I would change the fuel filter first, and also have a look at the air filter.
You can also remove the spark plug, and “read” the condition of the spark plug. If the spark plug  looks wet or has black soot it means the fuel does not burn properly. This can be caused by a clogged air filter or incorrect valve clearance settings.
So I think you probably have a look at valve clearance settings as well.

Just noticed that you are in Ankeny. My son lives in Ankeny with his family. I live in West Des Moines and get up there to help with transporting his kids around. Maybe we'll see each other around. I sometimes ride up that way on my AK 550, but usually in the car since it's more often to help with the grandkids.

It will be nice to meet somewhere in future. My wife used to join rides but due to back problems she can’t join any longer. I am at work during the week and by times I work on Saturdays as well. I like spending some time with my wife on Sundays but we should be able to meet during some Saturdays or Sundays when my wife meets her croche friends in west Des Moines.

Hey, Scooterfan, good to hear from you, again! I'm no help with the title question (seems lot of older scoots seem to have lost titles? calling the DOT, as RJS said).. how has the transition from South Africa to the US and Iowa gone? I think it's been a few years, now?

Hi Iahawk, the transition went very well. We have settled without hassles and we simply love Iowa and it's people. We've arrived 22 months ago.
We are planning a 3 week visit to South Africa at the end of this year just to visit our children and grandchildren. It will be the the fist time that we will be going back just for a visit since our arrival.

The Agility I gave to my granddaughter in South Africa has never been used since we've left. My son in law was suppose to do a 400 mile trip to haul the scooter home but so far he just could not find time to get hold of the scooter. So the scooter is still at my son's house in Durban. When we visit my son I will try to get the scooter going again. It will be so good to take my son's two dautghters for rides again. We've had such fun and joy on the 'lil Agility in the past, it's just unbeleavable to have the opportunity to make more memories again.

As far as the Grandvista goes - thanks to everyone for the advice. At the beginning the seller seemed to be very keen to sell - but I guess I've asked too many questions. While we were still communicating the seller suddenly just labled the scooter as "sold" and that was the end of communication from his side. I think maybe he realized it might be better for him not to sell.

Anyway, I am not desperate to buy another scooter. I am still on the Silverwing and really enjoys it. The Grandvista just looked like a big bargain without papers and a little starting problem. So I could not resist the temptation to get hold of it. Who knows, I might be able to get hold of a possible bargain in future again.

Hi folks, I am interested in buying a Grandvista 250 as a 2nd scooter but the Grandvista has no title. The seller is in Kansas and I am in Iowa.
Would it be possible and worth the effort to try gettting a new title for the scooter ?
I  would obviosly be able to get information from DOT but I do not have time to visit them during the week.
Thanks, I will appreciate any information.

Agility 125 / Re: Agility 125 no spark | help needed
« on: January 01, 2023, 02:11:27 AM »
Where did you do the Voltage check with the Multimeter ? You must disconnect the plug at the CDI, and do the voltage check at the + wire at the loose  CDI plug - while somebody else presses the Starter Button. If you get a Voltage reading of less than 9.6 Volts at the loose connection the spark will be too weak and chances are very good that the scooter will not start.
An “acceptable” Voltage reading at the battery itself does not mean the battery has enough power to generatea proper spark at the spark plug.
If you get a Voltage reading of 9.6Volt or lower at the loose CDI plug you need to get a proffesional load test done on the battery.

Stig,

Yup, I really like the Honda but I will never forget the good times on the Kymco.

I hope to forward some photos of the Honda during the next weekend. At the moment I am sitting about 600 miles from home in Kentucky.

The DOT people in Iowa are quite friendly too. Unfortunately I need to go back to them after the course and there is quite a long waiting list to get an appointment date.
I just hope to get an appointment soon. Just spoke to my wife and she told me about the lovely weather in Ankeny today.

@Rjs987,

Thanks, I surely will enjoy the scoot. Still need to get my permanent license - my South African license was only valid for 3 months in Iowa and at the moment I am just sitting with a leaners. I've booked myself for a riders course next month, to my understanding a riders course softens DOT's hearts to issue licenses.

As for tornados - those things are indeed very scary. Just the possibility of seeing one in real life is quite frightening. I travel a lot so I guess I might have a few scary moments in future.
Anyway, I will not rely on just covering my head with a blanket in future.

So much for March coming in like a lamb!

It did for a very short time. A few very nice days near 60F. And then the wind blew... hard. A few tornadoes Saturday evening with one being EF4 and a total now of 7 dead and many injured with much property damage and homes or businesses lost. The big one was on the ground for over 160 miles and passed just 10 miles south of me.

