I have the Hero 1 still - still working great when I need it. The software is pretty easy to use also. What kind of mount do you use for the helmet?

I bought a mount for the scoot, but the only place to put it is on the (left) handle bar which leaves my hand about 25% off (uncomfortable).

This is the 1/2 of footage for the Hero 1. I can't keep it mounted because of safety issues.

Robert, the other scooter, at the beginning of the video, he passed away to a scooter accident last month. RIP buddy.
Instead of the camera facing front (fixed), I would prefer it to see what I see.

If you live in a high crime rate area, I have to say, I am loving the GPS tracker I bought for the scoot.

Usually when I walk the dog in the morning, I have that second before I exit the building - where I ask, is it still there?. With this thing, I get text messages when it leaves my home area. It tracks my routes and I have to say. I would fully recommend to someone that can't lock the scoot in a garage or really securely and is out in the open.

For me, the battery life on this thing would probably stretch to a 5 weeks because I am so local to every place I go, but I like to keep it above 50% so I charge it every 3 weeks at work (secure building - a lot of cameras). The support with the company is great also, although not written in the instructions, they will let you know how to get SMS messages, otherwise, it is only emails.

They have a kit to wire it to your battery, I am fine with charging it though. It seems it does (for me) an automatic ping every 6 hours when it is just sitting (unit is shut off - until movement). I check the pings and it just says 'non-movement activity'. I don't get alerted for those, but nice to know it does this.

Hands down a great piece of mind for me.
Also, they store a years worth of data, though you can only really see the last 7 days worth. Last position known, will be when the thieves find it, or where they dump it.

It does cost money though for a monthly subscription.

Yea, I seen that one on Amazon before posting. Reading the reviews though, not sure if it is the right fit.

I just bought a GPS Locator that is stowed under the seat and I love that and have had it about 2 weeks. It is really neat. Though, I was thinking if I was going to buy a camera, might as well go a little bigger and better.

I seen this one also, Tachyon but the reviews aren't that great either, rather not that many.

Then I came across this Sena10c and I may save up to get this one.

If anyone has any thoughts on the last one.

So, I have been reviewing some choices for Helmet cameras (built-in and mounted). They get pricey. Do any of you guys have any experience with those? or recommendations?

My specs: I don't need to communicate to others, so a mic isn't really necessary - though recording audio would be nice. I already have a GoPro mount, but it gets mounted rarely. I have been watching a lot of videos of helmet cams recently and would like one. I know it would come in useful sometime.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
edit: I edited title because I like the GPS tracker option better.

It has been over a week now and we are coming to terms with it  - his organs are being donated. Just one of those hard things to swallow and to know that if only a helmet was worn for a quick trip less than a mile away.

Since we (co-workers/friends) are not family, we still can't get any details about the accident as of yet. I think the report will ease my mind at least a little and others because the SUV driver isn't being charged with anything. Regarding that, think about how that driver may feel right now. I don't know - I am sure that has to be something altering to them also.

Thanks  for the replies and PMs.

Thanks, I don't know if you were hit by the snow the weekend before this, but this was the last text message I have with him. We got 10" of snow dropped and roads were horrible. He has a longer ride than me for context (he is "M").

On that ride home for me, with horrible conditions, I had people passing me across the double center line. I pulled over when I could to let cars pass as he later he told me he did also. My trip home is about 12 minutes during the summer, it took about 25 minutes on this day. My route is fortunately on less congested roads, his is on a main through way, so I know he had a harder time than me. He made it home safe that day.

We managed winter on the scoots. For this to happen, when it is clear above freezing and good riding conditions, just reminds you how important a helmet IS. You can't know, you don't know.

Sad day last Monday - my buddy that I work with was killed on his scoot when he was hit by a SUV here in Indianapolis, IN. There aren't many of us Scoot riders here, and it was a small accident, but without a helmet, he suffered brain damage and barely had a scratch on him. We don't know the full story yet, but it was at a 4 way stop. When Paramedics got there, they didn't think he was grave danger until on the way to the hospital when his face started swelling.

Sad sad day. Him and I were talking just 30 minutes before hand about a GPS locator I ordered for my Scoot.

Safe riding and wear your helmets.  :(

General Discussion / Re: Kymco Agility or Kymco Super 8?
« on: April 06, 2017, 02:28:51 AM »
I appreciate the post - Since I have a Kymco Agility 50 that has less than 2000 miles on the engine (2013 model) I decided to go with the Agility. The cost to fix the (stolen/broken) 2013 outweighs the cost of a newer one, so I have a 'part' bike now. If I was going to trade it in on the purchase, probably $300 at best.

In Indiana you have to license and title/register scoots along with getting an endorsement on your ID if you don't have a drivers license, so I went ahead and did that for the broken one and the new one. At least they are on the books.

Other than that ... I have a few questions that I will ask in separate and appropriate threads.

Thanks
GE

General Discussion / Kymco Agility or Kymco Super 8?
« on: March 29, 2017, 03:00:37 AM »
I got a quote for a Kymco Agility 50 2017 model for $1.6k but they are pushing the Super 8 for $200 more. I had a Kymco Agility for 5 years (ran her hard) and it was worth the money. The ending price from this retailer for the Agility is about $2.1k for freight, taxes and other.

Is the extra $200 worth it in the long run?   Is it a better scoot or is it just design (cooler design)?

Thanks for the heads up if anyone has any information. I plan on buying in about 2 days.

