Xciting 500 / Re: NEED X500 CARBURETOR!!!
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:50:54 PM »
Thanks for the suggestions Zombie, but I was unable to find anything that was a good match.  The most promising cheap carburetor I found was a chinese copy of the 42mm carb from a Polaris 500cc ATV.  I'm sure I could have made that work, but it did not have provisions for the TPS, electric choke or bowl heater, so it would never be right.  I am tired of spending time looking, so I broke down and spent the $372 for a new one last night.  Out of the several online outlets for Kymco parts, Stadium Yamaha was the cheapest total price (part+shipping).

I am still thinking about that 42mm china carb.  It would be an interesting experiment to see if that could be a cheap performance upgrade.  I would have to test how the X500's ECM tolerates running without the electronic do-dads in the OEM carb. Or perhaps a TPS and electric choke could be adapted onto it.  This sounds like a project for someday after I have the "right" carb as a backup!

Pulled the carb off last night, the output side measures 36mm ID.  It appears to be a variant of the CVK36, but I have not found any other CVK36 carbs with electric choke.  So far striking out on ebay and internet searches, I may have to suck it up and spring the $350 for a new OEM carb.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.  I checked out Zombie's link on ebay, there does not seem to be anything large enough there, his largest carb is for a 250 Helix/Elite.
I will pull the carb off tonight and measure.  Also will try to braze it up before I give in and pony up the cash for a new one.

Thanks for all the replies.  Zombie - you said the "right source" has the OEM carb for $100?  That sounds like a winner to me.  Can you tell me where to find that deal?

I need a carburetor for my X500.  Not going to talk about what happened to my old one, let's just say it has seen better days.  Even a junk would work for me, I just need the main body casting.  If you have one, or know someone that does, please let me know!!!

As an alternative, does anyone have experience adapting other carbs to the X500?

Xciting 500 / Re: Could someone point me to a CVT belt

My Gates belt lasted 3,000 miles before it shredded and left me standing on the side of the road.  I have a Malossi in there now, but have not gone far enough to really compare them.

I don't enjoy doing tires, but I do them anyway.  I just HATE paying people to do anything.  Except haircuts.  I do pay for haircuts. Usually.   ;)

I got my rear wheel off/on for a new tire without doing anything under the seat.

grouchysmurf  - I have your '09 OEM windshield off my (then) new 500 Ri.  Used less than 50 miles.  Make me an offer.  I'm in PA.  Just joined the forum myself.  Love my scoot - HATE the seat.  4,000 miles my first year.  Rear tire is GONE!  Buying a Michelin Sport for a $30 premium from my local shop, cause I'm riding on Brillo (without the soap)!
Thank you, but I have already purchased one!

***DO NOT BUY THE GATES BELT!!!***

Yes, I'm the guy who said the Gates belt was fine and it was a great deal etc...
My belt failed today.  It gave me about 5 minutes warning by sounding a little funny, then snap!
The belt had about 3,000 miles on it.
Luckily my bike just coasted to the side of the road.  I have heard stories of the rear wheel locking, causing people to dump it.

This happened about an hour ago, just took a taxi home.  My next step will be to order a KYMCO OEM belt!

If you bought the Gates belt based on my previous advice, please take it off and get the OEM belt.  I got lucky that I didn't get hurt.  You may not be so lucky!

A couple of months ago I found a great buy on Michelin Pilot Sport tires on ebay.  Got both front and rear for $100 total.  I put them on and they feel fine.  If you can find that deal they are definitely worth it.

What does it smell like?  When an engine burns coolant, the exhaust smells like...well...coolant.

39mm is a big nut.  Time to break out the jumbo socket set!

I'm wondering why they put something so large in there?  I worked on numerous 50-500cc scoots and never encountered a fastener that size.

General Discussion / Re: What is weight capacity for 50cc?
« on: May 24, 2011, 03:10:53 AM »
I had a blast with my People 50 and I weigh about 230 pounds.  You're not going to win any races, but it should carry you fine.  I would recommend the people 50 over others because it has much larger wheels than most other scooters, and also is a 2 stroke so it will have more oomph to get moving.
