I'm no expert, and have only been seriously riding two wheelers for not quite a year.  But my take on basic city commuting is that scooters are safer.  I took the MSF course late last summer, then promptly sold my super 8 150 (big mistake) and purchased a 1982 Yamaha 750 Maxim.  Since May, I've been commuting regularly into work with the bike and also with an Agility 150 I picked up.  I've really gone to the Agility as the go-to commuting two wheeler 1)  based on feeling safer in traffic (just don't have to downshift as much) and 2) twice the fuel economy (80mpg vs 40).

I have a 13 mi commute one-way on roads ranging from city stop and go to 4 lane boulevards and from 25mph speed limits to 40mph.  The Agility keeps up with traffic no problem at all and is just as quick off the line.  I feel safer and more in control on the Agility only having to worry about braking with my hands, vs shifting and breaking and clutching.  My big thing was being able to keep up with traffic and space myself between vehicles safely and the Agility lets me do that as much as the bike, so it's a no-brainer.

The only thing that bothers me on the Agility is that the seat sucks and my ass is sore after 7 minutes or so.

$1800

Super 8 150cc green Kymco scooter. 2440 miles.  GREAT condition.   I've moved on up to a motorcycle so this must go. This mo-sheen looks more like a crotch rocket than a scooter. This thing will do 60+mph and gets between 60-70 miles per gallon. In great shape, nearly flawless with a low, low 2440 miles. I've been using this to communte in to downtown Maidson and it keeps up with traffic. You do need a motorcycle license to operate. Comes with a new disc lock for secutiry + 4 sets of keys. MASSIVE under-seat storage and the plastic bag hook beneath the steering wheel, you'd be amazed how much you can carry. Under the seat fit a full 3/4 helemt. This Kymco is Sooooo nice, too because the odometer and spedometer are in miles and miles per hour which is unusual for Kymco - most of their scooters read in kmh. I can't say enough how much pick up this scooter has and how smooth it drives. Brakes in great shape. It has the larger wheels for a really stable and smooth ride. Clean title, ready to go. Plenty of room for passenger - I regularly take my wife on the back country roads and she is comfortable back there.  Might consider deliver up to 100mi from Madison, WI.

Hey, here's some friendly advice.  This forum is not as active as many and it takes a while sometimes to get a response, but with posts like that, good luck getting any help. That said,  When it happened to me, apparently I had nudged the kill switch to on somehow.  Took me an hour to figure it out.

Agility 50 / Re: Just fell off my Scooter
« on: August 17, 2011, 11:22:23 PM »
I like quote from the guy somewhere on this forum that said "It's not about the ride, it's about the slide".  I'm 48 but paranoid, so when I take my 50 out, even in the heat we've been having, I put on jeans and a light long sleeve shirt and helmet.  My kids laugh at me and I laugh at them for laughing at me, cause I could really give a crap what they or anyone else thinks :).  When I ride my super 8 150 into work, then they really get worked up when I put my riding jacket on on top of everything else :)

Thanks for the picture - now I can show my 16 year old who just got his license that there's no such thing as too careful, even on an Agility 50.  Hope you heal up real quick!

For my Super 8 150, I use a disc lock and I also lock the handlebars.

I'm not experienced by any means, but I've researched a lot of Kymcos and that seems to be a good deal.  Ride it first before buying.

Super 8 150 / Is there a way to adjust the shocks for 2 up riding?
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:09:49 PM »
Me 190.  Da missus 130.  Just went around the block.  Shocks could be stiffer, almost felt like bottomed out on a couple bumps.

Can they be adjusted?

General Discussion / Re: Wind
« on: August 10, 2011, 03:03:08 PM »
On my Super 8 150, I just had an uncomfrtable experience heading into a 20 mph wind yesterday.  It was really blowing me around pretty good.  Was tough to make 50mph, wnen I can normally get to 63mph.  I learned my lesson.  I'll take the lesser mph roads to my destination in the future given the choice with winds like that. Seems to affect the ride less at slower speeds.

Super 8 150 / Re: Which Gas do you use for kymco s8!!!
« on: August 08, 2011, 11:04:45 PM »
Regular, 87 octane.  It runs just fine on it so why spend extra $ on premium?
Maybe it adds up over time, but I don't mind paying the extra $0.25 per fill up. :)