Thanks
B

Agility 50 / Re: If your scoot is stolen and found ... How to fix?
« on: December 31, 2014, 03:10:05 AM »
first thing I would do is get a new battery, and jump the starter to see if it still has compression. If it does, get a new Ign. set, and see if you can get it started.

Thx BettinANDlosing - yep will be flushing the fuel lines. I put stabilizer in it and shook it up real good. Along with a carb clean (luckily I have done this about 3 times, so shouldn't be an issue), I don't think the battery would be bad though. Last month I brought the battery home with me out of storage and charged it and put it back in to see if it would start. It didn't.

Zombie, not sure what you mean by jump the starter. My last scoot which was a 2009 lasted some hard riding for 5 years and then it died. Sold it for $150 for parts, guy told me it was compression. Bought this one, it is a 2013 Kymco 50, so compression should still be good right?  Just not sure how to 'jump the starter'.

Thanks for the replies.

Agility 50 / If your scoot is stolen and found ... How to fix?
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:34:49 AM »
If your scoot is stolen and Found and it won't start.

For me, it was stolen and then found. Now I have a broken scoot. They broke the ignition, kick star and handlebar lock. All blinkers  damaged and allot of other, but replaceable. Front face plate ripped open.

I have had it in storage for about 6 months, but want to look at getting the scoot fixed.

What is more important to fix first?
* Handle bar lock?
* Ignition?

The question raised is how do you return a vandalized scoot to working order. I put some fuel stabilizer in it about a month ago and I can clean fuel lines and carb. I can get a new spark plug if needed. I just need suggestions.

I think this could be an interesting thread.

How do you get a stolen scoot back up to running?

Looking for advice and will post pics and outcomes as time moves on.

Thanks to anyone with any ideas. I want to DIY this rather than having it serviced by an off the books repair company :).

6 months of riding a bike has netted me about 20 lbs of weight loss also. I am fine on a bicycle, but there are days I would prefer the scoot. We have had a mild winter so far in Indiana, so biking is not a problem. I do want to fix her thought.

Thx to anyone that replies.

http://www.amazon.com/XZZ6L-Y-Disc-Lock-Alarm-Scooter-Yellow/dp/B003Y8EFRO/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1408539189&sr=8-11&keywords=xena+disc+lock

I have that disc lock and if only I didn't become complacent that it was in a public place and it was mid-day in a busy apartment complex it wouldn't have been touched. I only put the lock on at night after the final walk for the evening with my dog.

Since the police found it, I do plan on getting it fixed. Since I have to get the ignition fixed anyway, I was thinking about doing an alarm with the ignition. I will still need to replace 3 out of 4 turn signals and get the kick start looked at because it is stripped or broken. I haven't opened her up yet to really look. It is in a storage shed down the road. The plan is to make all of this happen within the month. First step is to look at her really good and make a list on what needs replaced. I know I will definitely need a new face where the headlight is because they ripped that mother off.

Thanks in advance. And surely, I will be taking those few extra seconds every time to secure the bike at least with 2 different deterrents (Alarm and chain).
Something like this:

and I saw a YouTube Video:

Has anyone had any experience or suggestions for this type of thing.

Didn't know that, yep good article. I didn't know we were in the Top Ten. Those "people" that stole it are drifting away from this complex because they have been taken on by the complex management.

Good for them and thank you to Pangea. No more shirtless and hanging out in groups. No more unsupervised kids babysitting kids on the playground at 10pm at night and cursing and carrying on.  I guess the 'Aunties and grandma's' didn't want to jeopardize their leases. I personally saw a 75% drop of those 'people' out after the memo got out that would result in lease violations.

I may get it fixed sooner than later, still on the watch though.  I walk my dog a lot and the kids love him. I even let them take turns holding the leash. I asked one of the kids if he needs a belt while we were walking my dog. He said 'no' and I asked why do yo let your pants fall to your thighs?  He said because it was 'cool'.

It is a cycling feature here, I wish I knew a way to help stop it.

Had to move into a new place during mid-April. I already expected to walk out and it be gone upon renting the place. I was surprised it lasted 3 months untouched. I got home at 2pm and it was gone by 3pm. Chain cut and gone. When I noticed, I was coming out with my dog for our walk. Wasn't surprised, still took our hour walk. Called in for a Police report and 30m later they asked me to meet them in a local field.

There was my scoot, banged up and trashed. This was at 2pm in the afternoon and no one saw some people pushing my scoot out of the complex for 1/3 mile. If I had my disc lock on then it wouldn't have happened. Maybe replacing the chain is less costly, so to those that get complacent on only a chain in a public place need to hear this warning.  Police said they knew where to look because they put them in the bushes to come back later. They already broke the front panel trying to hot wire, the kick start and the ignition (screwdrivers and such to start it).

I was expecting it though. I had to move from a garaged place to street parking. You can guess the type of race I live around. It is not racist if it is true and I had planned for it. My reaction was to the effect "there ya go", and continued to walk my dog for an hour before I reported because I EXPECTED it. Disc lock would have prevented it because they couldn't push it. 3 months in and it was still there so I quit disc locking it during daylight hours (only on our last walk (dog) for the evening. Home owners pretty much safe, apartment renters beware. Indianapolis, IN be aware.

Not going to fix and re park in the same unsafe location. Rented a local Drive-up location for $70+ a month and is stored there.
Going to try to Bike it for the next 9 months until I can get away from these people.

*end PSA
