General Discussion / Re: National HOT DOG DAY!
« on: July 20, 2022, 06:55:04 PM »
Every day should be national hot dog day!  I keep several packages of Eisenberg's kosher all beef hot dogs in the freezer, and have eaten hot dogs all across the country.  My Garmin had a POI program I added that had hot dog joints around the country, and while we were traveling, every time the Garmin would ding to indicate a hot dog joint was coming up, we'd stop.  Drove my wife crazy, but I had some great dogs from Pink's in Los Angeles to Rutt's Hots in NJ.  Unfortunately, I can't add POI programs my nav system in my current car.

Hooray for hot dogs.  I think I'll go grill one right now!

I tried Cleveland Moto, they didn't have the Givi windscreen or installation kit for it.  I did however score the luxury seat for the Grand Vista there.  Way more comfortable than stock seat.  It was there last one, probably had it there for years since they wouldn't ship it, pick up only.

I have the captain's seat on my scoot.  Yep, it is more comfortable than the stock seat.  When I bought my GV from Cleveland Moto back in 2020, it was pictured with the captain's seat.  When I went in to look at the scoot, they had switched out the seat to the stock.  I asked them where the pictured seat was, and they hemmed and hawed, and said they would switch it back "at no cost."  I told them, right, at no cost, because you advertised the scoot with the better seat.  That's the only issue I've had with them.  Other than that, they are great to work with, and the service manager knows his stuff.  Good luck looking for the bracket.  You might want to talk to the service manager - I think his name is James - and see if he has some suggestions.

I live in the US and have only been able to find it online on sites that won't deliver to US.  It is the installation kit to attach this windshield to scooter:  https://giviusa.com/products/290dt-screen-blade?_pos=1&_sid=512afeb1c&_ss=r  .

Not sure if this is what you're looking for:

Good luck!  I have a Givi screen on my GV 250.  It was installed by my dealer in Cleveland - Cleveland MOTO.  Phone number is 216-795-5580.  Maybe they have an installation kit in stock.

Hawk - I've used it a couple of times.  The weather has been really wet and crappy for the past week or so, so not too much riding.  On the couple of rides I've used it, once was in broad daylight and the other just as it was getting dark.  In broad daylight, I used the brake free light in stealth mode, so it lit up just as I was slowing down.  When it was just getting dark, I used it in the full on mode (not flashing), and someone riding behind me thought that I certainly could be seen by anyone in back of me.  I'm really pleased with the quality of the unit, and how easy it was to mount on my HJC helmet.  The installation video that Brake Free Tech recommends you watch before mounting the unit to the helmet helped a great deal.  All in all, I'm extremely satisfied.  My wife, who watched me pull out of my driveway, said she could see the brake light up when I slowed down before pulling onto the street.  And that in bright daylight with her being about 70 feet away.

I'll post more thoughts and hopefully pics and a video once the weather clears up.  Speaking of which, it's pouring a thundering right now.  We're supposed to have a break in the weather on Thursday, and then more rain on Friday and Saturday, with skies finally turning clear on Sunday and through next week.  I wish there were some way to send all this frigging rain out west where they really, really need it.

General Discussion / Re: No mirrors?
« on: July 09, 2021, 07:12:33 PM »
Jak 51- I see bicyclist all the time with a little tiny mirror mounted to there helmet . I thought it was a requirement for licensed vehicles to have a mirror?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of adult bicyclists out there who don't wear helmets.  In my city, bicycle helmets are required for kids, but not adults.  I occasionally see the helmet mounted mirrors, but not often enough.  My wife and I ride our bikes around our neighborhood and we wear helmets, but don't have mirrors.  We'll probably rethink that.  I thought licensed vehicles needed mirrors also, so how can someone get away with removing them from their scoots?  I remember my first motorbike, a Honda 50 step through, had mirrors, and some of the mopeds that were popular in the 60's, while not requiring registration or plates, did come with mirrors.  And I remember thinking how cool I felt putting a mirror on the handlebar of my first "big boy" bicycle.  I think it was either a Huffy or Schwinn.  During college, I rode a ten-speed to school when I lived off campus, and I put a mirror on that bike as well.  But back then, there was no such thing as a bicycle helmet!