Then last night the snow fell. Woke up to 3.5+ inches of heavy white stuff all over. Not really wet but definitely not dry powder. All the schools announced a 2 hour delay. 5 inches at the metro airport about 8 miles away as the crow flies.

Not such a nice day for a ride in Iowa.
Just came in from "riding" my other 2 wheeler to blow off the white stuff from the driveway and sidewalks before my wife took the 4 wheeler out to pack it down. Temps started out near 20F and will get up to the mid 30sF today. Expecting refreeze tonight and then mid 40sF tomorrow. More snow, just as much if not more, coming Wednesday night into Thursday.

This is not entirely unusual to get snow in March. Just doesn't happen every year and was hoping with being a milder winter this season that it would be a milder March. Wrong!

The lamb was devoured by the lion!

Maybe the lamb will have her revenge at the end of the month?

I am based in Ankeny Ia and bought myself a Honda Silverwing 600 two weeks ago. Due to the weather in Iowa I could not take it for a ride yet. Due to work obligations most of the time
I am not even close to the scooter to take it for a ride.
So for the time being I am just dreaming and hoping winter will be gone soon...

By the way - on the Saturday night there was a tornado just south of Ankeny as well. I just arrived back at home about two hours before the tornado and I was quite tired. The tornado alarm went off and there was a warning on Tv to get shelter somewhere. I was too tired to find shelter though - just had n glimpse at which direction the tornado was going, went straight to bed, and covered my head with a blanket.
Next morning when I woke up I thought maybe it was good just to cover my head with a blanket...

If you had to apply full throttle to prevent the engine from  dying I think you have a fuel supply problem. Some dirt probably got stuck somewhere in the carb for a while but there might be more diet in the carb.
So I think it might make sense to remove the carb and make sure all channels and jets are clean.

I haven’t bought a scooter yet but I noticed  Habor Freigt currently have a clearance sale on these balancing stands. I was not sure whether the stands will be available in the local area in future again, so I bought one at a Harbor Freight store in Des Moines, IA today.

General Discussion / Re: our thoughts and prayers go out to Kansas Kymco
« on: November 20, 2021, 03:56:51 PM »
Sorry to hear. Does anyone knows how Kansas Kymco is doing ?

My own family on father side has a history of strokes and weak vaines. My younger sister passed away after a stroke at age 41. For what it’s worth,  I started taking an Asprin dayly many years ago - hoping it will help avoiding a possible stroke during my lifetime.

Anyway, I hope Kansas is doing well and on his way to a complete recovery.

You mentioned that the carb has been cleaned but depending how the carb has been cleaned, I still think the problem has something to do with the carb. Or maybe an air leak in the intake system.

Maybe you should have a look whether the carb has been mounted properly, and make sure the bolts are tight. Again, make sure there is no air leaks in the intake system.
Depending on how the carb has been cleaned, I would remove the carb, remove the main jet, and submerge everything except the needle and seat spring in white vinegar for about 24 hous. Just make sure the seat spring does not get submerged in vinegar - because the vinegar could destroy the seat spring and  then you will be sitting wit a bigger problem. I’ve had such an experience on another application  before, and due to that mistake the coplete carb had to be replaced.

After about 24 hours in vinegar you can just blow out the the main jet and carb channels with an air compressor if you have one. Just make 100% sure the main jet channels are clean.

Side note - I cleaned my son’s electric generator’s carb this way two weeks ago. My son was at the brink of buying a new carb, but since the carb has been cleaned properly the engine now  runs like new.

Good luck, maybe this helps.

Agility 125 / Re: Agility 125 16+ Engine Dies Temporarily
« on: October 22, 2021, 12:26:33 AM »

EFI and the ignition function is in the ECU.

In that case I would go for a new ECU if the price of a new ECU is not higher than labor costs + the price of an EC U  at a Kymco agency.

But of caurse - my guess is just a gamble …

I am not familiar with Agility 125 16+’s but if your Agilityhas a DC CDI, chances are more than good that the CDI on your scoot is on it’s way out.
My ex- Agility 125 had a DC CDI and over time I experienced similar problems twice - in both cases the problems were solved by i stalling new CDI’s.

You can also check the Petcock valve by disconnecting the line linked to the suction side of the carb, and disconnecting the fuel supply line to the carborettor.
Just suck slightly on the loose line previously connected to the suction side of the carb by mouth, and see whether fuel is running freely from the loose fuel line previously connected to the carb while you are sucking.
Some dirt could be stuck in the petcock valve, or the petcock diapfram could be faulty.
