up the bike, he shows up at my work. Security called and I cleared him through. He parks at a side entrance and had his wife as pillion. He was just profusely thanking me. He had added several more farkles.
My co-workers watched in amazement. I turned to look his wife in the eyes and asked "Is it bad as it looks?" She replied yes.
I said "I guess he now knows that it won't fit through the doors?". She burst out laughing so hard and he turned red.
She replied "Yes, he knows, after measuring it multiple times. But he still tried to twist and turn it everyway he could to force it!!!!"

Might be a help if I HAD a FB account. I don't and don't ever intend to have one.  >:(
There are plenty of other web based forums on Maxi-scoots, and ADV Rider, and even BurgmanUSA (of all places) which have lots of informative posting on the AK 550. "WE" are accepted those places as well as here.

Amen Bob!!!!

Technical | How To / Re: Oil check is IMMIMENT, especially on one cylinders
« on: November 21, 2021, 06:12:08 PM »
I was @ Edwards Chevrolet(Birmingham Alabama) for some recall work. Only about 45 minutes, so I just stood off to the side and waited.
A women drives into the shop with a smoking Impala. I'm standing close enough I can hear the conversation between her and the service manager.
He is trying to be polite. She is screaming about her new car smoking. Only had it for a few months months.
Service manager checks and it has 35K miles. He raises the hood and checks the oil. Nothing on the stick. He turns on the ignition and the warning light was on.
He asked her when she last had it serviced. She asked what he meant. He asks when was the last time the oil was changed.
She replied it shouldn't need changing, it was new when she bought the car!!!!! 8) 8)

General Discussion / Re: AK 550 Reliability in question
« on: November 18, 2021, 09:14:09 PM »
Happens to any brand or model. Non are 100%. Kymco has a good record.
Honda and BMW have used them for their scooters.
My question is who are these numerous people complaining that you're referring to? Competitors? Other brand fan boys?

So i discovered the last red blinking bar isnt actually the last bar :D

That one goes away and then the red "E" sits there and blinks on its own!

I thought it was weird that the low fuel warning was triggered at just under 1/3 of a tank...

This was probably all covered in the manual.

But, but, but.......how soon after the blinking E did you fill up and how much?

General Discussion / Re: 2022 AK550 Average Mileage
« on: November 16, 2021, 03:38:08 PM »
Interesting hypothesis!  Easy check would be to do your own calculation from trip distance vs # galls put into the tank which it looks like @Clampett is doing.

Correct. Mine is still off a bit though due to the Odo not being correct.
My last fillup was 57mpg. Imperial would be 68.5mpg. Bike was showing upper 73's? Short pencil is better than long memory, I don't remember exactly.
Since my Odo is showing 4.5% more than my GPS, that would affect the MPG still showing more than actual.
This is assuming my GPS is correct also. Later on I'll use mile marker posts to compare and add to the confusion, uh, I mean data.

Edit: I plotted the route I took on Gmaps: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/''/32.5274537,-86.2062688/@33.0448867,-86.6098459,10.71z/data=!3m1!5s0x888c2695c8ee89dd:0xabaf4719edf526e3!4m19!4m18!1m15!1m1!1s0x8889049dc42912c3:0xbcd2a370dbd3432!2m2!1d-86.8204455!2d33.6058324!3m4!1m2!1d-86.8157182!2d33.5664119!3s0x88891b51b3e47241:0x485f044ae7612ea9!3m4!1m2!1d-86.6470289!2d33.3529725!3s0x88893e63811fef07:0x5b2ceeb01a7a7881!1m0!3e0
Gmaps shows 99.7 miles, GPS showed 99.9 miles, and my trip meter A showed 104.4 at the red light.
A C50 riding with me showed 102.5 on his trip meter. Since mile markers are known to be off also due to realignments, which side of the interstate it was measured on, etc. I'll just stick with the GPS for being the most accurate as long as I'm not measuring twisty roads. The MPG aren't that far off for normal tracking/ performance monitoring.

I take it you dont think the lithium option is worth the extra cost? Or do you have any other opposition to them?

2 things to consider (I've read, but have no experience).
1st is if you ride when it's approaching freezing, I've read the CCA drops fast on lithium batteries.
2nd is you have to use a different type maintainer for lithium batteries. A regular tender is not recommended
because it isn't designed to read the charge on lithium batteries and can not charge correctly.

On the other forum, everyone that has bought them, like them. They are just different. Like scooterists!!!!

The manual says to use Kymco Original 4-Stroke oil or one matching the specs.
That oil is JASO MA2.

This is not meant to tell you what to do. Just saying what is in the manuals recommended by Kymco.
I am one of those that usually use what I want regardless of the oil thread chatter. All the barking and growling doesn't change what I use.

<snip>
The first oil change per the USA user manual is at 600 miles. Second oil change at 3000 miles. Third oil change at 6000 miles.
Then it becomes much more reasonable with all subsequent oil changes every 6000 miles after that third oil change.
<snip>

Yep, plain as day and I still said it wrong. Good catch. Thanks.