People riding bicycles don't have mirrors, even if they use their bikes to commute, or ride on major streets.  But I think any motorized vehicle, whether a moped or a 1500cc tourer, should have safety equipment standards, including mirrors.  IMHO, if the vehicle has to be registered and the rider/driver has to be licensed to operate the vehicle, for the safety of that person, and other riders on the road, mirrors should be a requirement.

General Discussion / Re: I'm TSA "Compliant"!
« on: July 08, 2021, 10:24:23 AM »
TSA compliant means that your driver's license is accepted as valid identification by TSA agents when you go through the security checkpoint at an airport for domestic flights.  Stig, you should know better.  In Ohio, we have the BMV, not DMV.  Anyway, I got my TSA compliant license in Ohio back in  late 2018 when they first started being offered.  Had to take my passport, social security card, certified birth certificate, and a couple of other pieces of documentation when I renewed my license back then.  I was issued a piece of paper to carry with my old license since all the paperwork for the compliant license had to go to Columbus (Ohio's state capital) for processing.  I got my TSA compliant license - with its special logo - about ten days later.  I've used it several times while flying, and it does beat having to carry my passport when going through security.  The compliant license cannot be used when crossing borders, and cannot be used on international flights.

Now to totally confuse things, what the heck is this?

https://www.summerrshop.com/products/4-wheel-scooter

Notice in the video as the scoot is going around columns, it looks like the first scoot has a single front wheel.

please do post a video or pics..I'd love to see what it looks like on our helmets! It sure does make sense, though, doesn't it? Having a bright led brake light on our helmets at driver eye level sure seems like the right place.

(my wife doesn't like my riding hobby and will in no way participate with anything riding related...including taking pics or video)

Will do.  My wife is pretty good taking pics and videos with her phone.  We'll see what we can come up with this weekend.

Happy 4th of July to all!

Yippee!  I got my Brake Free Light delivered yesterday, and I'm impressed.  Fits perfectly on my HJC helmet.  The unit was easy to install after I watched the installation video on the BF website.  Also read the FAQ section and gained a better understanding of how the unit works, and all the details about the Brake Free Light system, since a detailed user manual is not included in the package.  It only comes with a Quick Start Guide.  Followed the instructions, used the included template, charged the unit, and played with the different modes.  It works as advertised - when the accelerometer/gyrometer senses the slightest slow down, the brake light activates.  My wife is anxious to drive behind me and watch it in action.

I'll post some pics and a video once I have had a chance to play with it some more.  But I'm hoping that my first impressions will last.

So the latest in the traveling road show is that now FedEx shows a status of my package being received in Perrysburg OH, near Toledo.  Next stop should be Highland Heights, OH. the local FedEx facility near me.  I also got an email from Scott in Brake Free Light customer support, and here's the quote:

"Sorry about the weird tracking system. I would trust the FedEx tracking number. On our end it looks like something went really wrong with the tracking on the package. It shows it bouncing all over North America. Hopefully it actually arrives tomorrow."

Well, at least I can say with confidence that my package is still somewhere on this planet, and maybe even this continent...

Brake Free Light is supposed to be delivered tomorrow (Wednesday, 6/30) via FedEx.  No status updates available on the FedEx tracking website, however.  The package hasn't been scanned since it arrived at a FedEx facility in Bloomington, CA last Thursday evening.  This morning, a FedEx customer service rep couldn't tell me anything more about where my package is then what I could already see on their website.  Here's hoping it will actually show up tomorrow.

General Discussion / Re: Do Dealerships Ever Answer Emails?
« on: June 24, 2021, 09:44:22 AM »
I've always found a phone call works better than an email inquiry. This has been the case for about, well, forever.  Not sure why, but phone calls work, where emails don't.  And another good thing about a phone call is that you can ask the parts guy if there are alternatives if the shop doesn't have the exact part in stock.

Make sure the battery is fully charged, and that the side stand is up.  Is the tank full?
