Hello! I also just bought a black 2007 People S 200 scooter! Mine's got 4200 miles on it, with 7 months left on the two-year warranty. I paid $2200, and I think that I got a great deal! It's got a black GIVI box mounted behind the seat, which fits my full helmet perfectly.
Just to be safe: I always wear riding gloves, I always wear my helmet (I put a tinted windscreen on it), and I wear an open mesh biker jacket with padding on the forearms, elbows and shoulders. The jacket has a waterproof liner that can be worn in case of rain (which hardly ever happens in Phoenix, except for the overnight monsoon storms in July-August.) I also bought a scooter cover that I put over it when I park it at work, to keep it out of the sun and any dust. At night, it's parked in my garage.
I've changed the engine oil and gear oil (using synthetic for both), cleaned the air filter, and gave it a thorough wash and wax.
I read that if you don't ride it often, you might need to plug the battery into a trickle charger. I found the best price at WalMart ($19 for a 1.5 Amp Schumacher Battery Maintainer) and have set up an easy way to trickle-charge the battery: I hooked up the wiring to the battery posts, and ran the wiring from the battery compartment up through the compartment under the seat. Now I just pop the seat open and can pull out the quick-connect plug to hook up to the charger.
I'm considering putting a strong magnet under the bike, to help trigger the left turn signal at stop lights (if no other vehicles are turning left, sensors in the road might not detect the scooter, which would prevent the left turn signal from activating). I've checked out a number of web-sites where these are sold. The best price appears to be for the "Green Light Trigger" for around $13. Some sites claim that theirs is better, for $20 to $40! But a $5 rare-earth magnet might be the most cost-effective and might work fine.
I've been riding the scooter to work almost every day for the last two weeks, and I love it (although it's gotten up to 106 degrees outside)! I'm told that I'll love it even more when the weather cools off in a few months.
I've filled the tank (premium gas) three times so far, for $4-5 each fill-up. So far, I've put about 200 miles on it. I take the side streets (no highways), where the speed limit averages 40 to 45 mph. But keeping up with traffic has allowed me to go 50-55 mph at times. The scooter has plently of pick-up and it wants to go faster, but I would need to take it on the highway to see what my top speed might be. I've read that the odometers aren't accurate on scooters, and that it probably registers 4-5 miles faster than it's really going. I'll check that out with a local police radar set up nearby (it displays your speed as your drive past it).
So far, it's been a great scooter. I've gotten lots of looks and complements on the bike. My wife and I both want to ride it to work, so I may just have to buy another one!
