People 150 / Re: Looking at a used People 150
« on: December 16, 2015, 12:24:12 AM »
Agree with everything Mr. Paul said.  I owned a 2005 People 150 which I sold a few months ago to get a bigger scooter.  It had about 25,000 km on it, and it ran as well as the day I bought it! ;)

Seems to be a theme here.  I purchased a 2009 SYM HD200 about three months ago and just sold my 2005 People 150 yesterday.  Owned the 150 for over 7 years and put about 23,000 km on it.  The scoot still ran as well as the day I bought it.  Hated to see it go, but I just couldn't justify 2 scooters taking up room in the garage.  Hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I did!  So far, nothing but good things to say about the HD200.

Awesome Z!  90+ is at your doorstep.  Looking at this thread it just makes me wish some of the old boys (slinger, vivo, streido.....and even axy) were still around to read about it.

General Discussion / Re: Roller upgrade for People 150,need advice
« on: July 11, 2015, 03:12:43 AM »
The OEM rollers in my 2005 People 150 are 18 mm x 14 mm x 15 g.  I replaced the OEM rollers with 13 g sliders and the top and bottom end is very similar to the rollers.  If anything, I might have gained a little on the bottom end and lost a little on the top end but it is hard to tell.  However, the acceleration with the sliders is very smooth.   I have  put several thousand km on the sliders now and I have been very happy with them.....no problems to date.  If you need to replace the rollers, you might consider going with the Dr. Pulley sliders.  I also have replaced the rollers in my recently purchased SYM HD200 with sliders and again I am very happy with them.  I purchased my sliders from the seller called "autotech355" on ebay.  He is from Taiwan, his prices are generally good, and surprisingly shipping has been fairly quick.  Good luck!

The speedometer on the P150 is typically very optimistic.  I weigh 175 and my top speed on the flat is about 55 mph (actual), give or take a couple miles per hour.

B&L, I'm considering doing the same thing to the SYM HD200 I just purchased.  Should I be concerned about adjusting the carb or the engine running lean after the emission's parts are removed?  Thanks ;)

Welcome to the forum Peeps.  That's one funky P150 you've got there!  Not sure how much luck you'll have with your question.  I gather most of the P150 owners on this forum keep their engine stock.  Seems like most of the engine mods are done on the 50 cc scoots.  Good luck!

General Discussion / Re: Kymco People 150 vs SYM HD 200 EVO
« on: May 25, 2015, 05:55:02 AM »
Very happy with the SYM so far.  For an engine that is only 21 cc's larger than my P150, I am quite impressed with the top end at 70+ mph.  Off the line, it has good acceleration but not as much as I was led to believe from my research prior to the purchase.  Maybe this is because it weighs 50+ pounds more than my P150, so you don't really "FEEL" the acceleration like I do on my P150 (only mod on the P150 was I replaced the stock rollers with 2 gram lighter sliders).  I plan on trying some sliders on the SYM, 2 grams lighter than the stock rollers, to see how they feel.  Build quality, fit and finish appear to be top notch on the SYM.  Two similarities between the scoots: they are both rock steady at highway speeds and the seating position on both is not as far back as I would prefer (I am 6'0" tall, with a 34" inseam).  I ended up cutting some foam out of the seat on the SYM so I can now sit about 2" farther back.  It turned out really well and is much more comfortable.  The P150 is a little more nimble than the SYM, but the SYM isn't bad.  Will install an iridium plug tomorrow and should receive a new top case and the sliders in a few days.  Overall, I would say that both are great scoots, with the SYM fulfilling my desire to get a little more top end speed (about 15 mph+!).

Well, I took the plunge and bought the SYM!  Thanks to all for your comments/advice! ;)  I wanted a bike with more top end and the SYM certainly delivers: 70+ mph.  Loving it so far.  Plan to replace all the fluids, air filter and spark plug soon and will likely replace the rollers with sliders, since they worked so well on my P150.  Thanks again to all who responded.

P.S.  Wayne in addition to the People 300 GTi, you might also consider the SYM.  I believe there is a dealer in Pekin.

Thanks for the info B&L.  When I asked the guy what maintenance he performed on the bike, he said he had flushed the coolant when he purchased it two years ago.  I thought that was a little unusual, but now I know why! ;)

General Discussion / Kymco People 150 vs SYM HD 200 EVO
« on: May 08, 2015, 12:14:17 AM »
Saw a local ad for a 2009 SYM HD 200 EVO with 5300 miles on it for $1900.  From the photos, it appears to be in great shape and I hope to check it out tomorrow.  I currently own a 2005 People 150 and have been very happy with the scoot.  I am looking for a little more top end speed and was considering the People 300 GTi, but at the same time I would like to keep the weight down, so I'm thinking the SYM might just be the ticket.  From reviews I have read the SYM is an excellent scooter.  My 150 tops out at between 55 and 60 mph but from what I read, the SYM is capable of 70+!  If I remember correctly, someone on this forum own's/owned both.  Could you please respond with your thoughts on the two scooters comparing, low end acceleration, top speed, mpg's, handling, reliability, headlight visibility, availability of parts, etc.  Also, I would appreciate hearing from anyone else with SYM HD 200 EVO experience.  Thanks and what the heck happened to the Z-man?.....must be working on his hydrofoil venture!

Please tell me how and where I can buy a new 300GTi for under $4000!! If this is the case I would buy one TODAY!!! I was at a dealer in Tucson and he could only find an incentive for $300. Any info on this would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks everyone and ride safe, mscmkr

This dealer in Osseo, MN has the 300GTi advertised for $3,199.00!  http://www.heinenmotorsports.com/sales.html

Wayne, have you had a chance to try out a People GT 300i.  I have a People 150 and I often thought if I made the move to a larger scoot, the GT 300i would fit the bill.  It has the 16" wheels and appears to have a more upright riding position than most of the other larger scoots.  I believe 2013 was the last model year that was sold in the U.S. but several dealers still have new 2013s in stock.  In fact, a dealer in Osseo, MN is selling them for $3,299, your choice of color!  Heck of a deal!
