Reminds me of that song by Johnny Cash titled "One Piece at a Time."

I was preparing to fire a sidewinder at this slow moving vehicle blocking my way but it turned off.

Before the coronavirus, I often caught myself doing little risk assessments for my location and activity. As a scooter rider, most trips are a series of constant risk assessments. For me, risk varies from street-to-street, city-to-city, county-to-county, and state-to-state. With coronavirus, I've just added additional factors to my risk assessments - am I protecting myself against airborne threats and am I protecting others? Just goes to show you can leave the Navy though it never leaves you.

I'm wondering if this led to the decision by Kymco to not bring the 550 to the USA?
I'm guessing it was one of many factors working against Kymco and its 550. Some folks can't get past the Taiwan/China scooter stigma - even with reliability records staring them in the face.

I've done no official research, but the hotbed of SoCal scooters seems to be universities, followed by the Vesperati, followed by us grocery-getters, purists, and shade-tree mechanics. For me, 163ccs's in enough, 550 would just take the fun out of it. Yet, I do respect the scooting needs of freeway riders, work commuters, and two-uppers.

Still, there's a reason I'm not a scooter dealer - it's a fickle market. I'd call it a "motor-fickle" market.

Technical | How To / Re: Passenger foot pedals in the Kymco like 150?
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:02:27 AM »
... is there a trick to getting them to close?

I have the Like 200i and believe the foot pedals are identical to the 150. I select a round button to spring the pedal out to the open position. They are held open by the tension of the spring and the weight of the foot when rested on them. They are not locked into the open position, so to close them, I just push them back into the body where they are caught (and held closed) by a latch(?) in the assembly.

It is worth noting that some owners replace original foot pedals for the comfort of their passenger.

So, your inability to close them (especially on both sides) means they've been tampered with or the latches are both broke - which seems to go against a known failure rate.

Some folks just don't have the aptitude for things mechanical - even simple oil changes. I'm giving the fellow a pass.

My family limits its time outdoors to brisk walks. I've noticed more and more people on these walks since the isolation started. I asked a policeman hanging a park-closed sign if I was legal, and he said, "as long as you keep moving." I do rev up my scooter once a week and circle the block. And this is in southern California. My problem is with the numbers ... I watch them on the news ... and check my zip code for the coronavirus count. Since that number is growing, so is my level of precaution for the outdoors.

According to the Chicago Tribune:
  • State Farm, a mutual insurer owned by its policyholders, will give customers a $2 billion rebate. Most policyholders will get a 25% credit for the weeks between March 30 and May 31, the Bloomington-based insurer said. State Farm said the percentage awarded will vary by state.

Geico will give back about $2.5 billion to its auto and motorcycle customers. The company will issue a 15% credit as those policies come up for renewal between April 8 and Oct. 7. The credit also applies to new policies purchased with Geico during that time period.

Progressive Insurance will offer its personal auto policyholders a 20% credit for their April and May premiums, totaling about $1 billion. Customers can expect those credits to be automatically applied to their accounts in May and June.

Allstate will return about $600 million to its customers, which most policyholders will get back in the form of a roughly 15% credit on their premiums in April and May. Customers will receive the rebate through a credit to their bank account, credit card or on their Allstate account.

USAA, a member-owned association will return $520 million to its members. Policyholders will receive a 20% credit on two months of premiums.

Liberty Mutual will return about $250 million to personal auto insurance customers in the form of a 15% refund on two months of their annual premiums. The refunds will begin in April.

American Family Insurance will return about $200 million to policyholders. The insurer will return $50 for each vehicle insured.

The Hartford, which has an exclusive agreement with AARP to sell auto and home insurance products to its members, will give back about $50 million to auto customers in the next couple of months. Most customers will receive a 15% refund on their April and May premiums.

Farmers Insurance and its 21st Century Insurance said customers will receive a 25% reduction in April premiums.

Nationwide will offer a one-time premium refund of $50 for each each insured vehicle. Customers will receive a refund in the next 30 days to their most recent method of payment.

Travelers will give its auto insurance customers a 15% credit on their April and may premiums.

The Hanover Insurance Group will return 15% of April and May auto premiums to customers, totaling about $30 million in refunds.

MetLife will give its customers a 15% credit for April and May premiums.

Kymco Like 200i - errands, neighborhood only, less-traveled paths, and whenever I need to change my attitude (I work from home). I have owned Scooter Libby for 7 months and still haven't reached the 600 mile maintenance.

General Discussion / Re: How are you responding to the Virus?

I try to walk daily (Southern California) around the perimeter of a public park. The gates to the park are locked, the playground is shut down with yellow tape, but we can still we can access the loop and grassy areas. Today, I wore shorts, shirt, shoes and socks (no mask). As I exited the park, I noticed a local police officer securing a flyer to a lamppost. The flyer was in Spanish, but it clearly warned folks not to enter and to follow common sense rules. I asked the officer if I was okay. He said, "yes, as long as you keep moving." So, mask is not required, keep your distance, and keep moving.

During my lunch, a local news story reported citations for a group of people in a public park gathered to watch the sunset. It turns out the neighbors called 211 to report them as Stay-At-Home violators.
