Grandvista 250 / Re: Shredded Belt
« on: June 04, 2013, 02:25:53 AM »
All the standard Kymco parts.
Hi Friend-I replaced my oem belt at 11k out of an abundance of caution. My GV is also a 2009 model. All of my riding is on a US 2 lane hwy, running a gps indicated 60-65 mph. I did replace mine last summer,so it was a year younger than yours, but it was in very good shape,if slightly more narrow.  I have it and the sliders set aside as spares, just in case, they looked so good. The new belt/sliders are also oem.  It may be improper to draw conclusions based on your and my experience, but it nonetheless seems to me that maybe yours had indeed "dried" out more than mine did before needing replacement.   My new one won't go so long without needing replacement. I'm the second owner of mine-it had 3k on it then-2011. Today it has 14,500..I use my GV whenever weather permits, I just enjoy it.  I'm glad you had the spare on hand!!

Since my last post.I've had a Shinko and worn it out too-5k miles.   I have found a dual compound Michelin Pilot Pure SC and will try that one as soon as it arrives in the mail. The harder compound is in the middle, where my riding style needs it. Most of my rides are on a two lane blacktop at highway speeds, lots of flat and straightaway riding. The Shinko on the rear now was new just before Thanksgiving 2012. Seems every 6 months I have to replace a tire.  Seems ridiculous, and it's a pain to deal with so often. I live in the boonies, and my scooter shop is 90 miles away.

Just as a footnote, if anyone is interested.

I just replaced the shield on my wife's Grandvista with the Givi screen and she loves the difference. Says it makes her ride much more comfortable. So for us it was a good choice.

I have had the Givi on my GV for two years-I did have to drill a tiny hole at the end of a crack on each of the horizontal mounts to stop the crack. Tropical Storm Debby blew the bike off of it's center stand onto my motorhome and cracked the windscreen. Just under 10k miles, and no troubles from the Givi,or the bike.

Holy crap!  Am I the only person here that thinks maybe MORE than 8500 rpm might be a tad excessive? :o  It's not a 2 stroke-maybe a larger engined bike would be more suitable for your use.

Is that seat any taller than the stock-or further back? I'm 5'10 and the stock seat makes me feel like my knees are up around my ears....if the touring seat is a bit better padded and a tad taller, I'll have to have one!

I now have 2000 miles on the Kenda rear tire, and been caught several times in the rain, light misty to full on frog strangler. It's not showing any wear, and I am quite happy with the roadholding.  :)

Zombie is right, but it's a battle with yourself-the natural inclination is to hold the bars as tightly as possible-and that IS exactly the wrong thing to do...as I said,I just try to relax...

I try to relax,I don't find the wind by itself to be too much of a problem, but there is a several mile long bridge near where I live, that has rain grooves cut into it in the direction of travel :o   I can deal with wind okay,or the grooves okay, but the two  together is butt pucker time!   I avoid that bridge like the plague. My Harley riding friends say it's hard on them too...

Hi Sarah-mine also grew reluctant to pop open, and here is what helps.  Turn the key to the unlock position after the ignition has been on,and put a little lube on the latch.  That teeny bit of lube made all the difference. Good luck! :D
PS-the position all the way to the left will lock the forks,if you have them turned to the farthest left you can steer them..

Thanks for the thoughts on the Kenda-there's been no rain since the installation, and it seems good at highway speed in the dry. It does have grooves that wrap around onto the sidewalls, but I'll be extra cautious when on wet streets until I suss out the traction.

Yahooie,I have been disappointed with Michelins on my motorhome-I have Coopers on it now,and am deliriously happy with them-and they are American made too. My scooter shop put a Kendra rear tire on my GV today-3/14/12 with 6100 miles on the bike. It's supposedly a harder compound and better wearing. I'll keep everyone posted.  Here in NW Florida,we get cloudbursts brought on by the seabreeze. The tire has some deep grooves,I'll let you all know how it performs in the wet too.

Grandvista 250 / Tire recommendations for GV?
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:27:19 PM »
Hi folks-It's time for a new rear tire for sure-and as it's 09 model,I'll also replace the front. bike has 6100 miles on it. Does anyone have recommendations as to brand/model?   I weigh 220,and most of my riding is in the 60 mph range (67 indicated). I live in the boonies, and on a US 2 lane hwy,so most trips are 80 miles or so. Thanks!!
