lovin' that Ninja! Hope your weather gets better.

Thanks, temps are back in the 60s and sunny! Coming from dual sports and scooters I do love the 350+ fuel range of the Ninjette.

General Discussion / Thinking about a KYMCO
« on: March 15, 2022, 12:09:10 AM »
Hi,
It's been a year since I sold my Agility 125 to a new rider and am now thinking of getting a small motorcycle for some friends to learn on and borrow for testing. How durable a platform is the K-Pipe? I found the gy6 to be about as bullet-proof as a Briggs mower but am looking for something light with less plastic to break and scratch than a scooter. I would rather get a KP-mini 150 but options are slim in the used market. I've found 2020 K-pipes for 1000-1500 on marketplace and (with gas prices as they are) wouldn't mind riding it to work.

On a side note the weather has been a bit tipsy this past week. Temp went from 69-21 degrees in 7 hrs. Perfect conditions to try out my new Michelin rain tires.

With the miles you ride that is probably a smart move. How do you like the Suzuki so far?

Well, the 650 single has lets say some personality. The manual requires the head bolts to be torqued every 1,500 or every oil change due to vibration:) I love the simplicity in the old design and am converting it to a scrambler layout as I grew up on dual sports and can't stand not being able to get off the seat when crossing rail tracks or rough spots on the local lumber roads.

I'm was riding my Agility 125 14'000 miles per year but sold it to a new rider and now ride a 2013 Suzuki s40 to work. Afraid I have to say good bye to Kymco for a while, until I up and buy a DT300 that is.

Congrats on going through with it. Must admit, I quit on my first tire change on the Agility when I couldn't get the bead set. The local shop was kind enough to blast set it for free. Ive done enough tire changes now that Ive found a fairly quick system that works for me.

What an OD?

I was referring t my odometer or mileage indicator. Sorry about the unclear acronym.

I know I am not supposed to be critical of the south, but here goes-----yesterday morning, Chatanooga, on scooter, new constrution MLK blvd to Hwy 27 S, to Hy 24, My case to 75 N-----Freeway, entrance, curved---has deep rain grooves=real thrill for 2 wheeler, outright dangerous----I assume this project has state ,Federal   and local funds.   Plan should have been reviewed at every level (shouldn't roads be built/designed to a standard?)  I am retired DOD  Safety  Manager/Director who reviewed plans for roads/construction----one time inspector and final approver for new Ammo Storage in Germany.  Standards had to be maintained.    Wonder who signed off final on this road??

As bike rider, one must constantly be on alert here unless you like going down.   New Construction should not have built in hazards.  ...using my tax money!

I know I'm a bit late on this one but welcome to the infamous ever under construct 24 split. I used to live off the first exit on 24 and they've been working on it for almost 5 years now. It originally was 1 lane merging onto 24 west and the traffic would stop for miles every afternoon. When its finished it should be quite an improvement. The split was flat until they built the massive embankments for the new overpasses. Whenever the cities or counties repave the roads here they cut those aforementioned grooves parallel to the road in the old paving and often they have a weave to them. I've learned to ride them really loosely and let the bike move as it wants. Still a major hazard.

good to see you posting again, TBR! It seems you took an extended break?

Im trying to get back. I'm working nights at an iron foundry which at 80hrs has consumed much of my time. Been a rough year for many it seems.

How many km's are on your scoot? How many do you expect?

My first OD failed at just over 42,000km. I've now got 18,460 so 60,000km total. My scoot is like the axe that only had the handle changed 4 times and the head twice. It will pretty much run indefinitely depending on what all I put into it. I'm looking into a top end rebuild soon as I want to upgrade the valve train and cylinder and now that its getting well worn now is the time.

@TBR125,
just came across your tread and pics, well done.
Thanks alot.

Glad it helped. I've recently stepped up the challenge to changing my corolla tires. Need to find a semi-truck to break the bead though:)

I put 19,000km on the Agility's clock during 2020. Now that my job commute has doubled to a 43 mile round trip I expect to put 25-28,000 km this year. Still running strong and has never failed to get me where I'm going.

Downtown 300 / Re: rolling

It rarely occurs but an issue that happened once with similar results is if the 39mm thin clutch nut loosens inside the variator, the belt pulley unit will drag against the clutch bell. As mentioned in a previous post, the wheel should turn with no rotational input to rear pulley and belt. The clutch bell should spin with the wheel.
