General Discussion / Re: Air filter element for Kymco X-Town 300i ABS

Thanks. I plan on calling around this week. I inspected the filter when changing the oil today and it needs replacing.

General Discussion / Air filter element for Kymco X-Town 300i ABS
« on: April 25, 2020, 02:20:24 AM »
Anyone have a line on periodic service part for the X-Town?  I have tried all of the sources listed in the pinned parts threads.  No luck online. I have not started calling yet.  My dealer here cannot get and I'm due for a change.

Is the air filter possibly equivalent to something else or close enough that something else can be adapted.

Another vote for Frogg Toggs.  My jacket is florescent green and is the most visible piece of gear I own.
I have not noticed them flapping appreciably.  But then I don't go much over 50-55 in the rain.

I always carry them.  They double as a wind-proof layer if the weather gets too cool.

Studies show that the average motor cycle helmet noise level is between 95 and 105 dB at 65mph due to wind noise. OSHA standards say that anything over 85 dB will cause permanent damage with long exposure. Anything over 35 mph can exceed the OSHA safety limit.

The argument is sometimes made that with earplugs you might not be able to hear horns sirens and such. My personal experience is that I still hear horns and sirens better than motorists riding around in noise isolating a steel cage.

I suppose a counter-argument could be made that once a rider goes deaf from the wind noise they won't have to worry about whether earplugs prevent you from hearing sirens and horns.  :-\ Personally I'll take the earplugs whether legal or not.

I have been using foam but am considering buying a set of custom musicians (high fidelity) plugs. Anyone have experience with those?  Recommendations?

General Discussion / Re: Looks to me scooter interest/use dead in USA

I see quite a few scooters running around Albuquerque.  Not sure which is cause and which is effect: Interest or the presence of dealers.

Scoot Albuquerque is both a Kymco and Vespa dealer.  Lobo Scooters is a dealer for small scooters across the street from UNM campus.
There are several motorcycle dealers that sideline in scooters as well.

General Discussion / Re: Pity you big city highway commuters!!!

Eeww!

I have to say I would not trade my commute!  18 miles down Route 66 (as in the song, "Get your kicks, on route 66.") And it's a busy day if I see more than 6 cars. I don't even have to go all the way into town to get to the office.

I have a hard time grasping why/how people live with the congestion of city life.

::) Hey, even Walter ended up doing something cool 8) before the end. I guess I owe more pictures in the eye-candy section.

Yeah, most people who come to visit comment that there isn't any air up here. But I spent much of my youth living at a ski area in northern New Mexico. The altitude was 8400 ft, so I consider this to be the lowlands. If I go down to sea-level I feel like I am drowning in the liquefied air.

Next tank I'll try 85 octane.

I am in the mountains east of Albuquerque.  My house is at 7000 feet and my office at 5600.
After changing the way I was fueling the mpg has been between 73 and 76.

But the octane could still be a bit high given the altitude.

PS - I did also drop down to 88 octane (mid-range)

Technical | How To / What parts to keep on hand
« on: June 06, 2019, 12:31:34 AM »
With all of the discussion on this site about the inconsistency some have described in getting parts it seems prudent to keep a few common spares on hand.

Any idea which parts it would make since for a DYI'r to keep on hand?  What do you all have spares of?

PS - My scooter is an X-Town 300i.

After several tanks of gas I can definitely say the issue was not fueling with the scoot consistently on the center stand.  My average is closer to 70mpg.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Re: X-Town 300i at Maggie's Diner
« on: June 03, 2019, 08:39:53 PM »
Maggie's Diner was the setting for the 2007 movie Wild Hogs. (Starring John Travolta, Tim Allen, William H. Macy, and Martin Lawrence. Trailer here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486946/videoplayer/vi165610521?ref_=vp_pl_1)  The movie is a parody about 4 middle-age urban biker wannabe's that decide to do a cross-country road-trip but end up running a foul of a tough biker gang. Most of the scenes in Madrid center around Maggie's Diner.

The diner was built by Walt Disney specially for the movie in the former Ghost Town of Madrid New Mexico.  Today Madrid is an artist's colony and on the Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway, and a popular motorcycling destination.

It's supposed to be kinda cool for HD riders to have a picture of their bike in front of Maggie's.  My photo is kinda tongue-in-cheek.  8)

Sorry, fat (clumsy) fingers.  :(  I have corrected 330 to 300.
If they had put a 330 cc engine in it they probably would have called it a 350.  ;)
